You have at your personal disposal one of the horrors of Middle-Earth to unleash upon nuisances. Which do you choose?

Sounds like the sort of question Galadriel would ask.

It's been a while since we had a music poll. In fact, it's been over 4 years! Time for Music Poll 2: Favourite hobbit song. The songs are from a variety of sources. One of them is recited, not sung, but I included it because of the person who recites it. Enjoy.

In 12 days time the 8th anniversary of our glorious regions shall be celebrated how are things faring for the old of Mordors allies?

Devilish orcs

It is time for this region to finally burn!

Gondor is very well, thank you 9003 from Mordor. As you can expect, my inner clock goes slower than an Ent's, considering I'm a tree. Waiting for the April showers and thunderstorms to be over. Then I can open my blossoms. How are things over there in Mordor beyond the Ephel Dúath?

Hello, hello, hello! I am Rebels and Saints, temporary diplomat under the Klorgian Consular Administration. I see you recently formed embassies with Liberalia, and I am here to tell you that you will not regret it! We look forward to a friendly, productive relationship.

Cheers Gondor. Does this RMB need awful puns?

We may seem slow in our responses... well, we are, but eventually, respond. Very happy to have this new embassy!

At least it will keep the Oliphaunts out.

I was indeed on holidays.
Thanks team!

Palantiri

What are the palantíri?

Now with awkward technical analogies!

The palantíri were round stones crafted by Fëanor.

In The Lord of the Rings, three remaining stones in Middle Earth show up in the story. The Orthanc stone is used by Saruman, later more or less accidentally by Pippin, and then deliberately by Aragorn. Sauron owns the Ithil stone, and Denethor has the Arnor stone.

Palantíri could be used to communicate with another person looking into one (telepathic videochat). With a seeing stone, one could see what was happening in far away places (satellite images with zoom). If one person using a palintír had a strong influence over another, they could also direct their stone to show them only selective content (television).

The latter happened when the steward of Gondor, Denethor, used his stone to look into Mordor and neighbouring areas. Sauron made sure Denethor only saw things that furthered his madness and despair.

If the palantir was Denethor's TV, is the white tree Aragorn's marriage license? ;)

And the orthanc stone was Aragorn's gauntlet.
