***** Texas March Madness Announcement *****

Texas, March Madness is upon us! Texas, and guests from our friends and allies, we have a new game in town. It is an old and familiar game to most, but is the first time offered in Texas - it is March Madness 2015 NCAA Bracket Picking! And, best of all (to some), there is absolutely NO WAGERING! This is just going to be good clean fun for bragging rights, and, maybe, some "prizes" of sorts. It is just for fun and not for profit.

We have created a new set of pages on the same web site that we use for NSSuite, Texas Map and Texas Chat. It is located here:
http://www.texasregion.net/brackets/

Note: There is not much to see or do at the moment since the brackets have not been announced and we have not opened anything up. Sign-up and bracket picking will begin after the brackets are announced on Sunday, March 15, 2015. Sign-up and bracket picking will end just before the tip off of the first game on Thursday, March 19, 2015.

We will post more information on the offsite here:

Good job nextex, although the link to the offsite does not work.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Commend Forever Fields
A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation Nominee: Forever Fields Proposed by: Jakker City

Description: The Security Council,

Applauding Forever Fields' 11+ years of"...

<see page=sc for full text>

WooHootie! The Security Council is out to Commend Forever Fields. While we have never met Forever Fields as that nation, we have met another incarnation known as Neo Nibu. They were nice enough. We are kind of shaky on this one. It almost sounds like a violation of the Fourth Wall Rule and is a commendation of a player versus the commendation of a nation. We count at round 5 different nations; accomplishments included in the commendation. Are they commending Forever Fields or the player behind those five nations, one of which is Forever Fields? Oh yeah, did we mention the author is the invader who invaded Texas? Invaders suck. We will err on the nice side and announce, NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was up a bit on the last SC vote -- Repeal "Liberate Democratia" -- which was defeated after gaining only 25.67% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 5 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 5 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

NewTexas has already voted on this Resolution in advance of publicly expressed opinions. We did this at the urging of many leaders in the World Assembly. As we have been saying for years, Texas is a force in the WA. Many feel that Texas can influence the overall vote if it votes first. There is an observed "lemming effect" that occurs during voting. Apparently a large number of votes are cast based on whichever side of the issue is leading when voters vote. Therefore, to get the most impact from our vote, we are now voting first. We will re-evaluate our original vote at midnight prior to the current vote. As always, we are open to suggestions on how we should vote on this Resolution to most accurately reflect opinion of the populace. Comments are welcome from all nations, both WA Members as well as those who are not. Please make your voice heard on the current issue either on this message board or on our offsite message board. But, by all means, please vote on the WA Page!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All WA Member nations please vote. Please make your opinions known in Texas by 11:00pm Sunday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00pm Texas Time on Sunday the 16th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 6473 Votes AGAINST: 1341

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note for which Resolution. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal "Cooperation in Science Act"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: GA#92 Proposed by: Ainocra

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #92: Cooperation in Science Act (Category: Education and Creativity; Area of Effect: Educational) shall be struck out"...

<see page=ga for full text>

Oh boy, we have a new Repeal! Yay! Let them all fall! This one passed in May, 2010. Texans did not like that one much bay a vote of 2 for and 9 against. As a nation, we were opposed to it because we thought it was toothless and did nothing more than urge nations to do something , or, not. Furthermore, it created yet another Programme Office to sit around and spend our money. This one needs to go. As a reminder, the issue here is the REPEAL of the existing law. A vote AGAINST this Resolution means you are in favor of the existing law and do not want it repealed. A vote FOR this Resolution means you want the law off the books. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was up a bit on the last GA vote -- Nuclear Material Pact -- which was defeated after gaining only 24.57% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 6 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 0 FOR and 6 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

