If Middle Earth has been in danger in this past update, we extend our thanks to our friends that had a watchful eye on our region and helped with keeping up the endorsement count for our delegate!
Feel free to contact me so I know to whom we direct our thanks.
(I think it was also Christmas on that hitlist, so double kudos!)

As for things to do besides the whole raiding game, we do have a new more innocent wave or arrivals, so hello to all of you that joined prior! And, obviously, hello to all that decide to stay; feel free to interact on our regional message board; if you have any good in-theme quotes or short stories please post them as I take a note and might put them up in the World Factbook Entry of our region.

Please rest and relax, and take a look at all of the Tolkien-related resources on the region's page.

Feel free to telegram me if you have any questions about our region - I will try to answer them or direct you to someone who can.

Greeting to all folks across Arda,

The season is upon us, and as in years past, October 31 will bring another assault by
the Necromancer upon our fair lands. This yearly event is called "Z-Day" by some - it is
when the restless dead arise, and assault the living. The Necromancer is gathering a great
army of undead with foul witchcraft. It shall be defeated if we cooperate to defend the
region of Middle Earth from this rising menace.

The assault typically lasts between a day and 36 hours - on Halloween day. Nations can either do
nothing, relying upon their neighbors to defend the region of Middle Earth, or, with will of
iron and steadfast resolve, they can take an active role in throwing back this menace - defending
all we hold dear. Anyone can do the former - you will find your nation very nearly unchanged
afterwards. However, those with the bravery to choose the later will set their wisest peoples to
research a cure for the curse of undeath, and then spread that cure over their neighbors within
Middle Earth - with missiles. Yes, you launch these "cure missiles" to lovingly strike fellow
nations in Middle Earth, releasing the cure and restoring a percentage of the undead into normal
living beings once more. One sets one's nation to research the cure at the very start of the assault
by the undead (the earlier the better). These Cure Missiles must be launched interactively however.
The best case is if the leaders of a nation are available for many hours of the assault - but even
a short period of activity helps Middle Earth greatly. Note that Middle Earth - as a region - is
opposed to the Necromancer and their undead horde. Thus, we kindly request that any residents who
wish to aid the horde do so from within a different region. More information will be made
available as October 31 draws further nigh.

This year, those brave souls who rise to the occasion and stand bravely at the vanguard of the
defenses - giving their time and resources to help safeguard all of us - will receive a special
badge to acknowledge their contribution to the region. The Badge of the Barrow-Wight Slayer of 2020
shall be granted to all nations of Middle Earth who launch at least one Cure Missile, and also do
not attack others with undead hordes. This badge can be displayed by a nation in two ways. First,
a regional dispatch will list those valiant members who participated, how many barrow-wights they
cured, and officially grant them this badge and the right to display it. The dispatch will be
signed by the relevant regional officers, and be permanently publicly displayed on the region's
page. Secondly, an actual image of this badge will be provided to nations so awarded, so that they
may display it on their flag or on custom national banners.

Thus, many years from now when the younger nations of Middle Earth ask "Where were you on Z-Day 2020?",
you can proudly point to this badge, proclaiming "I was on the front lines, defending all of Middle Earth
from the foul Necromancer's army of undead! Indeed, nations that shall survive this day, and see old age,
will yearly on the vigil entertain their neighbors, and say 'Tomorrow is Z-Day anniversary.'
Then will strip their sleeve and show their scars, and say 'These wounds I had on Z-Day 2020.'
The old forget: yet all shall be forgot, but the peoples of Middle Earth will remember what feats
were done upon that day. Then shall names of those nations who stood to defend Middle Earth be
familiar to all as household words, and be in their flowing cups freshly remembered.

This story shall the good nation teach the younger; And Z-Day shall never go by, from this time to
the ending of the world, but we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!
For the nations that shed their blood with one another to hold the line shall be as brothers - be
they newly founded or founder of Middle Earth, this day forward shall noble be their condition,
and gentlefolk then at home a-bed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their
nationhoods cheap whiles any speaks that fought with us upon 2020's Z-Day !

I, personally, am looking forward to this Z-Day event. I wonder if it'll have something to do with the current pandemic as well.

Either way, it's still a short while until that time, but awareness for the event is more than welcomed.

Middle Earth has a fair number of high-population nations and many new nations and thus I am not 100% certain, but I believe that the fight against the dark forces also has something to do with your nation having more population? ie, you can cure more people if you have a higher population but you also fall easier as prey to the zombies? Or population has nothing to do with it?

Thanks!

I think population plays a large role. I recall that, last year, the very old nations in my other region were able to spread the zombies with ease, while us younger nations were basically helpless against their onslaught :P

What about N-Day? I believe that's coming first, but might be wrong...

Is N-Day another variant of Z-Day, but on an other day? All of these one-letter days! ...

Tatarica wrote:Is N-Day another variant of Z-Day, but on an other day? All of these one-letter days! ...

