The niceties of normal moral constraints wrote:Yeah, that's the thing. Cooked chickpeas are something like 60% water by mass, so you're either putting a ton of water in, or taking a ton out. Even without chickpeas, I managed to reduce the tomato sauce too much, and ended up slightly undercooking the lasagna sheets. Was still plenty edible, but had the distinct starchy not-enough-water taste.

Yeah thats a pain, especially with an electric oven. Have you tried covering the dish until the last 10 15 mins in the oven and/or having a small baking tin half filled with water in the oven at the same time?

I did cover it for 20, then about 5 minutes retrieving all the mozarella off the aluminum foil ( :| ), and then 10 minutes uncovered. Come to think of it, I used "super firm" tofu this time, so that might have been a factor too.

(And I had to scour all the land for any nutritional yeast, too. Apparently in a college town right around U.S. Thanksgiving, there's critical shortages as everyone and their ethically raised artisinal mothers makes Mac 'n "Cheese" by the metric ton. Last time I made Mac n' "Cheese," I calculated that each serving had something like 260% DV of B12 too.)

Wicked cool.

I've heard Moracchioli's stuff before and love his playful style. His cover of Never Gonna Give You Up makes the song listenable.

"In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise
As no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
And the sun
In my disgrace

Boiling heat
Summer stench
'Neath the black
The sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I'll hear you
Scream again

Black hole sun
Won't you come
And wash away the rain?
Black hole sun
Won't you come?
Won't you come?

Stuttering
Cold and damp
Steal the warm wind
Tired friend
Times are gone
For honest men
And sometimes
Far too long
For snakes

In my shoes
A walking sleep
And my youth
I pray to keep
Heaven send
Hell away
No one sings
Like you anymore

(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)
Won't you come?
(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)
Won't you come?
(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)
Won't you come?
(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)

Hang my head
Drown my fear
'Til you all just disappear

(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)
Won't you come?
(Black hole sun,
Black hole sun)
Won't you come?
(Black hole sun,

It's a pretty fun song, a better story, and an even better concept.

Basically, an exquisite corpse is a poetry exercise where one poet writes a verse, and another poet writes the next one. It gets passed further along, but each subsequent poet is only given the last verse. It's basically a poetry amalgamation. Then, the original poet takes all the verses, reads them out, and concludes it. It was later adapted into a drawing game, and there's also a short movie that was made by four directors this way.

You may notice the SC thing at vote is a Condemnation of a region that already has one, this is the replace part of a repeal & replace of the original to actually explain what the heck Macedon what was doing way back when.

I know this makes me a terrible person but with some exceptions (like it's badly written, has no content, is an obvious self commend or a blatant hack piece) I tend to vote for condemnations and commendations because I like the idea of more shiny badges.

Hunting provides governments with a lot of revenue(the US for example makes $1.65 billion from permits and licencing) Because this revenue is dependent on sustaining the population of the animals being hunted governments are incentivised to manage wildlife responsibly, protect and restore their habitats and protect wildlife from poachers. That's not counting the billion spent on guides, reserves and equipment, which produces entire industries with a vested interest in conservation, or the multitude of conservation organisations funded by hunters, who after all also have a vested interest in their protection.

Examples of success can be seen in the Cape buffalo, whitetail deer, wild turkey, bighorn sheep and the southern white rhino.

Canaltia wrote:
That's a pretty valid point. In addition, I know people who are hunters (like 5% of western Canadians hunt regularly), and they are some of the most eco-friendly people I know. By getting out there and hunting (for food, I might add. Deer meat it actually pretty good), they develop an understanding and appreciation of nature, and them killing one deer a month max isn't going to do too much to the environment. Also, there's all of the legalities surrounding hunting in a country without constitutionally protected gun rights, so people who want to kill for the sake of it usually aren't able to get a hunting permit.

However, in Canada, endangered species are not allowed to be hunted, as the massive tourism industry in the Rockies is enough incentive to keep them alive. There's also the fact that 10.5% of Canada's land is protected, bringing more restrictions on hunting with it. These areas have a lot of endangered species living on them (especially the Manitoba wetlands), so it's often more trouble than it's worth to try to hunt there. On top of that, 88% of Canada is inhabitable by people, so there should be enough room for hunters and endangered species to coexist.

Canada's biggest problem is, ironically, the other 95% who aren't hunters, as they are the ones polluting the environment, cutting down the unprotected forests, and mining the north with unsustainable business practice. I think Canada needs more restrictions on corporate en devours in the wilderness, but we have the right amount of restriction on hunters. I've thought about picking it up, but I just don't have the time or resources.

Well, I'd certainly agree that things would be better if those who spend time out in the wilderness had more say in how things were run. And I'm never going to agree with Areulder about the potential for free market incentives to bring about good outcomes, so I'll pass over that. I would point out that hunting is unlike predation by any other species because whereas other species take the weakest specimens human hunters tend to want the prime ones.

I think there might be an element of cultural difference here, as illustrated by this minor international misunderstanding:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-45967845

Speaking to BBC Scotland's John Beattie programme, Mr Russell insisted that Ms Switlyk's goat hunting was worse than the hunting of red deer, which he said was "very firmly regulated" and "you don't see people glorifying in it very often."

The Brexit secretary added: "The pictures are horrific. Obviously deer culling and deer stalking is established on the island and it's a necessary thing to do considering the lack of control of deer numbers.

"But to see people in camouflage with highly powered sniper rifles rejoicing at the killing of a goat, let alone a ram, is simply unacceptable.

"The vast majority of people would just not regard this as something that should be happening in their country.

"There has been something of an outcry already about it and as a local MSP I have now raised it with the environment minister because I think it's really undesirable and unpleasant."

Mr Russell said it was not clear whether anything could be done to stop goat hunting from happening, but he said he had a duty to raise it as "this isn't 21st Century Scotland. This isn't 21st Century Islay".

I guess hunting in Canada and the US is also more of a democratic activity and lacks the association with the aristocracy it retains in Britain. The ban here on hunting foxes with hounds was absolute class war by proxy, a consolation prize thrown by the centrist Blair government to its voters on the left. Hunting for food and ecological management is a complicated question (though if it was up to me I'd control Scottish deer populations by reintroducing wolves, no doubt causing farmers and crofters to come after me with torches and pitchforks and thereby demonstrating the extent to which agri-business now dictates environmental policy). I confess I struggle to understand the mindset whose response to a magnificent animal is to want to shoot it.

So at "face value" all this message does is confirm that cards are not permanently off the table and that they "are working on it". Thx for pointing out the update nonetheless!!!

From an evolutionary standpoint that's sort of true, though it's complicated by the fact that hunters are selecting animals that have already passed their genes on. Thing is the "prime ones" aren't just those with the best genes. They're older males with large territories, many rivals, and which have almost certainly bred for several seasons. From a standpoint of maximizing population growth and minimizing inbreeding these are the individuals the ecosystem can most afford to lose.
