The 93rd coalition

Enemy.

Effing traumatic.

Effing eff in the effer. Eff. Eff. Eff.

Might I be of thome athistanth, maithers and mithtrethes?

You might want to help 93rd with that nasty outbreak of effs. You could probably store the excess effs for use later. It would be reassuring to know that, should any ZF resident suffer an attack of efflessness, help would be at hand ... speaking of which, do I recognise the hand of old Gramps Igor there?

The 93rd coalition

Yay, we have social activity.

Anyway, I was referring to the movie. You know, that one with the kid from October Sky?

Nope, dunno it. I'm following Igor's Discworld theme.

Speaking of which, is there anyone in ZF who hasn't at least tried to read Terry Pratchett's Discworld stuff? The thought that anyone might have missed out leaves me gasping, as no doubt my ignorance of 93rd's movie reference leaves him gasping.

So, is there anything that anyone absolutely must have read if they want to understand your references? Things that, to you, must be so obviously part of everyone's background knowledge that you feel a bit of culture shock when you run into an NSer who doesn't know them?

For me, it'd be the Discworld novels, plus Star Trek and, of course, The Simpsons. I'm slightly surprised when folk don't pick up on a Three Stooges, Family Guy or Monty Python reference. It's more sorrow than anger when a Firefly nod goes unnoticed. But probably the only music reference I expect everyone to get is Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen's, not Bartok's).

I also make silly assumptions about everyone recognising quotes from my pet poets and literary pin-ups, but I don't get that "What? A person alive in 2014 who doesn't know X?" vibe when people don't.

Which Star Treks? Because there's more to life than TOS.

Why, TNG, if course ... but all of them, really. I mean, how could anyone not know about the Guardian of Forever, or the Prophets, or the Wormhole, or, dammit, Q or Tribbles?

Janeway was masterful in her handling of Q.

The 93rd coalition

I remember Q and tribbles, only because I was never that big of a Star Trek fan. The only thing that could hook me into the craze would be a Spock/Data movie. I'd like that more than a Transformers movie with a plot.

Not to disparage Michael Bay.

OK, I'll disparage him a little bit.

You are a god to me. I will kill myself or others in your name.

Or... I dunno. Get you a pizza? Yeah, I'll get you a pizza.

Mmmm... pizza. So many good places for pizza where I live. All within walking distance.

A-HAH! Now I've got an idea who this Igor is made up of. And if I'm right, that's not the first brilliant music you've introduced me to. *confers immunity from toads*

....that's weird and doesn't feel right.

Post self-deleted by Ardchoille.

The I-gore is an app that vampires use to test for the presence of allergens in their food.
