And just stop for a moment and think of why real countries don't let non-citizens do anything. It's pretty much for the same reason.

But there's no path for non-citizens to become citizens. Applications for citizenship are capriciously denied.

Just rename the region "Bureaucratem" or "Tyrannyeum" if you don't want anyone else getting votes and civil rights.

I've voted with my feet and have moved out of the region.

Also, I have no idea if we reached the 2/3 for the new Constitution, but because we're still debating it (I don't know why people waited until it was in the polls to start actually debating, but whatever), I'm just going to say it failed anyways and we're still running with what we have now.

So, yeah. I think I can get a nice compromise of a Constitution drafted up soon, and we'll see what people think about that.

San andrias wrote:I've always hated the idea of Bicameral legislature's. Why don't we just keep the board?

The Senate isn't in addition to the Board. It replaces the Board with something with a name more befitting a legislature.

It's also smaller, because nobody wants to do anything anymore, but it can be grown later because that's how things work.

So goddamn close to 2 quadrillion Denares.
One Denare is about a quarter-ounce of silver, which makes one of them worth 4 bucks and change.

That is a lot of American moneys.

This is an interactive alternate history roleplay. Choose a country and explain what actions it takes every post cycle. One post cycle is the equivalent to six months in game time. During this you may explain domestic politics, take action on other nations, talk to each in-character, and develop technology (realistic to the time period). The end of one post cycle and the start of the next post cycle is signaled by a response post by the moderator once everyone is satisfied with posting. Combat is handled via dice rolls.

Alpine Federation
After the fall of Austria-Hungary and the Partition of Germany, many of the Southern Alpine states decided to band together for mutual interests and protection; noting its difficult position as being sandwiched between the ambitious German states and the Italians to the south. With the reality of holding territories from both areas, the possibility of war with another power is never too far away; but the rugged Alpine terrain may prove enough to deter most foreign invaders from its territory. As one of the only true republics in Europe - perhaps the only one of its kind - It will face a unique political situation in which it will have to resist the imperialistic and federalist attitudes of states on all sides. It is also at a prime location to reform both Germany and Austria-Hungary; but with the possibility of Italian meddling in the Balkans and the new Yugoslavian state holding sway, it is going to be an uphill climb.

Basque Republic - Also known as: Basqueland, Basque Country
During the civil war between Crown Loyalists and Republicans, the Basque seized the opportunity to proclaim their independence from Spain. Like their neighbour, Catalonia, nationalist Basqueland relies on the failures of Spain to maintain stability. Interest has now shifted towards liberating the Basque community across the border to be incorporated into a unified state. Recruiters have travelled across the Pyrenees to stir the flames of rebellion, but have had little success. Although national pride is high, Basqueland needs to address domestic problems which, if left unattended to, will see the country collapse. The economy is in a shambles with industry in the region having been ravaged by Spain’s economic woes, affecting the standard of living. The military also requires attention. It lacks sufficient training, size, leadership, and supplies. Should Spain or France regather then the future of Basqueland would be in doubt. An alliance with Catalonia is essential for an economic boost, but there is worry in the government that the growing radicalisation of their counterpart may put sovereignty at risk. However Basqueland seeks to address its issues, violence may be unavoidable.

Catalan Republic - Also known as: Catalonia
After the end of the Great War and the internal collapse of the Spanish Crown, Catalonia's independence has been swiftly and constantly determined by its military and political prowess. Stuck in a tenacious position between France and Spain, two former superpowers, Catalonia's survival depends largely upon its ability to maintain its nationalist integrity and resist the forces pressuring it from the outside. With both nearby countries vying to regain their lost prestige and power, the so-called 'Underdog of Europe' has so far managed to beat the odds and maintain its territory, claiming more as the two nearby powers slowly collapse. However, with the rise of radical ideologies such as fascism, ultra-nationalism, communism, and anarchism, the internal politics of the newly-forged Catalonian state have grown increasingly volatile; and the state's continued existence relies upon the failure of both France and Spain - should either one regain enough power to stabilize their regimes and focus on the 'Catalan Question', the State will be far outmatched. The War in France, even with inferior strength, has proven to be a major boon; and both France and Spain will quickly look to regain their lost territory. Catalonia is, truly, a nation forged in the fires of the Great War. Whether it survives will depend largely on its military strength; and the dual collapse of Spain and France may prove both an opportunity and Catalonia's potential downfall.

