Corsairs? They just make computer parts, nothing illegal

I relocated here because I saw that you had a regional government. How active is it?

Pretty relaxed Belmaria, so possibly not what you have come looking for.
Thanks however for calling in!

We're always open to suggestions, Belmaria. So if you have ideas about how to get the regional government more active, or you'd like to run for a particular office, feel free to express yourself!

@Al: Corsairs? I think they're near smoothairs. ;D

I just got a lovely error message: "Sorry, your faith is too short."

Welcome Belmaria (and any others I may have missed). Do please stay and get us organized!

We'll eat them for you

I've been reading over the forums a bit, and it looks like Canada used to have active political parties, but now the house of commons is pretty much comprised of independents. Would you say that's the case?

The parties never really functioned on a political level (with the possible exception of the CSP). They were more like social clubs and an excuse for banter.

I see. Well, I plan to start a party of my own. Hopefully it will result in a resurgence of other political parties.

I wouldn't say the House of Commons was active enough to even have independents. However, that's the practical case, at least.

I think the Eggplant Party of Canada is a prime example of this

I plan to start a social liberal party, with a platform that stands in the middle of the Liberals and the NDP. I shall call it the Liberal Democrats. Would anyone be interested in helping out?

I can see the relevance to RL issues, but how would it apply to NS Canada?

The government RP does engage in realistic political action, right?

Governments of Canada have always – and only ever – been out-of-character, addressing issues regarding gameplay and inter-regional relations. The governments of the region have never sought to play a hand in players' nations or cross into in-character game play.

So depending on what you mean by "realistic political action", the answer is yes or no. Realistic political action relating to the game NationStates and player/regional politics within it: yes. Realistic political action as in playing as an MP for the nation of Canada: no.

That said, we did have a formerly active in-character national role-playing sub-forum, where you could RP diplomacy or relations with your fellow nations in Canada. It might be worth checking that out and seeing if it's more to your tastes or if you'd like to try your hand at reviving it?

Out of character governments are no fun. There's never anything to squabble about.

Welcome to the party!

Oh we've had OOC squabbles. We had a big split several years ago which nearly destroyed the region.

Those fights aren't entertaining, they're usually only destructive. IC fighting usually doesn't result in mass exodus or IRL coup attempts.

Agreed. I was just refuting the point that there is "never anything to squabble about" OOC.

We've had a lot of more constructive OOC disagreements, too. They usually resulted in synthesis rather than compromise, and a stronger overall result.

What sorts of policies are set by the regional government, and what is there to debate about?
