Australian International Standard Tariff Scheme (AISTS)
An Overview of Australia's Current Trade Situation
            July 1st

The Australia International Standard Tariff Scheme (AISTS) was introduced in 1996 by National Republican President John Howard. Howard, like Deakin, was a protectionist, and installed the scheme as a way of moderating Australia's economic protectionist policies. Under the scheme, all nations were set at a baseline tariff of 10%; All goods coming from overseas were slapped with a 10% tariff, identical to GST (which was added later in Howard's term).

Any nation with less that 5 or less per cent tariffs is seen as a viable trade partner, and in most cases a close ally. Up to (but not including) 10% tariffs are seen as good, but not close, economic partners. Up to and including 15% are seen as disagreeable trade partners, and anything above 15% tariffs is considered hostile.

With Scott Morrison's 'Open Up Australia Policy' coming into effect this year, the President aims to achieve a number of free trade deals with close economic partners. Unfortunately for Australia, New Zealand will not be one of these countries due to the nations strict protectionist policies and fears that a free trade agreement with such a close competitor such as Australia could 'ruin' the native Kiwi market.

The first countries to receive the benefits of OUAP are Australia's closest economic partners; TPA Pacific Council (Currently 1.5%), United States of America (1.501%), Canada (Currently 4.991%) and China (5%). Australia also aims to have free trade talks with the United Kingdom, of whom currently receives a 6.90% tariff under the Europe-Australia Economic Agreement. President Morrison has stated that it is 'unfair' to put the United Kingdom, who Morrison called 'easily one of Australia's top 4 closest allies,' in with the rest of Europe. Australia is still hesitant to place a Free Trade Agreement with China, although Morrison has called the country one of 'growing trust and respect.'

Along with Morrison's announcements on free trade, Trade Minister Simon Birmingham has stated that the Democratic Economic Policy of 2013 (placed by former Republican President Tony Abbott) and the Trade Embargo on Pakistan and Qatar, will remain. The Democratic Economic Policy of 2013 was the brainchild of former President Tony Abbott and former Trade Minister Andrew Robb which saw a 15% tariff on 'disagreeable and undemocratic' governments. While the definition of 'disagreeable' is up to the own reader's interpretation, the tariff was placed on Bangladesh, SPRT, Venezuela and Vietnam. The Trade Embargo on Pakistan (20%) and Qatar (17%) was enforced in 2000 and 2016 receptively after it was discovered that both countries have strong links to terrorist organisations. Birmingham has stated that the embargoes will not be removed 'in the near future.'

            Long Live Australia
Australian Protests come to an end
            July 1st

After it was announced that protesters who are caught vandalizing property and engaging in civil disobedience would face 6 months imprisonment and a $1600 fine almost a week ago, protests have decreased massively. With almost all party leaders (with the exception of those on the greens and far left) condemning the protests, they have returned to peaceful protests in some areas and have stopped all together in most. President Morrison made the below announcement earlier today;

"Many of today's Australians will find themselves voting for the Greens and the Democrats when they reach 18. Many of our university students spend their free time preaching on the wonders of socialism and communism on Tik Tok and Instagram. Honestly, it's insane! Many of these children have never lived outside of Australia, yet they proclaim that this country is evil and must be torn apart! Australia's largest indigenous massacre was in 1923, but they act like it's happening today. Australia, like every country, has a very colourful history. There are some great things that happened, like inventing Tim Tams and Vegemite. There are some bad things that happened, like the Stolen Generation. You see, Australia is not perfect, and I'm not saying that it is, but we are a great and glorious nation. If you were to tear this country apart and transform it into some socialist utopia... Well, just open up your history books. If you had your way, you would be begging for these days by the time you get a few months in! I love each and every Australian, but some of you really need to pull your head in!"

50 protesters around Australia have been arrested, with the roughly $7,000 in fees being used to fix the damages created by the protesters.

