The Republic of Tyrinda is a massive, economically powerful nation, ruled by Tyler with an even hand, and notable for its hatred of cheese. Its compassionate, hard-working population of 1.393 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Adams. The average income tax rate is 68%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Long arduous trials are held for the most trivial of offences, the "Underwear of Women in Power" issue of The Adams Times is sold out, all-natural foods are becoming a major fad, and the children of Tyrinda are often remarked upon for their cheery attitude to extreme violence. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Tyrinda's national animal is the Canary, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Dollar.

Tyrinda is ranked 3,964th in the Pacific and 95,522nd in the world for Shortest Average Lifespan, scoring -27 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