Kingdom of Czechoslovakia
Being sandwiched between three major powers, the Kingdom of Czechoslovakia has had to survive as one of the last bastions of the Old World's method of thinking; and has managed to maintain its territorial sovereignty through a careful dance of politics and diplomacy. Avoiding the war and leaving silently after the collapse of Austria-Hungary, they have remained mostly ignored by the world powers that surround them; but this 'status quo' may soon be upset both by its strategic location as a gateway into former Austrian lands and the Slovak's increasing militancy after the recent crowning of a new Czech king. To survive, the Kingdom will have to, yet again, carefully dance around the powers near it and deflect the prying eyes of Europe, and perhaps, one day, reunite the lands of old Bohemia into a new kingdom-state.

Kingdom of Flanders
Where Wallonia is an ally of France, Flanders is a likewise-similar state as an ally of the British Empire and, to an extent, the Dutch. The renewal of the Treaty of London – signed by Flanders, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and surrounding countries – has been of great benefit to the small state. It has ensured neutrality with protection and close economic ties with both the Dutch and British bringing about a bustling manufacturing industry which has boosted the military. Like their neighbour on the southern borders, there is a movement to form a united Benelux nation; but with the Flemish being predominantly Dutch and the Walloons being predominantly French, there is an undercurrent to exclude Wallonia due to their way of life. This has led to further divide between the two former Belgian states with civilians from either country receiving a cold, sometimes violent, welcome should they cross the border. The movement to unite the Benelux lands has come under scrutiny from nationalists who believe in the independence and traditions of Flanders, sparking minor riots. Either path, whether it be a Flemish independence or a single Benelux, social and political stability will be put to the test.

Third French Republic
The French Third Republic is once again buckling under the strain of insurrection and revolution, having lost the province of Alsace-Lorraine to the Germans, but retaining her military strength. The war in the south has sapped France's resources; and with the rise of the Communist ideology in many Eastern European states, many of the French working class are seeing it's government's loss of power to be a clear indication for the need for revolution. As well, France holds within its sphere of influence several rebellious satellite states; being one of the only powers actively trying to stifle German unification. With that, it would surely be lost, but trying to maintain the integrity of three nations at one time has turned France's political domain into a minefield. With nationalist sentiment growing by the day, and border disputes with the nearby states of Wallonia and Catalonia, the French Republic has become a veritable ticking time bomb. Only time can tell what may occur should the French government fail to maintain its power.

Germany - Kingdom of Prussia, South German Republic, Federation of the Rhine, Republic of Hanover-Pomerania
The Great War was a war that broke empires. With Germany, this was no exception. With the Partition of Germany into its four main states - Prussia, the Rhineland, South Germany, and Hanover-Pomerania - the German State is all but a thing of myth and rebellious legend. Many desire a re-partition and reunification of Germany, but with the great powers of Europe holding the keys to the four main German states, this seems like a distant dream that could only be accomplished through some sort of miraculous event. Germany has not lost it's power completely. It's armies are still strong, and the German People still hold a minor amount of their own sway within the Concert of Europe. With the exiled German government holding position in the scattered remains of the once mighty Prussia, and with rebellion once again consuming the Great Nations of Europe, perhaps it is only a matter of time until the Kaisers can make their next move.