Travel advisory warning issued for the US

    | Jakarta - Couple of days ago, a certain George Floyd was intentionally murdered in the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department. Derek Chauvin, the perpetrator of the event was charged with murder.(*) But not before leaving a massive impact on American history. A peaceful protest turned violent as it quickly plagued the country, resulting in numerous destruction, injuries and deaths. (**) The Indonesian embassy in Washington and several consulates across numerous American cities including Atlanta and Los Angeles had reported the use of violence by both sides, the security forces and the rioters. President Jokowi had condemned the killing of George Floyd and subsequent riots. Even went as far as calling the riots "an act of vandalism" against George Floyd's death. Yesterday, the parliament (MPR) had began a vote on whether or not a travel ban will be issued the US considering the intensity of the violence. The protests itself was more violent than Indonesia's own 1998 Protest. Furthermore, the Indonesian embassy had been sheltering Indonesian nationals in the country. While the MPR is still deciding on the travel ban, an advisory warning was issued, and travel to the United States is still allowed until further notice. Currently no Indonesian nationals has been injured nor murdered during the riots but there are reports of Indonesians joining the protests, mainly peaceful ones. The government had also informed that all Indonesian tourists to stay at their hotels or any form of residence for the duration of the protests to prevent any casualties to be imposed among Indonesians.

* = I'm assuming Derek was charged with murder as I didn't keep up with the RP

** = Assumption only because such protests would have resulted in deaths

Black Lives Matter solidarity protests end with bloodshed in South Africa after a night of violence

Cape Town - On Tuesday, thousands of South Africans from all walks of life marched in solidarity for the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement. BLM, an activist organization founded in the United States in 2017 claims to fight against systemic racism, police brutality and other issues affecting the African-American community in the U.S. The movement has returned to the news recently, following the death of an African-American man named Mr. George Floyd who was killed by a white police officer who knelt on top of his neck for over six minutes after being arrested. Slogans such as "I can't breathe", the last words of Mr. Floyd, have become synonymous with the BLM movement. The organization has called for defunding the police in response to the killing. All of this has led many South Africans, especially black South Africans to resonate with the movement. This sparked a series of marches and protests across the country's major cities, including Pretoria, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Windhoek, and Gaborone. While many of these remained largely peaceful, provincial Premiers deployed their local police forces in anticipation of violence.

No conflict emerged until later that day, when masked protesters rallied and began a march toward the South African Parliament building in Cape Town. There, protesters were stopped by riot police who warned them to disperse. According to police and SAPA reporters on the ground, the protesters refused and continued marching toward the Parliament building in an attempt to storm it. Many protesters who were interviewed expressed a desire to "send a message to the South African government that racism was still alive in the country." Their first attempts to enter Parliament were foiled by rubber bullets and tear gas that was fired from riot police near the premises of Parliament. A second attempt, about an hour later at 10pm local time, resulted in the deployment of armed soldiers who fired several rounds into the crowd, wounding several dozens and killing three people. The highly controversial act was justified by the Minister for Police, Mr. Bheki Cele who stated that he had "personally given the order to members of the city garrison to defend the Parliament building at all costs."

"We are not America." Remarked Mr. Cele during a press conference held this morning in Pretoria. "South Africa is a nation of law and order. Disturbances such as the ones that happened last night near the South African Parliament building will not be tolerated. If you want to protest peacefully, you can. If you want to express your grievances to the government, you can do that too. But storming buildings and attacking police officers will only result in what you saw last night." He explained, adding that he did not regret the deaths of the unarmed protesters.
"All of them were complicit in an attempt to disrupt the operations of the Government of South Africa. And there are consequences for that."

More protests are scheduled for today, according to several social media posts written by different activists. The Economic Freedom Fighters of South Africa are also scheduled to march today in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.

If The UN Can’t Help Us, Who Will?

More than one million people have been forced to flee their homes in the violence-ravaged East since the start of the year, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said on Tuesday.

