Midland of libertatem in texas yeehaw, if you'd like to submit a diplomacy request, at the moment, I'd suggest disregarding the Secretary of State, seeing as Richard hasn't been active for about a week, and a month before that, and sending a telegram to NewTexas or Studly Penguins.

Actually, I talked to Richard today. He was rather nice. I'm pretty sure Antista is dead now, honestly.

Libertatem it is a remarkable region, considering that struggle for freedom and against all forms of oppression and hatred, as fascism, nazism, socialism and communism. If I'm not mistaken, yours "military operations" are arranged at an interregional treaty called REATO. This region invades and refounds regions controlled by "dictatorial powers" or simply "protects" important places. It is a magnificent ideal, but Texas is a real defender region.

On the other hand our region has embassy with 10000 Islands, and some TITO operations are similar to the REATO. They want to invade The Black Riders, right? For the best of reasons...

So I can say that the request is at least interesting. Anyway I think that any region will be lucky to have embassies in a great region like Texas.

I can't tell if that was dripping with sarcasm or not.

Thank you Patrick for looking into that, but Richard is a busy guy and typically does most of his work behind the scenes so it sometimes can appear that he isn't around but he is :)

Futhermore all diplomacy request must go through him and then brought to the Texas Cabinet for discussion. Thanks again :)

Thank you for clarifying all that Mr. Lt. Gov.! Yes, any speculation on the RMB is merely speculation. As an example, did anyone see Forest or Philosophy 115 coming from out of the blue? We bet not.

And, as for our friends in 10000 Islands, sometimes their peeps get a little over-excited on their RMB and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of senior management. Shoot, sometimes they are not even 10000 Islanders, but merely troublemakers arriving from their enemies to stir up trouble since that is about all they can do to them. We have our doubts about any serious plans about their invading TBR.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note for which Resolution. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Protection of Sapient Rights
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights Strength: Significant Proposed by: Excidium Planetis

Description: The General Assembly,

Applauding the efforts to secure rights for all sapient beings"...

<see page=ga for full text>

Hmm, this was a toughie that seemed to border on metagaming. It appears that the author is trying to guarantee that any rights afforded to humans in your nation also be afforded to all sapient species in your multiverse as well. So, if you have one Tribble (used for example purposes only since we are not exactly sure if they are sentient although, under the definition in this Resolution, they appear to be) in your nation, then all Tribbles are afforded the same protections and rights granted (or restricted) by the World Assembly. This is a bit much as we have many non-human life forms in NewTexas. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last GA vote -- Repeal "Prohibiting Animal Abuse" -- which was passed after gaining 82.84% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 4 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 4 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. As we have been saying for years, Texas is a force in the WA. Many feel that Texas can influence the overall vote if it votes first. There is an observed "lemming effect" that occurs during voting. Apparently a large number of votes are cast based on whichever side of the issue is leading when voters vote. Therefore, to get the most impact from our vote, we are now voting first. We will re-evaluate our original vote at midnight prior to the current vote. As always, we are open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. Comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known in Texas by 11:00pm Tuesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00pm Texas Time on Wednesday the 22nd. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 4847 Votes AGAINST: 1919

Big Tex

PS: Remember, be sure to vote at the World Assembly too!

Human Development Index?

For those unaware the Human Development Index (HDI) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, standards of living, and quality of life for countries worldwide. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welfare. It is used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a developing or an underdeveloped country, and also to measure the impact of economic policies on quality of life.

In real life the countries leading the list (with higher HDI) are generally nations with liberal policies, like as: Australia, United States, Germany, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, France...

Noting some nations with excellent levels of HDI (on the game) I noticed that they all had a lot of government involvement in the economy and high taxes. My question is: Why much government involvement in the economy is good for raising the human development index? I don't know any liberal, libertarian or capitalist nation on the game that with a HDI superior than 80. It is very different from reality.

The same applies to the levels of education, social welfares and defense. The investment should be calculated by the percentage of an efficient economy: 10% of 1,000 is greater than that 100% of 10. I know nations with imploded economy that has excellent levels of intelligence, HDI, defense. How is this possible? How can you do anything without recourse?

The logic of the game indicate that how much larger be the public debt, more stronger will be a government.

Here's something worse than Donald Trump trying to be president: What about Donald Trump vs Charlie Sheen?

Honestly I do not know very well the US policy, but generally I prefer that the Republican candidates win the elections. After September 11th the United States has defended, they invaded two countries and showed the world its military power. With the Democrats we are watching with his hands tied the terrorism of the Islamic State. The conservative policy of the Republicans is not always the prettiest to appear in a TV report, but is sometimes necessary.

About Donald Trump, I like the idea of an entrepreneur take over the government of a country, because he more than anyone knows what is needed to keep the economy stable. If he is the best candidate, I do not know.

I just hope there is an alternation of power in America. I do not see how another 4 years of government of the Democrats may be good for the United States. Many risk agreements were made in the Obama administration, like the nuclear deal with Iran, the opening of embassies in Cuba. The growing threats from Russia and China in Ukraine and the Pacific.

I saw we start a crowd fund to either build a time machine or cloning machine to bring George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, JFK, back from the past or from the grave to kick this current governments ass for letting the country go to hell.

Our involvement in Iraq helped lead to the rise of ISIL. Plus, most of the reason for invading the country was fabricated.

When the Islamic State begin to decapitate the head of civilians, let's hope that diplomacy of Democrats resolve the problem.

Well, I think that the majority of Americans would appreciate the return of presidents like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. =)

We are FOR the WA resolution.

Just like some idiot who started a petition on the white house website to build a death star (This actually go 30,000 signatures and the government released a ACTUAL statement on why they will not build a death star)

No, what we really need to is to build a functioning warp drive. Then you do a slingshot around the sun to travel back in time.

On a related note, could you imagine having all 4 of them in the same room together?

Teddy, you went too far.

In all seriousness, warp technology won't be practical until we can develop a material that can survive upwards of 1 light-second/second-squared acceleration (that's almost 300000 km/s^2). The forces involved in accelerating the engines to warp speeds wouldn't transfer into the rest of the ship fast enough, causing the engines to tear through the rest of the ship. If you were to counter this problem by accelerating slowly, you'd reach your destination at about the same time as you'd reach Warp 0.5 (which isn't anywhere close to half of Warp 1, and are generally inconsistent with the previous), and take you thousands of years. One proposed solution is the Alcubierre drive, whereby a spaceship would contract the spacetime in front of it and expand the spacetime behind it, allowing an object to arrive at it's destination faster than light would in normal space. It does, however, require creating a negative mass field around the object to be accelerated. A curious effect of the drive is that the object itself would not experience any additional g-forces even when accelerating. To any inside observers, their "bubble" of spacetime would be stationary, and the rest of the universe would be accelerating at blinding speeds around them.

I'm going to have a serious talk about this concept because I'm part of the science department for the WSA. We're already talking about Tachyons. Negative mass is an interesting concept.
