Congratulations Tamatun and welcome home. That would be as good a reason as any to not prefer Tam. hehe...

Welcome back Tamatun.

Thanks Wallabies. Yes, our ninth birthday as a region came and went yesterday. Where were we all just nine short years ago?

Salve, mei amici.

Ut Valestis?

Oh I see, you're back for more on the issue of that non-extinct but very dead language, huh?

Jestem bardzo dobrze przy okazji! Dziękuje Nerosina. Jak się masz?

Hey, Polish is neither dead nor extinct!

But I am glad to hear you are okay, I am pretty fine, allot less stressed now.

I imagine you are. I'm just taking it easy. Killing Centipedes with attitudes. They all have attitudes and they all need killing.

Well, why didn't you say so sooner! *grabs a hammer and starts bashing along the table*

you guys are great, you know? really glad I met everyone here

Welcome back Greto!

Ah, I just love seeing nations who either faded away or moved to other regions return. It is always nice to welcome back a familiar face...or in this case a flag.

Yes and Regional Health Authorities should finally condemn Atlantigria's cooking and baking. Has anyone else noticed the decline over recent years? I mean, Absolution once had over 1,300 nations in it and most of them were eating in her cafe against my best efforts to inform everyone about the concern, right? Look at us now! Uh-huh, uh-huh...

It's a simple matter of two plus two. Elementary some may say.

What do you make of this documentary "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" Watson? Three dudes leave after 25 years and spill the beans on the magical cult. Final solution much? Even Captain Kirk told Spock's brother in Star Trek 5 that he didn't want his pain removed; that he needed his pain. The plus must exist with the minus. It's just the way it is.

I remember the days when Absolution had over 1300 nations, that was quite a feat. I also remember the terrifying CTE exodus that took place. Whew! The dust cloud that was left after that one left me searching for my old sun/wind/dust goggles.

About the Scientology bit; I do have to say that the creators of South Park did a good number on them when it comes down to being offended. Of course they were not the only religion that show had taken a jab at. For years there had always been characters, whether named or just side characters, that happened to be Mormon until they finally pulled out all the stops and did the episode "All About Mormons". The difference between the two? Scientologists got upset while the LDS church just brushed it off. I had a laugh at the latter, having been raised LDS but have since departed for personal reasons *cough*agnostic*cough*.

Ah yes those were the days, Absolution once hit over 1000 Nations, and then went on to exceed 1300 Nations, every Nation that contributed to that achievement will never be forgotten, the recruitment stats, the members of the Recruitment Team at that time are still listed on spreadsheets and rolls of honour that I still have saved to this day.

Absolution didn't Recruit through mass telegrams to other Regions, nope instead we did things the old fashioned way, the way of hard work, hours spent sending individual telegrams out one by one, we built our population through sheer resilience, a personal belief in what we were creating with each click of the send button, we were apart of something, that sure other Regions can say they have higher populations, but show me a Region that has a Recruitment Team like Absolution had that Recruits like we did and then we'll talk, we'll compare notes as Ambassador, but until then keep sending your mass telegrams.

It took courage, it took stamina and determination, a resilience to keep pushing through, not give up when the chips were down and to be resolute in what we were trying to achieve, the principles of Absolution kept us all strong, there was no barrier too great, no achievement too ambitious, we created something to proud of, that no one can ever take that away from all those that were involved.

Absolution is the greatest Region within NationStates, I will never doubt that, as Ambassador I served this Region for many years, taught and continually mentored by my predecessors, supported by my contemporaries, and always inspired by our elders and founder, and it was one of the most humbling and fulfilling times of my life!!

I therefore propose a toast . . . Absolution Forever!!

Here, here!

Absolution Forever!

Mass telegrams were a huge mistake in my opinion and represented to me the day NationStates truly died. It became an evolution of what NationStates used to be. The comradery had been replaced by impersonal process. Perhaps people are meant to pay to compete...

*cough* Jolt *cough*

...and people obviously do but recruiting itself has had an evolution many times all it's own since people started doing it way back near the beginning of this century.

People talk. That's what it's all about. They share interests and decide to build things. That to me, is what I remember NationStates being. Now it's just process. One-half the Human element has been removed. I suppose one could continue recruiting old-school but it wouldn't be capable of competing against modern methods. Yet Absolution has always held to the informal policy that it competes solely against itself. That, was a winning formula people and I am proud to have seen it happen a few times over five years. That's an extraordinary length of time. Seriously.

Following nine years of this, I can truly say without any hesitation or inclination of reservation that I haven't the foggiest notion why any of you are still here. I'm not spinning a yarn either. Part of what I continually wanted to know and understand laid within that question for many years. In many ways my education began with the introduction to you folks. Tamatun asked for a forum in 2006. That was the point of the pin that launched my interest in coding. Drunce was a Constable back when we were maintaining law and order by dossier in 2007. He introduced me to an HTML frameset. Nerosina taught me about ASP and database usage. I found something I love here. Presented to me by the people here. For nothing.

At one time Absolution had nine regional domains including wikis, blogs, forums, radios, jukeboxes, map office, PVM Esquire and Clinton the Dog. Cafe, Pub, Barber Shop, Horoscopes, arcade, Top Five, Ambassador Control, Constables, RIM's, Recruiting Interface, The Ministry, Council of Nations, regional elections, The AIA, Howard Huggingston and Iggy the Madman. There were drink menus and daily specials. There was a daily spotlight. And above all that, there were the people and were they ever international. I loved it. They were the ones in charge, not me. They earned it, and they did something with it. They presented and promoted and brought about process and progress right in front of me and everyone thought me humble as I stood here shouting LOOK AT THEM GO! No, you guys made Absolution in every way from beginning up till now and I've never once denied it.

I have no other place where I've known of so many people and watched them go through life than here in Absolution. Through their highs and lows. From their youth to their adulthood. Through years of schooling. Pregnancies. Girlfriends. Boyfriends. National Service, name it. It's been here man, along with an entire ocean of personalities never forgotten. So what is it now?

Someone here once said that our size has never defined who we are as a group. That it merely represents an achievement. If size is an achievement then I believe we have nothing left to prove to that task and are capable of meeting a much larger challenge. One more deserving of Absolution. An evolution of our own one might say. Stay tuned for year ten everyone and thanks for the fish slaps Cookie Gurl! <3 <3 <3

Hear Hear!
*rises glass*
I was thinking of writing some long text about what Absolution is to me, but I would just be repeating it.

So instead, I will just say thanks- This Region has been a valuable place in my heart. As Assorro pointed out, it was here where I grew fromm teenage-hood to adulthood, and it was hear that I had people I could lean on for said process.

So Assorro, Thank you for founding the region almost ten years ago. And thank you everyone for being a part of it.

You are most welcome Nerosina.

I've been living in Absolution's basement for awhile now.

It's nice, and despite myself not looking "alive" in the sense of joining in conversations and such, I do read the message boards and such. However, since I am more like an "observer" than anything, during my time here I have noticed a strong bond between the people here. I guess it's one of the reasons I decided to make this my home. There is no pressure directed at you to do anything. It's a nice, polite and respected environment. Plus, the humorous conversations are amusing to read.

So I guess I'll just say well done to you all for creating, what is in my opinion, one of the most evolved and respected region and community on NationStates. It's a great home.

Now if you excuse me, I'll return to the dark basement and return to the corner. :)

Ugh, Assorro, you make me sound so spoilt. I asked for a forum, I got a forum.

You do realise we're all only here because of the bet we have going?
Personally I didn't think Clinton would still be alive, he's so fugly, but there he is.