The UNHCR voiced alarm at an increasing number of attacks by armed groups on displaced civilians, saying it was "appalled" by the surging violence.

"In the last eight weeks, UNHCR and its partners have recorded multiple attacks by armed groups on displacement sites and villages," it said in a statement.

It added the attacks were mainly in the states of Buganda and Luba.

"Violence has displaced more than one million people in the last six months in these areas," the refugee agency said.

The UNHCR urged the authorities in the DRC to strengthen the police and military presence in the east "to improve the security situation and hold the perpetrators accountable".

"UNHCR is receiving accounts of the way armed groups are unleashing terror on people as they flee, in displacement sites and hosting areas, and when they attempt to return, including reports of killings and mutilation, sexual violence and looting," the agency said.

"The displaced population is also subject to reprisal attacks for their perceived support for the army by returning armed groups, once the army completes operations to clear areas and is no longer present."

The agency said the attacks were worsening an already complex displacement situation in the eastern DRC and were piling pressure on the areas hosting internal migrants, which were lacking food, water and healthcare services.

It also said healthcare centers had been attacked, with medicines to treat people potentially exposed to HIV being looted.

The Congo has one of the highest rates of internal displacement in the world, according to the UN.

More than five million people within the country's borders have been uprooted by insecurity, while nearly a million more have sought safety in neighboring countries as refugees.

The UNHCR said those uprooted were overwhelmingly women and children and it was providing shelter, relief items, and cash.

The agency appealed for further funding, saying it had only received 21 percent of the 168 million dollars it needed for its Congo operations this year.

Some 1,200 miles from the capital Brazaville, the Eastern Congo is one of Africa's flashpoints.

It was the theatre of two major wars, which ran from 1996-1997 and from 1998-2003, the second of which eventually involved nine countries and two dozen armed groups.

Millions died from the fighting, disease or malnutrition, and violence and volatility remain acute today.

Buganda, in particular, has suffered at the hands of militia groups, especially the Allied Democratic Forces, a mainly Muslim movement that originated in neighboring Uganda in the 1990s.

Armando Lopéz claims himself as interim president

CARACAS, VERAPAZUELA - Opposition leader and current Speaker of the National Assembly, Armando Lopéz, has today been greeted by thousands of people in the capital city of Caracas as members of the opposition parties held an inauguration ceremony for him, swearing him in as an interim president of the country. Lopéz had already earlier in the year claimed, along many international leaders, that the last presidential elections in the South American country were fraudulent.

According to Verapazuelan law, the Speaker of the National Assembly has a constitutional right to assume leadership until fresh elections are held in the case of an unlawful election of the President.

"We are going to change things in Verapazuela," Lopéz told thousands of cheering supporters in a speech he called his "declaration to the Verapazuelan people". "We aren't victims. We are survivors, and we will lead this country towards the glory it deserves," Lopéz added, calling on the people, the international community and, crucially, Verapazuela's armed forces to support him. So far, it is hard to say if Lopéz has gained any support in the country's armed forces, but the international community and much of the protesters have sided with him.

Lopéz and his allies received support and recognition from a number of countries internationally, namely The american-states and the Central American Alliance. The Organization of American States also threw it's weight on the side of Lopéz, tweeting the following statement: "We welcome the assumption of Armando Lopéz as interim President of #Verapazuela in accordance with Article 233 of the Political Constitution. You have our support, that of the international community and of the people of Verapazuela."

On the other side, Maduro mocked his challenger while addressing a sympathetic audience of Latin American leftists on Tuesday afternoon, claiming most Verapazuelans did not even know who he was. "It's a show. No one knows who this guy even is, and thus his support is low. How could anyone take him seriously?" Maduro said, adding: "The Verapazuelan right is hopeless."

Verapazuela's chavista prison minister, María Iris Varela Rangel, tweeted a more sinister message: "Lopéz, I've already prepared your cell and your uniform, I hope you name your cabinet quickly so I know who is going down with you."

Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga has officially declared an end to an Ebola epidemic that broke out in the east of the troubled country since August 2018 and went on to kill 2,277 people.

The outbreak was "the longest, most complex and deadliest" in the 60-year history of the Congo, Health Minister Oly Ilunga Kalenga said on Thursday.

It has only been surpassed by the 2013-2016 Ebola epidemic in West Africa that killed 11,300 people.

On June 1, as the epidemic in the east waned, a new outbreak - the Congo's 11th since Ebola was identified in 1976 - was announced in the country's northwest.

For an outbreak to be officially over, there has to be no new cases reported for 42 days, which is double the incubation period of the hemorrhagic microbe.

The eastern outbreak was just three days from reaching the finishing line in April when a new case was reported. Further cases meant the clock was restarted on May 14.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reacted with fervor to Thursday's announcement.

"#Ebola outbreak in #DRC is OVER! WHO congratulates all those involved in this tough and often dangerous work to end the almost 2-year long outbreak," it said on Twitter.

Government recognizes Lopéz; expels diplomats
The Central American government announced this afternoon that Verapazuelan diplomats serving under President Nicolas Maduro had 48 hours to leave the country. He added that Central America would welcome a future diplomatic corps sent by opposition leader Armando Lopéz.

The decision was the latest example of the country publicly designating Maduro's presidency in Verapazuela as illegitimate. Lopéz, who recently declared himself as interim president, is currently leading an opposition movement against him. The Central American government hopes that other Latin American governments do the same.

President Nayib Bukele announced the expulsion in a memo published in Twitter. In it, he said that the Central American government "recognized the legitimacy of the interim president, Armando Lopéz, until new and free elections can be held, in accordance with the Verapazuelan Constitution." Bukele also said his government's decision was in line with previous reports from a UN human rights commission that Maduro had systematically violated citizens' rights.

President Bukele, a member of the conservative Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA), has voiced his opposition to the socialist Maduro on prior occasions, such as during his inauguration in January. "Maduro is a clear example of a dictator, they maintain power by force and do not respect the will of their people," he said at his inauguration.

      بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيم
In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful

      | KARACHI — Egyptian private companies are positioning themselves as the bringer of economic development in Pakistan, specifically in the countries poorer provinces such as Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which have historically suffered from electrical shortages and a lack of fiscal investment or development due to poor geographic connections and political instability. Egypt has pioneered a system of Islamic-self development and the sharing of wealth, science and culture between Islamic societies, called Islamic Socialism, one of the many theories of Imam Abbas, who led the Abbasiyah Revolution. Both Pakistan and Egypt desire further economic integration and cooperation in realms of civilian projects. Pakistan itself is already the poster child for the Chinese-led Belt & Road Project, a system of infrastructure links that China uses to develop productive ties in trade passing through the Middle East region but also as a channel of Chinese exports to wider markets. For Egyptian policymakers, the vision of making Egypt which is a country between the Red & Mediterranean Seas, the prime intermodal destination for Asian-Europe trade, is a long-standing goal. The first step of which, is developing close working partnerships with states such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and China. |

      | Egypt Construction Group (ECG), a private cooperate firm specializing in mega projects and infrastructure construction, has unveiled a new project in the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chitral District is a region with immense hydro power potential for civilian use, as it is the origin point of the Kunar River. ECG is set to assist in constructing a series of hydro electric dams, pipelines and irrigating structures in the region, as a means to produce electricity and remedy shortages of fresh water for the locals. Important to this latter goal, is the usage of pipelines which utilize pressure technology to extract underground water resources from the region's mountains, diverting such water resources into the water-scarce regions of Pakistan, allowing for enhanced agricultural productivity, lessening the impact of seasonal droughts and establishing a reliable source of drinking water. ECG is projected to undertake a similar project in the region of Baluchistan, in which underground water resources that traditionally feed the Sijistan Basin will be exploited for civilian purposes. The eastward diversion of water from the mountains which straddle the Afghan-Pakistani Border is said to be an innovative and cost-effective concept, that will help end Pakistan's dependence on singular water resources such as the Indus, damage unfair water monopolies in terms of Pakistani geographic disadvantages and strengthen national water security. |

