It is capable of firing different caliber, depending on the launcher pod itself. As such, it can fire 130 mm 20×2, 227 mm 6×2, and 239 mm 6×2, which all varies on their numbers and payload. The rockets can also be modified, adding thermobaric capability, making it deadly on the receiving end. It is capable to fire both guided and unguided rockets, with ranges of a maximum 80 kilometers. It also has an armored cab (STANAG III), allowing the crew to be protected from small arms fire, along with a self entrenching blade, enabling it to stabilize itself in different firing positions. The rockets have 15 kilograms warhead, making it deadly in such ranges. With the ZAI-8 hull and engine, it can cross rivers and perform bombardment, before retreating away from any possible counter-barrages. The ZAI-8-MLRS is also equipped with 6x MG ports located on the sides of the vehicle, enabling it to defend itself from any ambushes or surprise attacks. With the ZAI-8 STANAG-IV armor, it can protect the crew inside from rifle rounds, or rocket propelled projectiles.
