This game is nuts lol.

Unfortunately there's obvious anti-right/pro-market mechanics that favor a massive welfare state. My dreams of creating a free market monarchy goes up in smoke as the effects of my actions better resemble what Leftist professors think the consequences of a free market will be rather than what actually tends to happen.

One-liners don't match actual policy decisions, and there's often false dichotomies in many Issues that force me to make stupid decisions (rather than the freedom to make no decision at all) and therefore I'd rather reject the issue than to choose one out of many bad ideas.

Unfortunately most of the consequences of our decisions are not as we expect

And so I've taken to just answering what makes sense in principle (or the real world) and seeing what happens. I remember playing this a lot more when I was younger (it helps to have a white screen to blind my eyes with as a way of waking myself up in the morning). Now I'm just curious what kind of country I'll develop since I've taken a political 180 since I began as a teenager.

Amusingly though I am (at least in theory) a Japanese-ish monarchy based somewhere in the Russian Federation--presumably an autonomous region. In real life this would only make sense if either Japan had been conquered by Russia in WWII or Japan (for some reason) attached itself to Russia in more recent times and then pioneers from Japan settled the Russian Far East and somehow forged a new country with permission to do so and remain a member state of the Russian Federation.