      | The Egyptian Government has not played a role in these actions, as the ECG is a private venture, however the agreement has still complied with standard protocol, that Egyptian citizens will undertake a supreme advisory and directory role in the project. Giving the opportunity for Egyptian contractors and workers a new employment opportunity in Pakistan. In terms of the wider Pakistani-Egyptian working partnership, this new project only further strengthens the Abbasiyah ideology as a universal theory of development for all Islamic and non-first world societies, especially in the case of Pakistan. The countries economic isolation and neglect by the international community, especially western companies, has long been critiqued by Egyptian economists, who wish to strengthen Islamic economic interdependence, integration and cooperation. |

Japanese-Siamese Governments work out tense situation over Japanese Arms sale to Zhen Dynasty

After the situation between Japan & Siam exploded in tension as Siamese fears mounted over the situation. The Japanese dispatched a delegation to Siam to work out a solution. Well, thankfully that solution has appeared! The Foreign Minister of Japan released the following statement,

"Proud to announce that Japan has struck several deals with the Siamese Government & relaxed their fears over the situation with the Zhen Dynasty. Although the Type 10 deal with Siam was instead switched over to a Government Purchase for our rapidly expanding Imperial Army. The Siamese have joined the Japanese in several joint ventures concerning technological exploits & more! Once again, we have shown why Japan is a great ally to have on your team!"

Although at the time, the deals aspect was not elaborated upon. Later on, a formal document was released to the public which contained the full outline between Siam & Japan as seen here:

  • The Siamese-Japanese deal for the Type 10's will be scrapped. Instead, the Type 10's will be delivered to the Imperial Japanese Army as the buyer will switch to the Japanese Government

  • The Siamese Govt. will spend $740 million to contract companies from the Japan Railways Group to import 25 W7系 (Daburu-nana-kei or W7 Series Shinkansen) sets

  • Japanese Railways Group will also be contracted to upgrade Siamese rail lines & stations

  • Japan & Siam will conclude a Free Trade Agreement

The deal was praised by geopolitical analysts. Although the Arms Industry was thought to be set back, the switch by the Government to an order for the expanding Imperial Japanese Army gained wide approval in Nationalist Circles. Meanwhile, the contracts given to the Japanese Railway Groups was seen as a major boon for the Japanese Industry as they set out to work on the multi-million dollar deal. The Free Trade Agreement concluded between the countries was also seen as beneficial due to Japan being a large net importer of food. The elimination of tariffs could see Japanese imports of Siamese food rise as the country bides its time until further Hydroponics infrastructure is made. Overall the negotiations were met with wide approval by the Japanese Public as the Japanese & Siamese remained steadfast allies amidst the uncertainty over the earlier fears from Siam.

PRIME MINISTER BALŠA BOŽOVIĆ ADDRESSED NATION REGARDING US MILITARY PRESENCE

After yesterday's meeting with US Ambassador to Belgrade Anthony Godfrey which passed with no public statements released after it, numerous speculations about the possible request for total withdrawal of all US soldiers has started to circulate in public. As a response to that, Prime Minister Božović has scheduled the press conference for this morning, on which he stated following:

"Good morning,

Allow me to be brief over the matter. Yesterday, July 1st, I've had a pleasure to meet with Ambassador Godfrey and discuss an important subject for us - US military presence in Serbia. As you probably know, USA has two military bases - Camp Monteith and Camp Bondsteel - on territory of Kosovo, established after the Kumanovo agreement in 1999. Currently, these military bases operate at total level of 11 thousands US troops and posses equipment of which I am not going to speak publicly. In recent weeks, our public has started to debate the future of the mission, after two decades of successful providing the security and maintaining the law and order on Kosovo territory. Pro-opposition public started a campaign of active implying that our government is going to request total withdraw of the US troops, and although there were certain considerations in that direction, no such decision has ever been made.

