Emperor withdraws proposed tax reforms after protests and mass arrests
Emperor Constantine I has announced he is withdrawing a contentious tax reform proposal after thousands of protesters took to the streets across the nation for several days to denounce the measures.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Emperor said he would ask the Senate “to withdraw the bill proposed by the finance ministry, and [instead] urgently process a new bill that is borne of consensus, in order to avoid financial uncertainty”.
The proposed reforms, which the Imperial Government had insisted were necessary to stabilizing Valcouria's finances, maintaining its credit rating, and funding social programmes, drew widespread public anger and protests.
The plan included new or expanded taxes on citizens and business owners, as well as the levelling of sales tax on utilities and some food.
But many working-class Valcourians, already struggling under an economic downturn, said the reforms would hit them too hard.
“We’re here to say ‘no’ to these reforms,” Sonia Margolis, a teacher, told reporters during a protest in the capital, Bainbridge, on Friday. “They’re robbing us poor people, while they give everything to the rich.”
The Interior Ministry said it had confirmed over 200 arrests and six deaths related to the protests. “I reiterate that protests must be peaceful, and that security forces uphold public decency and order,” Interior Minister Octavia Dollarhyde announced on Sunday morning, prior to the Emperor's announcement.
The Finance Ministry had stated on Friday that the contentious reform could be revised, but that it could not be withdrawn in its entirety.
The Emperor's announcement on Sunday “is a major win for the protesters” that also “shows how weak the Emperor's government is at this point”, exiled left-wing journalist Alexander Rostrum reported from neighboring Teckia.
Rostrum was one of many left-wing opponents of the Emperor during the last years of the Republic, and was forced into exile upon the Rise of the Empire in 2012.
“There was widespread opposition to this reform from the people. I don’t think he has a lot of possibilities except withdrawing this reform,” he added.
Nevertheless, the Emperor reiterated on Sunday that tax reform remains necessary.
He said local officials, business leaders, and civil society groups have contributed valuable ideas over the last several days.
The proposed reforms come at a time of uncertainty as the Emperor has been busy restructuring his government, which has become unpopular due to the economic sliding that has occurred over the past few months.
“It is a moment for all of us to work together without malice,” the Emperor said.

Following the quick and swift victory over the city of Csatorna, preparation and reinforcements in the port city have allowed for the the next offensive against the Plagyorasians to begin.
Extensive planning by military command has allowed for Bakyernians to prepare for the next major advance against Plagyorasia; to occupy the strategically important canal the Plagyorasians are trying to hold onto. Already by the afternoon of May 2nd, smaller advances were being done by Rangers to prepare the way for the reinforced Bakyernian contingent now on the move.
Air strikes committed by VTOL aircraft launched from amphibious assault ships off the coast have been suspected to be successful, with targets such ammo depots, enemy military hideouts, air and ground defenses, and FOBs being bombed by SK 115 aircraft. Following the strikes, already infantry personnel alongside their mechanized and motorized vehicles have begun the advance alongside the canals and other villages near Csatorna, with some villages and towns being pressed to surrender before facing the Bakyernian contingent.
More success for the coalition and Bakyern, as it seems that victory is already ensured for the coalition.

Komonzu Area Common Passport design reveled
While the Komonzu Area only contains one nation so far - Layfet, the common area passport's future designs are currently being finalized. The design team, led by Jason Hidokawa says that the passport will not feature any national icons, instead focusing on more international ones.
Hidokawa stated that while the area may only contain "a handful of member states in its entirety," the International symbols in the passport should be taken from everywhere and not just its members.
While the icons chosen for the background of the passport have not been finalized or designed yet, some proposed include the World Diplomatic Tower in Layfet, the World Trade Center in New Sebronia, the painting of the signing of the peace accords that end the Great War, an underwater basin in the Paisi Ocean, space, a background to include the flags of every nation in the world, among others.
Hidokawa also expressed that this idea around the passport might attract some nation into joining the area. "The area cannot remain just Layfet if it wishes to meet its ideals." He said.