Kingdom of Greece
Greece did not play into this 'game' like the other Balkan states. Instead, with the fall of the Ottoman presence in the Balkans, the Greeks seized the opportunity and reclaimed most of its rightful territories near the Adriatic sea; all the way up to the Fall of Istanbul and the return of the Orthodox Church to Constantinople. Naturally, the Ottomans saw this as a threat; and will do most anything to bring the Greeks back under its heel and the old city of Istanbul back under its control. Even with powerful Yugoslavia to the north, a similar state with similar interests, Greece's survival will have to depend on itself as Greece is the first line of defence to an Ottoman Incursion. However, it has potential to expand greatly, if it can play the political strife in the Balkans in its favour. But time will dictate what may happen, and the Balkans have proven to be the most unstable.

Crown Republic of Hungary
After the collapse of Austria-Hungary, and the exile of the Dual Monarchy, the remains of the Austro-Hungarian government have fled to Budapest; abandoning most of its old lands in the hope of forming a new, Hungarian-led kingdom in southern central Europe. Although the state remains a Republic, the Crown has become dominated by the Hungarian majority - something the old Hapsburg dynasty finds to be rather unacceptable. Although internal strife is minimal, several nearby states - such as the newly-formed Romanian Kingdom and Czechoslovakia - see their weakness as an opportunity to expand. With all three 'remainder' states containing roughly equal power, and with nearby Russia too distracted to come to anyone's aid, what happens in Central Europe will surely be dictated by whoever acts first, and the survival of the Hapsburg throne depends on its ability to reform the Danube state.

Kingdom of Italy
The Italian Kingdom, having been one of the first states to form in the aftermath of the Summer of Revolution in the 1800's, has managed to remain strong and play the right sides in the wars of the modern era; from which the German State emerged in four separate pieces. With the recent crowning of Italy's newest king, the nation is rife with nationalist fervour and eager to prove itself; with its strength and position in Europe giving it a prime location for imperialist movements in Northern Africa, reality seems keen on fulfilling this endeavour. However, their interests in the Balkans and North Africa put them at odds with the now-powerful Ottoman Empire, United Kingdom, and France; and with South Germany as a satellite state, the Italians are forced to play a dangerous game of balancing German unification and other Italian movements. They are a rising star in the colonial game- by far, the power best-equipped to do so, apart from the United Kingdom itself - but Italian ambition may famously come to throw Italy out of her strength once more.

Kingdom of the Netherlands
Whereas France struggles with rebellion and the former Germany stands as a battleground for the politics of other nations, the areas of the Low Countries remain an interesting exception to the conflicts of Europe. Amongst this, the Netherlands is no exception. Having stayed out of the Great War, refusing to take either side, the Netherlands has managed, much like Portugal, to retain control of its colonial empire; and gradually increase its influence both as a naval power and its position in the world stage. Although it's golden age in the age of sail has long-since passed, the Belgian Partition and the German Partition proves to be ample opportunity to pull surrounding areas out of the influence of other nations all the while ensuring a balance with allies. It has long waited in hibernation, and has plenty of opportunity to expand, but its lack of military strength and diplomatic influence serves as its Achilles heel. Allies will have to be chosen carefully, and balancing the dual interests in British-influenced Flanders and French-influenced Wallonia will have repercussions across the Dutch Empire.

Ottoman Empire
By some miracle, the Ottoman Empire managed to maintain most of the Middle East under its control; but at the hefty price of giving up the Balkans and North Africa. Several satellite governments were established, this time under the more direct control of the Ottoman Sultans, to oversee its far-flung territories in the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, and Palestine. After the near-collapse of the Russian crown, the Ottomans managed to use its significant military strength to overwhelm the Caucuses and establish another puppet regime in the area to act as a buffer to Russian aggression; but several regional disputes with Persia along with the Saud Dynasty's desire to form a unified Arabia has caused problems. With European colonialism on the rise, but with much more significant power, the Ottoman Empire has become a viable player in the World Stage and may become the hinging point for the entire southern theatre in the Balkans and in North Africa.

