The United Empire of Fercia is a huge, genial nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 614 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Equality, and Social Welfare. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ferciasen. The average income tax rate is 70%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Parents live in fear of governmental 'child protection' squads, Fercia's first free elections in recent memory have been successfully concluded, the government is making attempts at curtailing the flood of spam emails with little progress, and drunk drivers are sent to rehabilitation paid for by the government. Crime is totally unknown. Fercia's national animal is the Velasian, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Blit.
