Age of Apotheosis
The sky promised rain. It lay heavy and gray and grumbled with precipitous intent. The dusty stones on the mesa said otherwise. They claimed that it hadn’t rained for years. The truth, allegedly, lay with the scorpions. They had evolved to sense stormy weather and would crawl up the walls of the mesa like ants before a flood. I leave it to the entomologists to study this phenomenon; I have no desire to see it myself. I have escaped an island of pincers once before, and it was luck.
They called him “EA,” an abbreviated abbreviation. His chancery was torn between traditionalists and traitors. The loyalists were secret Raiders.
In the thunder, I hear the Monolith call to me and ask, “What does the Dagger cut away?”