It is true that we were up to certain point considering possible ending of the mission in terms of consequences, but that is a normal procedure for the government as we consider plenty of different scenarios on numerous subjects, so that our state can work as efficient as possible. Yesterday, I've presented results of our considerations to Ambassador Godfrey. In a honest and warm conversation we have reached a joint agreement on the matter, the one that I am now going to present you with. We have agreed to expand US military presence with additional 4 thousands of troops followed by proper equipment in the upcoming period. Procedural regulation of this expansion will be presented to the National Assembly before the end of the next week and we expect it to be passed, so that our NATO allies can station more troops and help us get more stable and peaceful Balkan.

It is true that this decision has been made in difficult time for us, with growing concerns over further militarization of our neighborhood. Serbia has never stood alone, we have our allies in NATO who are ready to protect not just us and our interests, but stability of the region as a whole. We are not going to escalate, I can assure you of that, but we must be well prepared for any scenario. As a Prime Minister of the government, I will continue to give my best to maintain the security of all our citizens and protect our country from any tensions. In that good spirit of optimism in terms of security, we are going to welcome additional US troops.

Thank you and God bless Serbia."

Today at 2nd july 2020.Forty factories are being started to be built by the Kingdom of Mongolia in Erdenet and Choigastan for the production of Construction materials and Chemical fertilisers and Chemicals which would be the first in the country to make this products and would produce an average of 150K tons of Construction materials, 50K litres of Chemicals and 150K tons of Natural fertilisers and will employ roughly 10K adult people aged between 18-20 and will help the country to improve its employment status by the next six months.

These factories would be likely be equipped with 2000's manual machinery as the rest of the 200 factories in the country are and will require an additional 2K people to be operated.

The Emperor has also announced to the mongolian people that the Kingdom of Mongolia's entire population would be totally be employed by 2030 and their Minimum wages would be atleast $5 a day and the 40 factories would take $80M dollars to make and 6k people are hired to do the job by the end of this year.

      Official Presidential Announcement

|ÉLYSÉE PALACE — Good morning. As we enter these challenging times I think it’s important to note that our country is strong, unbothered by political influence from other nations, and will always fight for democratic principles around the world. In recent weeks I have spoken with a number of our close friends and allies as I have had the chance to indulge in diplomatic missions with different countries. I’ve learned that we all share a common goal and a common sense of security when it comes to our home. It goes without saying that I’ve been very satisfied with the work the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has done up until recently for which I’ve been a critic to NATO Leadership in the past. In 2009 I brought France back into the military command of the NATO alliance because it was time for France to work more closely with its allies in the fight against terrorism, and we have worked decisively with our partners to just that in times past. However that light of unity and partnership has dwindled over the past few years, and with poor leadership it has proven to me and to the rest of the world that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization no longer upholds that same beacon of hope that it once did. It is with profound regret and sadness that I will order a decree that all French military officers and personnel to withdraw their post from all NATO military commands. This includes all NATO operations within the country and will have a 12 hour window to leave France voluntarily. We will continue to work with our neighbors in Europe on important issues that our continent faces now and forever, but only through the means of diplomacy moving forward, for which I am only pulling military presence from NATO, France is still determined to meet its goals with other NATO allies in a sense of diplomacy. Some may see this as a sign of weakness, an overreaction, or simply stupid on the French’s part. [Invitation for Yemen into the Pattiya Alliance]