I agree, it is confusing. N-Day is the one with nukes. Regions can either form their own factions or join another, then build and launch nukes at other regional factions, while building shields to block incoming ones.

I, personally, like that one more than the zombie one. But, that's just my preference. I think I like it because it involves lots of interaction with the the wider community, whereas Z-Day is more internally focused within regions.

That one sounds like dangerous fun as well!

After sitting in this region for a few years, I notice that there is no founder nation... That means it is a game created region (GCR) like the feeder and sinker regions and the GCR warzones?

Would Middle Earth cease if there are no nations residing here during an update?

This region has been created in antiquity, right with the other regions of the game that were created in the first 6 months since the game launched.

This is somewhat natural, considering that at that time the Lord of the Rings movies just came out and many were hyped.

During that time there was no concept of "founder"; later on, it was offered by the game administrators, and many such ancient regions took advantage of the offer and installed a founder. However, there have been some regions that wanted to preserve that historic status and remained founderless; Middle Earth is one of that select few.

To directly answer your question, Grrorg the Orc, Middle Earth is NOT a game-created region, it was created by a player around the time when the game first launched and there was no concept of Founder (it was added around one year later, I believe).

Obviously, any region is to cease to exist at update intervals (each 12 hours roughly) if there are no nations residing in it; although that does raise an interesting question - would also game created regions cease to exist? Hard to check, since most of those are highly populated and most likely never going to be devoid of nations.

Or as i would put it.. Eldest, that's what we are...Middle Earth remembers the first raindrop and the first acorn...we knew the dark under the stars when it was fearless — before the Dark Lord came from Outside..

Tatarica, thank you. After reading your answer I realize that I have heard that (maybe even asked that myself) before.

Before I came to ask this question here yesterday, I was told that GCR won't cease. (I was also wondering). It is programmed like that. There are game created 'warzones' that are much less populated. Even those are permanently integrated and will not disappear even if abandoned.

Hi Daddy : /

Oops, I have clicked on a recruitment telegram and accidentally moved out of our region. Should be careful of any clicky buttons in telegrams, NationStates does not offer a "Are you sure you want to do this?" prompt.

I do remember reading in the books that Morgoth will, at one point in time, escape from the Void.

I just didn't think that it would happen because of NationStates :p

2020 seems like a good year for Morgoth's return.

I'm pretty sure it was 2016 - at least in the US.

“We impose order on the chaos of faction evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it.”
- The Stalker when asked the purpose of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

The non-aggression pact, the shameless megafaction, the backroom agreement, these are the tools of cowards and weaklings. True glory rests in the hands of those who succeed on their own merits. Strength is the only currency accepted by The Atom, and only the strong will prosper on N-Day. The Horsemen of the Apocalypse are the greatest faction in N-Day history, that is a simple fact, the highest score ever, the highest faction population ever, the most nukes ever, the most shields ever, the only faction to ever finish at #1 with no radiation, our accolades are limitless, our abilities are peerless. You all know who we are, and you know what we're about. If you wish to free yourself from the shackles placed upon you by bickering cowards and sycophants then seek us out. The ability to choose what is destroyed, when, and in what manner is the exclusive prerogative of the powerful, following the weak will only lead to you being counted among the vanquished.

RP aside, we dominated last N-day, claiming the top 10 faction ranks in the name of the Apocalypse, and we're going to win again this time even if it requires us to actually try a little. If you want to be in the #1 faction then join us, accept no substitutes.

If you want to flex on all the other nerds that play this game join our Discord now and join our faction.

It's time my friends, The Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride once again.

Hell, Underworld, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, St Abbaddon, and bringers of the apocalypse ride again!

For those who haven't ridden with us before and for those of us in need of a refresher please read over the NS News dispatch here; page=dispatch/id=874170

Simple Version.
1. Join faction to start building production
2. Spend Production on missiles or shields
3. Use missile to strike foes for points, use shields to stop incoming missiles
4. Read ^ dispatch, V read the Plan.
5. Be on the Discord! >>> LinkHERE! <<<

The Plan
We show no mercy. Join us and you will be free to attack whomever you wish, we have only targets and make no non-aggression pacts.

Join us on the discord for organization hits, or pick your own targets on your own.

Stick to your specialty, if you're military build nukes, if you're strategic build shields. If you're economic do whatever you please. Whatever your specialization be ready to fight at the start, who knows how many losers from last year will try and fail to get revenge on us early.

Hail to the Riders of the Apocalypse, for we are the leaders of the Horsemen, follow us into oblivion and glory.

Like last time we work from the shadows again. We don't start fights or hit randomly, we won't draw blood, we will slaughter them all at once. We will focus on small or inactive groups. We will avoid taking strikes and create truces.

Best way to avoid becoming a repeated target will be to keep our defense strong, if they can't land a strike on us, and we don't attack them, they will move on. While we'll focus on earning points.

