A man named Max Barry released a website called NationStates to the Public. He created feeder regions, where starting nations would end up at first. This is a historical archive about one of the groups, this is a history about the North Pacific, the largest feeder nation.
2002-2007 (The Early 2000's)
Extremely little is known about this timeline, so I'm working with pretty basic stuff. By the end of 2002, 81,00 people were playing in NationStates a together, because of this we saw some earlier members of the community such as Wilkshire for example. Keep this name in the back of your heads. Eventually The North Pacific would have it's first delegate, which is not really worth discussing, since most of the earlier delegates are currently dead. I'll leave a link to helpful resources including McMasterdonia's leader page, documenting early leaders from 2002 to 2017.
The aforementioned Wilkshire would become delegate in 2004 after Nastec and a dead user named The twoslit experiment in 2003. 2003 was more or less the beginning of NationStates's relevancy, so leadership was very important around this time. The years would play out normally with elections twice a year for the position of delegate, thus giving rise to early delegates throughout the Early 2000's and also all of the time. Wilkshire would oversee the creation of TNP's first constitution, which has been used as a basis to build the newer constitution, so while he may no longer be in power, his influence still lingers on, this era would also create the forums in 2005.
This earlier era would end in 2007, when I actually get more evidence for this time period.
2007-2011 (The Late 2000's)
Around this era we would see the rise of the forums, while the forums had existed previously, it was only now that the forums gained major use. We would see users that are still around today for example, r3naissanc3r. Whist evidence is still very limited, I have more evidence thanks to the wayback machine, where you can go see what TNP was like from earlier in the years. In 2008, the United Nations would file a lawsuit against Max Barry, and they changed the name to the World Assembly, despite the url still being with un. The RMB would get a new system as well, it would delete all of the old RMB messages and it was called the Civil Headquarters, it would only save 10 messages at a time. In 2011, they would change it back to the RMB of today and it deleted all of the old messages of the Civil Headquarters that remained, at the the end of this the website would get a redesign to look more modern. And from here we have documented evidence, so this ends the era of uncertainty of answers.
2011-2016 (The Early 2010's)
We know have the RMB in it's modern form, thus beginning a known paper trail, currently having Chokean Dal as delegate. During this era we would see the rise of nations like Zazumo start to exist. This time many users who would exist during this era, would leave pretty quickly. This also began flaming as the Civil Headquarters didn't have that as much. This also was the beginning of post suppression as finally spamming and advertisements can be managed with along with now making double-posting against the rules and the rise of flaming.
In 2011, the first instance of Z-Day occurs when Max Barry introduced it. It is dreaded amongest the community.
This would end abruptly in 2016 with the second ever DDOS (or Distributed-Denial-of-Service) attack, with the first being in 2014.
2016-2020 (The Late 2010's)
This era we would see nations like Aerilia and Western Vapia to start existing. To understand the DDOS attacks, I'll leave a link to DDOS on Wikipedia for you to understand better, dear reader.
In 2018, the Third DDOS attack occured and the site changed looks into it's modern form. Many of the RP communities based on both the forums and the RMB would rise in the last era or this era. The late 2010's are probably the least noteworthy, and once again this era would be stopped briefly into 2020, with the COVID-19 Pandemic. However this gave rise to a new event when a certain member joined, it was the creation of TNPV, or the The North Pacific Vision, these people would emulate a Eurovision-esqe style music competition with giving votes to others and while not a official institution in TNP, it's still insanely influential.
2020-2021 (The Early 2020's)
This is my era, or the era that I joined the community, so why does a individual year need discussion, Drew Durnil, that's why. In April, Drew Durnil made a account here and a video about NationStates, while some people took it positively, others clearly didn't and in May... the site crashed, this was not the fourth DDOS attack, that never happened. But the nation of Duruu was CTE'd along with most of the following nations after the event known as the Drewpocalypse, spamming, flaming and double-posting became far worse problems, especially in the feeder regions, and since TNP is a feeder region, TNP kind of became hell. In June however, the effect would begin to reverse around and normalize itself. Then Z-Day 2020 was announced, which caused backlash due to now dealing with a virtual virus and a real virus. I'm currently writing this as a sense of historical recollection, of barely recorded history. So, Thank you for reading the archives. In 2021, McMasterDonia said "Look at you being wholesome" to Democatic Donkeys, this will be a random fact I threw in for no reason.