***** Cross Regional Games - Winter Edition News *****

In the Cross Regional Games - Winter Edition over in scenic Herzil, Wysteria, the Skijoring Event started with the first round - skiers pulled by dogs. Two Texas teams did well with Guinan of Trecdom2 smoking a blistering time. Despite that small victory, Guinan did not fare as well in round 2 - skiers pulled by motors and only Mr. Sulu of Star Trek advanced to the final round - skiers pulled by horse. Once again, Texans failed to medal with Mr. Sulu being disqualified in the money round. Congrats go to Wysteria, Yggdrasil and 10000 Islands who took Gold, Silver and Bronze in that order. Ice Hockey was the other event held this week with Texas teams being matched up against competitors from all over The World. In the first round, the NewTexas All Starz narrowly defeated Ater nox of 10KI to advance. The Transporters of Star Trek advanced as well with a win over Controlitia also of 10KI. The final member of Team Texas to advance was the Ten Forward Pirates of Trecdom2 who beat The Ice Dragons of Herzil decisively, by a score of 4-2. In the second round of Ice Hockey, the NewTexas All Starz were destroyed by 10KI's Flemingisa Phoenixes. The dismantling of Texas did not end there with Star Trek being destroyed by 10KI's Klopstock Jagr Bombs. Our last hope was the Ten Forward Pirates of Trecdom2 who saved face for Texas by defeating the all-girl team from Cazalius lodra of 10KI in a nail biter that went all the way to the end with Trecdom2 barely winning 1-0. The third round ended Team Texas' hopes when the dingdangged Jagr Bombs knocked out the Ten Forward Pirates. Sighs were heard all around from the Texas delegation who decided to just skip viewing of the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds live, opting instead to watch it on TV from the confines of NewTexas' own Hans & Franz Restaurant set up in Herzil just for the Games. Five Events remain and the medal count for Texas is looking sad. While not shut out, we should be doing better. Speaking of Hans & Franz, The Sausage Kings of NewTexas, they are still MIA in the Alpinism event at the moment. Attempts to contact them or late add-on Jean Claude Van Damme have been unsuccessful. Foul play is a definite possibility, however, knowing the area and the dangers posed, accidents or other tragedies are the more-likely suspects.

Texas teams are encouraged to cheer on their teams here:

Are You Ready For March Madness?

BRACKETS ARE OPEN!

http://www.texasregion.net/brackets/

We can't hear you! Are you ready for some hoops? Good! Let's set some general ground rules.

• Let's limit it to two brackets per player

• Bracket Name can be anything, but it would be nice if it incorporated your NationStates Nation Name (i.e. NewTexas All Stars)

• Your Name should probably be your Nation Name. You may not be able to use it twice. We do not know yet. If not, we are sure you will figure something out.

• We will repeat the rules, No Wagering!

We also suspect if you submit two brackets, you will need two email addresses.

If you make a mistake on your bracket, we can fix it. Let us know on here or on the offsite (link at top of page). Changes must be made before the tournament starts.

Oh yeah, it is open to Texan nations, Texas Embassy nations or any just plain ol' Friend of Texas nation!

Have Fun!

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

Description: The World Assembly,

Supporting ongoing efforts to control infectious disease"...

Well, the Repeal gravy chain is over for the time being with the introduction of this life-saving legislation authored by a former Texas Secretary of WA Affairs. There have not been too many healthcare Resolutions lately. This one could be perceived as a piece of Big Brother legislation requiring all travellers with medical conditions to carry the same medical card to each WA nation they visit. Think of it as kind fo a global Medical Card or UCMP as the author calls it. Hmm. It has valid points. It aslo sounds kind of socialist or Big Brother-ist. Hmm. We are a bit wishy-washy on this one. Initially, NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was up a bit on the last GA vote -- Repeal "Cooperation in Science Act" -- which was passed after gaining 85.83% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! Listen up, everyone! Before you guys go out celebrating tonight, I thought I'd give everyone a few tips to enjoy St. Patrick's Day safely. Many of you might not know this but there have been many unfortunate incidents on NationStates during the night of St. Patrick's Day. Some say it is just a case of bad luck, but there are quite a number of people who have felt a dark presence lurking around NationStates, and unfortunately a few who have met their demise at the hands of this evil. I don't know the complete story, but I can tell you how it starts.

If you are unlucky, you'll see a telegram from an unknown sender. It will say that you have found a pot o' gold. All you have to do is travel to a mysterious region to claim it. Whatever you do, do not accept their invitation! It is not known what happens in this region, but those who have gone were never seen again. Fortunately, there are ways to keep from getting targeted. Carry plenty of lucky charms. Wearing green might keep you safe. Some have even said that drinking green beer can increase your luck. Better safe than sorry. And believe it or not, NS does take precautions to keep everyone safe. I mean, why else would Max Barry use green as it's theme?