Dhaka info

As the PA continues to expand its influence on the global stage, the Emirate of Ansarallah which was heavily back in the recent new millennium by one of PA's strongest allies, Russia, has seen, clearly by a vote between all members states, a valuable ally. The Emirate has already opened dialogues between the Zhen Dynasty and Russia, and with Egypt, who appears to also have interests in Asia, furthering the possibility of Yemen into entrance to the alliance. There is some speculation as to why Bangladesh is so interested in Yemen joining the alliance, one large reason of speculation, that even was confirmed by chief foreign minister, Ak Abul Momen, was Yemen's vast oil resources, as it becomes a growing trade power in the Southern hemisphere, Momen has expressed that the allowance by Yemen of Pattiya Alliance to quickly help develop and heal from the 2014 civil war will crucially allowed Yemen to truly become a juggernaut in that sense, many also speculate the strategic area Yemen is in, as it has been coined by Politician Ishmael Rahul, 'The second gate to Africa', referencing how geographically how the tip of Yemen nearly touches the Horn of Africa, and how many see it as a potential geopolitical connector of Asia and Africa, it is also to be considered a new potential challenge to  Saudi domination of the Arabian gulf, managing to defeat the Royal Saudi army, and possibly bettering relations with other Middle Eastern countries, and for Bangladesh, tying Russia and Bangladesh further by publicly supporting the emirate on a large scale, Yemen has been sent an invitation agreed upon by all PA participants, and many hope a new valuable member to the alliance.

The COVID-19 situation in Pulai is now under control, thanks to the hardworking frontline workers. Currently, confirmed cases of the virus has just reached 4500 cases, and the curve has flattened, with 3 confirmed cases nationwide today.

The reopening of the National Assembly went smoothly, with safety precautions being placed to ensure minimum contact between ministers. Ministers have been working at home for the past 3 months, with occasional visits to sites and supervision tasks.

In the House of Representative today, MPs discussed about opening Pulai's borders to Southeast Asian Nations of Seri sayam and Greater indonesia republic, to ensure regional economic activities to resume. Expansion of Siberian Natural Gas Pipelines into Mongolia
=====================================================================

A recently signed agreement between the Mongolian Government and Eurasian state-owned enterprise Gazprom will see the current system of pipelines across Siberia and Central Eurasia expanded southwards. The Mongolian Kingdom has stated clearly a desire to diversify its energy sources as it prepares to implement policies aimed at greatly increasing the small nation’s economic production. Since the opening of Ulaanbaatar Thermal Station 1 in 1937 coal has made up at least 90% of Mongolia’s electricity consumption. While this has been fairly convenient throughout much of history and Soviet support could previously be relied on to keep costs low, the increasing inefficiency of the aging plants and disproportionate environmental degradation has by now become impossible to ignore. As numerous plants reach the end of their service life it has been deemed necessary to find a more cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly solution than simply to build replacements.

Under the agreement Gazprom will expand the currently existing pipelines in the region to allow Mongolia to directly import natural gas from the Irkutsk gasfields at relatively low cost. This will be in line with similar deals struck with the Zhen Dynasty over the last decade and follows a general trend towards expanding natural gas infrastructure into Eurasia’s Southern neighbors. As the pipelines proposed here are a clear cut extension of these previous projects, the build time and cost is expected to be low. This will allow for the faster and smoother retirement of the increasingly inefficient coal power stations in Ulaanbaatar’s outer suburbs and the cities of Darkhan and Dornod. Gazprom has agreed to provide maintenance and administrative services for up to 2 years after the completion of construction, by which time Mongolian officials and technicians are expected to take over with Gazprom support.

Currently, Mongolia receives a 10-20% cut of gas delivered through pipelines between the UESS and Zhen across its territory. For obvious reasons, this will not apply to pipelines being laid for the express purpose of Mongolian use.

Additional Support For Mongolia
=====================================================================

The Chairman of the Eurasian Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, Dmitry Medvedev, has made a formal request for a meeting with his Mongolian counterparts. Given recent developments in the trade relations and military exchanges between the two countries, such a meeting is likely aimed at affirming the strong partnership between the UESS and Mongolia.

