Mauritian coalition

Tabcorp park wrote:So the Scottish referendum has really been a massive boost to the Conservatives in the UK election. Labour was on a hiding to nothing. The SNP vote was always going to rise, and the Conservatives were never going to win a seat in Scotland which meant that only Labour were going to get punished. With Labour also joining the No movement there is little chance that will align with the SNP to form a coalition thus handing a seemingly easy win to the Conservatives

I had a sneaky feeling that this might have happened and it will be interesting to see the repercussions of this election in the coming years.

Thoughts?

I think in practice the only ever party that was going to form a majority government (A coalition I thought, just like all commentators) was to be with the conservatives at the helm. The leadership of Miliband was not a safe option for voters in all honesty. He took the party to their traditional grassroots, never went into specifics about fiscal policy and in fairness never seemed like Prime Ministerial like although he did perform very well in his campaign towards the end.
Labour MUST regroup and get behind a Leader all the way, which never seemed to be the case very much with Ed. They need a strong orator, one like Tony Blair, which in my opinion, there is only one man, Chuka Umunna. He is perceived very positively in the media and doesn't seem like someone who constantly needs a script at hand, which was the feeling with Miliband. With regards to the SNP there is really little much they can do. They don't hold the balance of power and with a Tory majority, just like how all political parties are perceived, they will fail in what they wanted to accomplish in the campaign. (1. Stopping a Tory majority and 2. Stopping their mass public spending cuts.
I must say my political allegiance does lie with the conservatives, but Labour have a future, and I believe a better future in Scotland, making gains at the next general election in 5 years to come.
Let us look forward to the Single-Party government to come, and remember this as The most Remarkable victory in this century, and may God bless Our United Kingdom!
