I've lost beloved pets too, and it's painful. I still miss Mojo, my all-time favourite cat.

I have voted AGAINST Anti-Counterfeiting Pact. On the whole, it seems a fairly sensible law, but I do not understand the declaration of war clause built in. This, to me, seems to be problematic. But if anyone cares to explain this to me; perhaps I have misunderstood?

The regional vote is not in line with the region individual members, nor the world vote. As always, please discuss on the RMB or telegram me for a change in vote.

I think it's to make the money so worthless they can't buy weapons and supplies from other countries.

I lost Pets too, my cats jerry and tom where run over by a lorry and my dog just ran away ;(

RIP, Parkertania.
RIP, Sapient Homos Returned. Return to us soon, as you always do.

Once again, NS crashed while I was concluding a long, heart-felt post on animal companions. &^%&%! Let me just summarize that the days of cats and dogs being allowed to roam outside are long, long gone here in the USA unless you literally live out in the middle of nowhere with no traffic and no other cats or dogs nearby. My pooches have the next best thing--doggie doors so they can go as they please into the large, fenced-in side yard. They wouldn't run away, but they have no concept of how dangerous cars are. My cats were 99.999% indoor cats and were only allowed outside as a special treat and only under supervision, as they were declawed and would have been vulnerable in a fight. It's no coincidence that my cats were, by far, the longest-lived pets anyone in my nuclear family ever had.

Right--inducing hyperinflation against your enemy is one of the most effective nonviolent strategies in war.

We keep all the cats inside. I have a large screened in porch that is the outside for them. My cocker spaniel who was born deaf and blind due to Double Merle aka “Lethal White” is a house dog that we walk in the back yard on a leash because she likes to have the "life line". The yard is fenced in, close to an acre and the other 2 pups have free range of it when it is not freezing cold or stupid hot.
It is always painful to lose any of them. They are family..

Thanks to the Dr. George, Telgan, and the rest of the region for opposing the repeal of my commendation. Unfortunately, it's almost certainly going to pass. So it goes.

Unfortunately, that's how it goes sometimes. Enjoy the sticker while you have it for the next 12 hours and know that you are a hero to us and to many.

And if you like, come join Potonia and me as we partake....

Hoosier daddies refers to family pets as "temporary family members." He's right.

Agree completely. I've only ever lived without a dog for a short time (~bout a year), and I hated it. I love my dogs. One of 'em is in my lap as I type this.

That is why I shall get a pet tortoise. It will most likely out live me.

Xampotism and I are in the top thousand for being 'least corrupt'. That implies that we're still corrupt, just not as bad as everybody else.

I have two pet tortoises (Anastasia and Sophia). I often describe them as 'heirloom pets'- they're almost certainly going to outlive me, and be passed on to the next generation. Tortoises are interesting and cute, but they don't give you the companionship that you get from a dog or a cat. Personally, I'm a cat person, but dogs are good too.

*Joins Potonia and Dr George for a smoke.*

Weed is still illegal in Britain, of course. Which is utterly ridiculous given how many otherwise law-abiding citizens smoke it (e.g. myself). With the argument for marriage equality pretty much won, at least in Europe and North America, is this the next big fight over civil liberties?

Thank you kindly for the Thorazine, Dr. George. And might I say that everyone here looks wonderful as green tuxedo clad tortoises.

:D VQoM, I think you've had enough Thorazine for now. ;)

While I do have goldfish in my koi pond, I don't really think of them as pets, just as a feature of the grounds. Unless we were moving to another house with a koi pond, when we eventually move from this house, I'm not planning to take the fishies with me. Nor will I dig up some of the palm trees, as the previous owner did.

I think when you're in the top 0.7% (or less), you can honestly claim you have virtually no corruption.

Techno-titania

Thanks everyone for your comments. You made me cry again but they were helpful to my healing process.

I'm just kicking myself over his death because it didn't have to happen now. It is solely my fault. I was arrogant and complacent, two things I despise in others. It will haunt me to my death. I think I learned a valuable lesson but I now must apply it or its useless. I should have learned this lesson before but I allowed the power and intelligence of my eldest cat to believe he was immortal.

I have had almost 20 cats and 20 dogs over my life. I currently have two cats (4&11 years). I was arrogant because my 4 year old was diagnosed with an i curable disease and told he had two months to live maximum. That was 3.5 years ago. I was complacent because my eldest was so powerful a cat and so intelligent I believed he could do almost anything.

What made this the worst day of my life was that I couldn't be there for him. I was on a business trip in Ecuador when I learned he took a turn for the worst. I am kicking myself again and again for going on the trip and for believing the vet that taking a sonogram was unnecessary at the time. I think she too was fooled by his strength of character. I could go on about what made him special as a cat and person, but words can't do it. You have had to seen him to understand. Everyone who did commented on how amazing and different from other cats he was. Even the vet was amazed and said she seen no one like him (20 year exp).

I also focused too much on work before I left so i didn't fix my video surveliance system at my house so I could monitor him when I was away. This and other things are all my fault. My father says hindsight is always right but somehow it doesn't make me feel better.

I did do a video call with him and I could see him fighting, even in his wretched condition but I knew that I couldn't get there in time, unless I put him on pain killers....maybe. I couldn't bear to watch him euthanized but my wife and I called him and spoke to him during the process to tell him how much we loved him and how sorry I was.

And now i can see by the videos my cat sitter is sending me my little guy is depressed, and i am still away. He has never been away from my eldest cat who was the rock that stabslized my feline family. The little one is my wife's favorite so now I have to deal with the repercussions of my stupidity for yet another three days. Right now my wife is looking for a flight home. Crying again.

I knew I shouldn't have gone on the trip.

A friend here did do something, quite unintentionally, that did a lot to help me heal. He took me to an associate he knows who has a number of cats. Spending time with them made me feel better. I was pretty much an automaton the last couple of days. It allowed me to talk and let out my frustration with myself and share memories. Really helped.

Thanks again for your kind comments. You have been very helpful.

RIP, Darthmouth jr, Tllhkkuwm, and Aspiring Wisdom.

Techno-titania, you need to stop beating yourself up over this. Everything that is living is born, lives, and eventually dies, regardless of strength of character. I wouldn't go so far as Hinduism and say that life is suffering, but no one escapes this life without at least a few scars, some more than others. Would your physical presence have made a difference in the outcome? Possibly, but probably not--there's no point in debating the probabilities, that will simply deepen and extend your suffering. You can't indefinitely put your life on hold when you have a sick cat, or even a sick parent or a sick child. If you had positively known your cat was about to die, perhaps you could've cancelled your business trip, maybe not, but you had no way of knowing what was going to happen. I'm not going to insult you by offering any of the usual platitudes; sometimes life just sucks and for a while you have to gut it through the pain. You can talk to us any time, as most of us have been in your shoes. I have, many times. Don't hesitate to draw upon the resources you have in and beyond your family. You are a part of the P115 family, too, and we provide a safe place wherein you can be real and not have to hide your pain behind a mask.

More hugs, Techno-Titania. Dr. George has good advice. I'm glad your friend with the cats was able to help you in a tangible way.

To Clone or not to Clone that is the question.
What are your views on cloning? Should we... Could it be a disaster?
"In 2013, Russian scientists discovered the stunningly well-preserved carcass of a woolly mammoth buried in the permafrost of a remote region of Siberia. In addition to analyzing the remains to discover more about how the animal lived and died some 40,000 years ago, geneticists believe the mammoth skeleton--nicknamed Buttercup--might hold the key to bringing the long-extinct species back to life."
