Mind the lake. The water was fresh and sweet and in the morning its steam smelled of incense. I went to bathe at the water’s edge and found the floor fell away. On a lark I took a flashlight and rebreather to see if I could find the hidden bottom. The sun behind me wavered between the mediums. I looked up and saw clouds of fish silhouetted against the wiggling orb, and felt scales rub against my side. I lost all hope of finding the lakebed. I found much more swimming with the schools.