I wanna encourage folks to have a 40% offense, 60% defense slant on production. Particularly at the start of the game and while people are more active. At the start we will see a lot of attacks coming in from everywhere, so have your defenses ready. Remember it is better to stop the first attack to discourage future attacks, strikes only get easier later on.

All of this will be organized through our discord.

Altmoras is the Lord of War, leader of the Horsemen, follow his orders.

FAQ
How many nations to use?

Short answer, as many as you can manage, and in relationship to the time you plan to put in.

Everyone should use at least one nation, if you plan to put in the time and effort use a few more. Remember you build resource/"production" only when the nation is in the Faction. Allowing you to buy shields and missiles, more nations means more you can build up, have one nation just for defense, one for missiles, etc.

However more nations also means more targets for our foes to target! So you gotta pull the weight of the nations you use. Lots of inactive targets is bad, what we want is the right amount of active folks making best use of the max production they can handle.

Does this affect my nations stats??

No! There are no long term repercussions.

History of the Horsemen
N-Day I: We made it into 30th for top strike, our offense was on point. However we didn't have nearly enough defense, we also attacked indiscriminately, started fights, and got mass attacked by everyone in return.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, and bringers of the apocalypse.

N-Day II: We made it into 12th place with 12,606 strikes, and only taking 5,827 hits.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, and bringers of the apocalypse.

N-Day III: We rocked the house taking 2nd place thanks to the tireless work of Altmoras, with 67,539 strikes, and only taking a mere 39 hits.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, Citadel of Ricks, and bringers of the apocalypse.

N-Day IV: We won. We came in 1st. 332,564 strikes and not a single hit landed on us. We are the Kings of the Apocalypse!! Great work to all involved, special thanks to organizer and leader of the Horsemen Altmoras!
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, Citadel of Ricks, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, St Abbaddon, and bringers of the apocalypse.

N-Day V: We took on all of NationStates. For the first 13 glorious hours of N day we rage war on all of NS. No alliances and no mercy was shown, pure slaughter and destruction followed. Eventually in the 13th hour, all of NS united against the Horsemen and finally overwhelmed us nuking us into oblivion. Ending with a score of -643,469. The remaining faction fed on our faction's corpse.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Glass Gallows, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, St Abbaddon, and bringers of the apocalypse.

N-Day VI: We joined with the Crabs and became Crabs of the Apocalypse! Two of the most powerful factions joined as one left no chance for anyone else. First 12hours Crabs of the Apocalypse had a non-aggression pact with The Potato Alliance, and the two removed weaker factions of the board. Upon ending the non-aggression pact, TPA was destroyed, and the rest of NS shortly followed. Crabs of the Apocalypse dominated so completely all ten of top faction spots were claimed in the Crabs of the Apocalypse. Final score was an absurd 1,287,974.

Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, Blackstar, St Abbaddon, and bringers of the apocalypse.
N-Day 7 News Report

N-Day VIII: Horsemen of the Apocalypse once again claim the crown. Scoring a record breaking 1,652,905 score. Making the 4th N-day we’ve won, more than any other faction. First several hours the major factions built up farming smaller faction, until Potato Alliance and Cosmic Corsairs attacked Anime Nations Against Liberals (ANAL). Once the dust settled, Horsemen came in and cleaned house on Potato Alliance. ANAL and Cosmic Corsairs would continue to fist fight throughout the event. Over the course of the event the Horsemen would rain hellfire upon the remaining factions, claiming the top three positions, and largely only factions that had their nations leave the faction after scoring would remain positive.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, St Abbaddon, Atlantis, and bringers of the apocalypse.
N-Day 8 News Report

N-Day IX: Similar to N-day 5, we took on all of NationStates, only to eventually be overrun and destroyed. After the Horsemen were knocked out, did the other factions kill each other to declare themselves the new kings of the apocalypse? No, they kept the peace that the death of the Horsemen brought, it will go down as one of the most peaceful N-days on record. With Kingly Heathens Asserting Neighborliness claiming king victor.
Member Regions: Hell, Underworld, Middle Earth, Hippy Haven, The Order of the Grey Wardens, Lily, St Abbaddon, Atlantis, Lazarus, and bringers of the apocalypse.
N-Day 9 News Report

N-Day X: Horsemen join up with Khan to become Kingly Horsemen Asserting Neighborliness!!
Member regions:: Hell (& Company), Augustin Alliance, FOCUS, Lone Wolves United, United Regions Alliance, The Pacific, The West Pacific, and bringers of the apocalypse.

I'm still slightly lost when it comes to this N-day.

From what I understand - if I want to participate I have to join a faction, else I am not in the event.

So its different from the Z-Day event, where you participate in it even if you want or not;

Dwarven mines, Dwarf, and Iskellian

Yeah, you've got it. Just don't join a faction if you want to sit it out. But anyone can make a faction, so if you don't like the ones you see, you can create your own.

I think it's more chaotic than Z-Day.