Portuguese Republic
Portugal remained largely untouched throughout the Great War, electing to remain neutral. This enabled economic wealth and the opportunity to expand the navy. Despite the good fortune, Portugal is in a political crisis. Since the Republic’s foundation there have been an unseemly number of Presidents and Ministries. Corruption is rife throughout the government and assassinations are a common occurrence. Social unrest has given birth to several civilian revolts and a coup, all of which were quashed. Economic issues are foreseeable as the belligerents of the Great War recover and settle providing growing trade competition on an unprecedented scale. The stability of the nation would be further rocked should the government fail to address these obstacles. However, the recent election of a new President may prove to be the stimulation it needs to overcome the debilitating dilemmas that cast the future in doubt. The road to recovery is a long one for Portugal.

Kingdom of Romania
Romania, however, profited heavily off of the twin collapses of Austria-Hungary and the Russian Empire. With ethnic land being reclaimed in Moldova and former-Ottoman Territory, the Romanian State now looks westward, naturally, towards the remains of the Empire in Hungaria. With the Russians unable to react, it seems in a prime position to move forward. However, with the Three Kingdoms ever-present on its Northern Borders and with the foundation of a new Yugoslavian State, Romanian influence has been relegated to entirely a matter of chance. Instead of striking swiftly and seizing momentum, Romania will have to rely on opportunism; and will benefit the greatest through the silent retaking and funding of revolutionary intent in neighbouring provinces or staying out of the eye of many of the major European Powers. It has great opportunity to expand, but only if it chooses its allies smartly and it's enemies smarter.

Russian Empire
The Russian Czars in the East barely managed to hold onto their own power; managing to unite the White Armies by some miracle and barely holding off the Bolshevik 'Red' forces from gaining control of Moscow. It did not come without cost however. With a unified Scandinavia in the north, a resurgent Ottoman Empire in the south, and nationalist uprisings in the west along with the Bolsheviks, Russia suffered the fate of losing territory on all fronts - swaths of land to the west to the Three Kingdoms of Poland, Lithuania, and Ruthenia; the southern Caucuses to Georgia-Azerbaijan, an Ottoman puppet; and the North and Baltics to the unified Scandinavian throne. Russia, as such, withdrew from most European politics to assume a position of isolationism; focusing on their own domestic problems and falling out of most repute for many Europeans in other states. Even now, the armies of the Czar continue to fight Bolshevik forces, and it still remains yet a contested matter of what state will fall to the Red Tide first.

Kingdom of Scandinavia
The venerable and aging Kingdom of Scandinavia has lied long in wait to the north; picking off pieces of the Baltics and Western Siberia from the slowly-failing Russian state like a pack of vultures, descending opportunistically onto its prey. Although it is itself stable, the political situation in the south has escalated to the point in which it now threatens their control. By swiftly putting northern Germany - Hanover-Pomerania - under its jurisdiction in a swift move during the Partition of Germany, as per Roosevelt's plan, it has managed to safeguard most of its interests. However, as the German State slowly begins to re-militarize, or if the Russian Czars can somehow manage to regain power, Scandinavia faces the potential for a two-front war against two very powerful forces - a war which, despite its stockpile of resources and manpower, it cannot win. The long-standing balance of power in the North is close to being shifted, and although Scandinavia prefers to remain relatively isolated from the political games in Europe, it may face no choice but to get involved.

Second Spanish Republic
Spain has been in a steady state of decline since the late 19th century. Having lost major overseas colonies, economic disaster came swiftly. Loyalty and faith in the Spanish Crown was further strained following defeat in an attempt to conquer Morocco. Military dishonour and widespread poverty ignited revolts across the country giving birth to civil war between Crown Loyalists and the eventually victorious Republican forces. The Second Spanish Republic now face an extremely difficult uphill climb to rebuild their once great society. Morocco looks hungrily at its vulnerable territory in Africa, and there is the question of Catalonia and Basque; once key industrial regions. Poverty and hunger continue to be rife throughout the country, fuelling support for dangerous ideologies – ultra-nationalism, communism, anarchy. Portugal and France have the capacity to be key allies, but talks are almost non-existent, hindering any chance of alliance. Should the new Republic play its cards right, both domestically and internationally, it may be capable of restoring the honour it has lost.

