FPTP is doing no good, it only leads to two major parties in the landscape. For congress, MMP or a direct vote would be nice. For the presidency, Alternative Voting would be a solution

Yes, FPTP is kak, a better option would be just for direct votes. If a person votes, then they have one vote. If 10 million people vote for one person, then that person has 10 million votes. Und so weiter, und so weiter. Having a candidate win whilst having a minority of public votes is wrong and an insult to democracy

If it would be replaced by something better, I'm sure that the US will have many different parties, each one covering a certain demographic, like in Europe
if all those parties would run in a presidential election, no candidate would be able to win a majority. That's why I suggest ranked-choice voting

Alternative vote with a threshold slightly higher than 50% is probably the best way to elect a President. We all know why FPTP is trash but so is a two round election. Take Peru, for example.

Also both 2016 and 2021 were anti-Fujimori elections. She literally only differed by .01% in the two.

This thus leads to my conclusion that a ranked (alternate) choice voting system with a threshold slightly above 50% would be the best to both encourage multiple candidates without the downsides of the round system.

Problem is not so much FPTP or alternative votes, it is the presidential system existing in the first place :P
