Well, yes you are correct that it could take weeks or months for a region to become large and 'successful' (usually)
So, you could hang out in The Rejected Realms if you want.
Alot of us are very friendly to newcomers & TRR culture has really brought me into sync with the core essence of Topialands.
I would refer to The Rejected Realms as (one of) the best regions on NS but I wouldn't call it the ABSOLUTE AND ONLY best region on NS.

There are a lot of regions like Thalassia (even better than Thalassia) on NS. Of course I'm obligated to recommend you stay in TRR, as we've got a great offsite player base with weekly games and events, as well as influence in global politics. We also help defend regions across NS from invaders. But if you're looking for something else, tell me: what do you want in a region?
I am mainly looking for a region not too big but also not too small. One with a friendly/chill community where I can just peacefully stay over and improve my nation. I would also like it if the nation is active in roleplay.

Well, I don't know too many RP regions, but Refugia is very chill (and I think it has roleplay?) and 10000 Islands is a pretty sizeable but not too big UCR that has some RP (although I don't remember it being too good).
