It is our great pleasure to announce that once again, the long-awaited Texas Elections process has begun on the offsite forum! Second Trimester 2014 Texas Elections start ***TODAY***! Currently we are accepting nominations for 4 positions of the Texas Cabinet. We are also accepting nominations for the 8 positions of the Texas Representative Council! All nations are free to make nominations whether they are registered on the offsite forum or not. If you are not registered, we ask that you sign your post with your nation name and send us a telegram on NationStates so we can confirm it was your nomination and not someone off the street. Information and postings should be made here: http://invisionfree.invalid.com/forums/Texas/index.php?showforum=257 - it can also be navigated to by going to the URL in the Factbook entry above and then going to NationStates Texas Forum->Texas Government Forums->Texas Election Commission->Current Elections. Please note that there are two threads - one for the Cabinet and one for the Texas Representative Council. Please participate in both. There is also a place to make New Articles, Amendments & Repeals to the Texas Constitution.

The nomination process will be the first of three parts, each lasting one week. First, any Texan can nominate any other Texan for any of the positions listed (please read the rules on the post and in the Notes section). After a week of this activity, the next week will include any speeches or comments by the candidates, questions for the candidates and responses by the candidates; this will last seven days. Finally, polls will be created and the final voting will last for one week. Only Texans as of today - July 27, 2014 - will be eligible to vote.

Nominations close at High Noon (GMT -6) Sunday August 3, 2014. Constitutional matters close Sunday August 10, 2014.

Any questions about any of these positions can be asked publicly on this forum, privately by telegram to NewTexas, via Personal Message on the offsite board or by e-mail on that board. The URL for the Texas Forum is http://invisionfree.invalid.com/forums/Texas/

Thank you in advance for your participation! And, by all means, participate and Have Fun!

Long Live The Great Region of Texas!

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal "National Economic Freedoms"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: GA#68 Proposed by: The Dark Star Republic

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #68: National Economic Freedoms (Category: Free Trade; Strength: Strong) shall be struck"...

<see page=ga for full text>

Oh boy yet a new Repeal! This one is authored by a Texan no less using their WA nation located in another region [Absolutely amazingly anarchic armadillos]. When this one came around in October, 2009, Texans were pretty much split over this resolution - 7 for and 5 against. This is one of those that comes off all well-meaning and nice-sounding, but there are some hidden gems in that that ruined it for us. In partiuclar, we did not like how nation must compensate another government if it seizes any physical property or money from another government, individual or group. What the hey? If we "annex" somebody, we have to pay them back? The author lists many, many more reasons to repeal this one. As a reminder, the issue here is the REPEAL of the existing law. A vote AGAINST this Resolution means you are in favor of the existing law and do not want it repealed. A vote FOR this Resolution means you want the law off the books. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response rate was flat on the last GA vote -- Convention on Fracking -- which was defeated after gaining only 35.48% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 6 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 6 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

Note: NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly-expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. As we have been saying for years, Texas is a force in the WA. Many feel that Texas can influence the overall vote if it votes first. There is an observed "lemming effect" that occurs during voting. Apparently a large number of votes are cast based on whichever side of the issue is leading when voters vote. Therefore, to get the most impact from our vote, we are now voting first. We will re-evaluate our original vote at midnight prior to the current vote. As always, we are open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. Comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known in Texas by 11:00pm Wednesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00pm Texas Time on Thursday the 31st. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 928 Votes AGAINST: 2205

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal "Condemn NAZI EUROPE"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: SC#37 Proposed by: The Dourian Embassy

Description: WA Security Council Resolution #37: Condemn NAZI EUROPE shall be struck"...

Oh boy yet another new Repeal! The invader march to clear the WA of any slurs to their "good" name continues. You may remember earlier this month when the crappy "Condemn The Black Riders" was repealed. Now the invaders do not want their name permanently etched on the region of Nazi Europe. We can't seem to imagine why since they seem to like to see their name scrawled on every other region of The World. We don't think there should be a time limit on how long invaders should be punished. As a reminder, the issue here is the REPEAL of the existing law. A vote AGAINST this Resolution means you are in favor of the existing law and do not want it repealed. A vote FOR this Resolution means you want the law off the books. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response rate was down on the last SC vote -- Commend Sciongrad -- which was defeated after gaining only 30.93% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 4 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 3 AGAINST and 1 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were almost unanimous.

Note: NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly-expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. Ok, sadly enough the repeals are gone for the moment. It their place, we have this pathetic little piece of legislation that urges us, as a government, to "educate the public as to the dangers of the internet". Great, can you see the PSAs now with Mr. Mackey saying "Internet bad, M'kay? World Assembly Good, M'kay... M'kay?!?". The author went to the trouble to mention "non-state actor"s, but did not exempt them from anything. So any government cyber warfare would be illegal. This is a bad one. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response rate was up on the last GA vote -- Repeal "National Economic Freedoms" -- which was defeated after gaining only 23.35% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 7 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 3 FOR and 4 AGAINST and 1 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were pretty split on that one.