Mongolia’s persistent efforts to utilize its rich natural resources to reconfigure its economy into one focused on raw material exports have been somewhat successful, if viewed in financial terms without the wider political context. Unfortunately, this hardly tells the full story. The nation’s post-communist government has seen a significant level of corruption, factionalism and instability over the years. With bureaucrats and Royal Family members reluctant to hand over assets to foreign investors or the private sector, instead often using them as a direct and physical means by which to assert their power. This has led to inconsistent foreign interest in the market, as many potential investors are uncertain of the safety of their funds. While the situation has markedly improved over the years, the underlying causes have not disappeared.

As such, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet has organized a small taskforce from the Union Trade and Industry Ministry and the Union Energy Ministry to suggest and potentially oversee certain reforms in the Mongolian Government. The Mongolian Government has already been made aware of the taskforce and it currently awaits the Emperor’s approval. Likely roles and policies will be suggested to the Mongolian leadership at the planned summit in Ulaanbaatar. The reforms suggested may include: the removal of partisan or political influences from state-owned companies and ministries, the increasing of the private sector share of the economy, strengthening financial law to protect investors and removing unnecessary legal barriers to private sector involvement. These are highly similar to those undertaken in the Eurasian energy sector during the immediate post-communist era, however, they will likely not be directly applicable to the Mongolian socio-political environment and will therefore necessitate some level of direct and ongoing coordination with Mongolian officials.

More Lucrative Offers
=====================================================================

In addition to the new pipelines, the Mongolian Government and the Mongolyn Alt Mining Corporation (MAK) have suggested a joint venture with the Eurasian Government and certain corporations in a new export-focused coal mine in the largely untouched region North-West of Ulaanbaatar. At this stage only preliminary exploration has been conducted, however several geologists have been enthusiastic about recent findings.

The eventual opening of such a mine in the region would greatly improve the local economy and allow many nomadic groups in the region the chance to settle with stable employment. Such a mine is not expected to add anything especially new to the existing market, instead simply being an expansion of currently existing mining schemes. All the same, the market for coal is constantly expanding, even with COVID-19 making prices contract.

Hopefully, it could also be the first mine to open under the newly proposed Eurasian-backed reform program. Providing a trial run of the financial impacts of new systems and policies. The new endeavor, though not large by any means, will be both symbolically and economically significant for the relationship between Eurasia and Mongolia. There are many within the Eurasian Supreme Soviet who are most definitely praying it succeeds.

            Defend Australia - Pt. 2
$270bn put aside to defend Australia over the next 10 years
            July 3rd

President Morrison has begun a more aggressive defence strategy to protect Australia and it's national interests in the wake of 'a growingly hostile, poorer, more dangerous post-COVID world.' Morrison claims that the world has the potential to reach tension levels not seen since the second world war after the rapid expansion of TPA and PA, the increasing violence in the Middle East and Africa, and tensions in Europe and the Americas.

Morrison also announced a commitment to spend $270 billion over the next decade on defence capabilities. This will include more potent strike weapons, cyber capabilities and a high-tech underwater surveillance system. The ADF is expected to increase by 800 people, comprising of 650 extra personnel for the Navy, 100 for the Air Force, and 50 for the Army.

According to Defence's 2019-20 Budget Statement, the ADF was estimated to grow to 60,090 by this year, with 16,272 full-time public service staff. Its budget was expected to grow to 2 per cent of Australia's gross domestic product by 2020-21, "equating to approximately $200 billion in Australia's defence capability over 10 years", making the new announcement an increase of $70 billion to the department.

Part of this purchase includes 300 AGM-158C LRASM (Long Range Anti-Ship Missile). These American stealth anti-ship missiles will be able to lock onto and destroy a moving vessel from more than 200 nautical miles away, and will be a 'vital part' of Australia's vigorous defence program.

This plan will also see a substancial amount invested into protecting Australia against cyber attacks and from political espionage after 10 Australian politicans were dismissed from Government for corruption and international links. President Morrison stated that Australia is entering times of 'unprecedented trouble,' and despite Australia opening up economically and politically, it is important that the nation maintains strong control of it's sovereignty in all meanings of the world.