Three Kingdoms of Poland, Lituania, and Ruthenia - Also known as: the Three Kingdoms, the Triple Kingdom
Holding a reformed sway in the east, the Three Kingdoms of Poland, Lithuania, and Ruthenia, once part of the Russian Empire, have seceded to form their own western Slavic state stretching from Gdansk in the Baltic and Livonia all the way south to Upper Hungaria and close to the border of the Black Sea. While the embers of the Russian Civil War smoulder on, the Three Kingdoms has swiftly established itself as a major player both in the situation in Russia as well as a factor in German Unification. However, although it has a large amount of both land and resources, if either the Russian Czars or the German Kaisers manage to re-stabilize their positions and reunite the Throne, or, even, form some sort of alliance, the Three Kingdoms will be faced with the prospect of being unable to resist against two powerful foes; both of which claim parts of its territory as its own. Preventing German Unification and balancing the Rebellion in the East is the name of the game; and the outcome of either inevitable conflict will determine the Kingdom's survival. As well, with most of the Russian Socialists fleeing to Poland after the ongoing success of the White Armies in the Russian Civil War, the results of the Kingdom's democratic policies will have impacts in the entire region.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland - Also known as: Great Britain, the UK
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, in all her power and prestige, played a major role in the dismantling of the German state, but its support of Roosevelt's plan without the ceding of the all-important Alsace-Lorraine has left France bitter for revenge. The trade-off was swift and deadly: a disabled Germany in exchange for the loss of Belgium, as well as a new more powerful enemy in France. With the newly-found power vacuum left by the destruction of the German State, many new powers now find themselves at odds with Britain's global empire: namely Scandinavia, the Italians, and the resurgent Ottoman Empire threatening their interests in Northern Africa. Although Britain is, indeed, riding high in its victory in the war, the ever-increasing tide of nationalism as well as Britain's collapsing investments in Spain and Northern Germany threatens to erode the Empire's reach from the inside. Movements such as the Irish Republican Army, the presence of Indian and African insurrection against colonial rule, and the agitation of other British minorities such as the Scots and the Welsh consistently prove to be more than a small roadblock; and the advent of the early fascist movements seems to only be a precursor to the internal strife of the next age to come. However strong the British Empire may be, stability without violence may become a difficult goal indeed.

Walloon Republic - Also known as: Wallonia
The small, yet proud Wallonian State has made it clear it will not put up with the jostling of other powers in or near its territory. Having finally split off of Belgium during the Belgian Partition with the support of France, the state remains a strong ally of the nation on its southern border, and shares many ties with both French culture and French politics; even going so far as to commonly speak the same language. However, although the sentiment to remain an ally of or even join the French is strong, a significant movement exists to push for the re-unification of Belgium - and, some say, the full reunion of all of the Benelux nations into one single state to increase its influence and say on the world stage while also offering mutual protection. However, only time can tell what may occur in Wallonia, and the outcome will surely be a deciding factor in the French Third Republic.

Federal Republic of Yugoslavia
With the fall of Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Retreat from the Balkans, and the rise of nationalism following the outburst of the Great War, many of the Southern Slavs desired to band together in order to deter the killing blows of European colonialism and the powerful Italian state, just on its collective western border. Thus, a new Yugoslavian Republic was formed: And as the largest state in the Balkan Peninsula, what it does has a major impact on what may occur in the area. However, it faces enemies on all sides: A powerful Italy and Ottoman Empire to the East and West, with the Greeks proving a convenient buffer. With the potential to expand northwards, it is faced with the ire of the German state and having direct borders with the Three Kingdoms of Poland, Lithuania, and Ruthenia - one of the more 'Communist' states - which will be met as a threat to power. Every action will have to be calculated carefully; but its position as a regional player in the Balkans cannot be understated.