Extinct Seabirds Make Shock Reappearance
Declared extinct some five decades ago, it would appear that not even fifty years could keep the plucky Northern Petrel bird down forever, with a healthy colony being discovered on a remote mid-Paisic island.
The tiny birds, measuring around fifteen centimeters in and weighing barely a few ounces, had thought to died off at some point during the 1970's due to human interaction, climate change, and industrialisation of the rocky North Anterian coastlines they required for nesting, pushing them into the domains of more successful predators.
However on the remote, centuries abandoned Strabo islands - former Vultesian whaling stations jutting out from the icy seas of the Northern Paisic ocean, a flourishing, and very much extant flock of these birds has been recorded, sending ornithological circles into jubilation.
The charismatic seabirds are known to be some of the most graceful fliers of all the pelagic species, coming to land only when breeding and spending much of their lives 'dancing' above the waves, feeding on plankton, small fish and other meals of opportunity, special glands even allow these tiny creatures to drink sea water.
The colony was discovered by an Air Force survey team, currently assessing the remote islands. With team leader AMaj.Tomosz Blær, of N°80 'Infrastructure Development' Squadron, remarking that the surprising colony of petrels is just 'One more item on a long list that makes these islands so special.'

Today was the 3rd day of Telsruk Haven's visit to Vultesia which has been called the Delamere visit referring to the border of Wellsenfaile-Vultesia. Everything you need to know about the 3rd day of the visit down below.
The first stop of the tour was the Mödy Pour VPA brewery with the owner being Mr. Kurtiss Afhærtd. Located in Hætstil in the Heartlands of Vultesia it is a very prominent brewery in Vultesia. Telsruk Haven and Felics Basztyn were taken on a Guided tour by Master brewer Mr. Ionnes Ionnit. Then there was a Q&A and a sampling session. Both leaders sampled some of the best wine in the principate. A Photo Op followed before Haven made a quick announcement. He announced that Vultesia had agreed to export alcoholic drinks to Wellsenfaile, primarily beers and whiskeys and also some wines and gin. Many Wellsenfaileans are happy with the announcement with over the past few years Wellsenfaile has experienced a massive shortage of alcoholic drinks with very high prices for them.
After a drive, both leaders arrived at Alverseln Croft, an independent sheep farm located in the village of Alvesrseln where they were greeted by farmer Mr. Ionnes Vælenitt, his wife Mrs. Vilippa Vælenitt, and their children Miss Æl Vælenitt and Mr. Leo Vælenitt. The men had a guided tour of the farm before doing some work around the farm. The leaders learnt how to shear sheep and also fed some little lambs. Both men were having a great time as photographers took the advantage of this unusual scene. After that, they made a home-cooked lunch, had a Photo Op and then boarded on a helicopter to go to the next stop of their tour.
The last stop of the day was the Obstreldmer Garrison, a new model army base located in the town of Obstreldmer, in the highlands of Vultesia. When the leaders came off the helicopter they were greeted by a cheer from the soldiers. The leaders shook hands with the Brigade commander, Brigadier Hal Ragal, and some of the other high-ranking officers. Then the leaders were treated to a military parade which both leaders enjoyed very much. Then they were taken on a military vehicle offroad experience, then came an evening meal with the commanding staff. Both leaders were interacting a lot with the soldiers with Haven looking very happy. Nighttime came and a firepower demonstration commenced. It was a great display as the day came to a close.
After that Telsruk Haven had to say this: "Today was a day which I don't think I will ever forget. Vultesia is a wonderful country with amazing people, from the highlands to the heartlands. I have experienced something I don't think I will ever experience again, and that is why I am grateful to Vultesia".
This is what First Citizen Felics Bastyn said after that: "We hope that Mister Haven makes the most of all that Vultesia has to offer, that from the Highland, to Heartland, to the shores of the Outlands, he experiences the authentic Vultesian slices of life in the Principate that we can show him. 2 Tabuluan Soldiers Injured by Insurgents
In an act of open warfare and resistance earlier today, 2 Tabuluan soldiers were injured by insurgents in Fort Ka'kua. While the soldiers were not critically injured, and are expected to return to duty later this week, attacks like this are becoming more and more common. The insurgents initially drew attention to themselves by burning a Tabuluan Ground Forces flag off the balcony of the third floor of a building, before dropping it to the ground and firing on a group of 6 soldiers. 2 of these soldiers were injured, one by a gunshot to the upper leg and the other by burns caused from the flag. Soon after, the group of insurgents fled. On-scene, blood presumed to be from the insurgents was found spattered on the stucco buildings and throughout the carpet within the building.
The military take-over has been getting precedingly difficult for Tabuluan Armed Forces, with open acts of resistance becoming more and more common. Defections amongst the armed forces have reached a rate of 6 per day, or roughly 0.014 percent of all members. Further yet, the large amount of privately owned weapons with some upper-class citizens even owning Infantry Fighting Vehicles has put pressure on the largely illegal government to give up power to the people and re-hold elections. The government is yet to cave; however the heightened and active resistance operations have slowed down their influence.
An Excellent Display
Regiments from armed forces colleges from every corner of Rutheneja were on display earlier today, with another yearly rendition of the yearly Armed Forces Day of Rutheneja. They marched with pride in a grand military parade that took place today on Ramanski Street in front of Freedom Square.
But this year was a bit more special. With the new government in power, soldiers marched with pride. Pride they had earned by fighting for the people of Rutheneja, not against. Also for the first time, segregated male and female regiments there were not. Combined regiments made up the majority of the parade, a signal for a rapidly changing social landscape in this day and age.

