The Socialist Republic of Itanica is a massive, socially progressive nation, ruled by Premier Seth Riley with a fair hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.075 billion hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Defence, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and the Environment receiving almost no funds by comparison. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Bratstvograd. The average income tax rate is 41%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Book Publishing industries.

The government encourages conflict abroad to increase arms sales, students in Itanica's schools rarely attend their classes, same-sex marriages are increasingly common, and the government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is crippling, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Itanica's national animal is the Pitbull, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Itan.

Itanica is ranked 66th in USSR and 71,033rd in the world for Largest Insurance Industry, scoring -1 on the Risk Expulsion Effectiveness Rating.