The globalists in Layfet have been caught red-handed as a spy in Bakyern has been caught and arrested by law enforcement and intelligence agencies earlier this morning.
The spy was arrested by members of the National Police Authority and the National Office of Investigations on a raid on his apartment building today in the morning. While not a lot of information has been released about the spy, he can be charged with counts of aggression against the government, espionage, and treason, with a minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum sentence of death.
Many Bakyernians in the public and government are outraged at this latest aggression committed by Layfet to try and make its small nation have supremacy over Bakyern, and they obviously have failed in that considering investigators stated that the spy has done a "terrible job at hiding his trace" and "expected more from Layfetians". The man has been identified as Victor Lawrence, a 25 year old from Layfet.
Discussion in government has already begun on what the appropriate response against Layfet's aggression will be, but many officials in the Department of Commerce are suggesting imposing sanctions and the Department of Homeland Security is suggesting to place Layfetians nationals under a temporary watchlist to make sure no more spies are still infiltrating Bakyern. The President and Secretary of State have yet to have made a statement regarding the incident.
Layfet will face the consequences for its crimes.
Government House Comments on Layfet-Bakyern Confrontation
The Prime Minister's Office of the State of Gassasinia has released a public statement, expressing concern that Bakyern's ban on Layfetians leaving their country constitutes a grave violation against the Freedom of Movement - a commonly accepted basic human right - commenting that "It is crass, irresponsible and childish to use unwitting civilians as pawns in a geopolitical show-down."
No official statements have been made about the spy situation itself. However, anonymous sources have indicated that the Prime Minister has called a cabinet meeting with his top ministers and leadership from National Police, Security Services and the Defence Force to discuss counter-espionage measures.

Mass protests after failed assassination attempt
Protests have sprung up around the Paracell Islands, after a failed assassination attempt on prominent socialist; Mänek Tâpes. Protesters, whom mostly despise the current ruling government; swarmed government buildings and set roadblocks across multiple cities, which in turn caused heavy traffic. In response, The National Security Authority (NSA) advised citizens to remain in their households, citing that violence and/or riots may occur.
Socialism is extremely popular among the population, causing small strikes and protests. The popularity caused the ruling party - Natiôas Parçlà to suffer major losses in polls, leading to the decision to assassinate Mänek. No statement has been made from Natiôas Parçlà or the president.
Mänek, whom was shot at seven times; miraculously survived the assassination attempt, only taking one bullet in the leg. Bystanders fought and killed the assassin, leading to multiple arrests. After the incedent, Mänek called for the withdrawal of the ruling government; leading to the protests and strikes.

Tabuluan Junta demands removal of Torvonese Naval Base on Tabulu
The Federal Government of Tabulu has issued a demand stating to the nation of Torvon, of whom Tabulu is a dependent, should withdraw its naval forces and dismantle its operations in the area. This comes within a week of the junta siezing control, and is the first of many expected demands. Specifically, the document sent states that "Torvonese Maritime Operations are to be indefinitely suspended within 50 kilometers of Tabuluan coasts, under the jurisdiction established in regard to Tabuluan Maritime law, of which the penalty on the international level shall be no less than a fine of 5,000,000 dollars and temporary seizure of the vessel. Failure to comply within 14 days as of May Fourth, In the Year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-one, shall result in enactment of these measures."
Pro-Republic protestors and insurgent groups have shown dissatisfaction with the enactment of the isolation, of which would likely collapse the Tabuluan economy and drive the nation into complete and total poverty.
