With last year's NS Christmas outage, I had afterwards received telegrams looking forward to this years sleigh ride. Unfortunately in one case, both the sender and the region have since CTE'd so I don't get to make it up to them this year.

The Founding of Equilism: January 14, 2004
How Equilism came to be.
On January 13th 2004, through sheer coincidence, a 19 year old International Studies student and Dutchman named Max, of Russian (mother) and Iraqi (father) decent, stumbled upon the NationStates website. He had no idea what exactly it was except that it had to do with politics, and that he was interested. So he created a nation, naming it Equility (as Equality was taken) for all the people in his nation would be equal.
After briefly checking out 10000 Islands, Equility decided he wanted a region of his own to build up and he Founded Equilism. Reading through the NS FAQ, he came upon the bit that explained invaders and immediately knew neither he nor Equilism were going to be involved with that.
Immigration into Equilism began almost immediately as Equility recruited nations into the region to see how that would go, and created a few puppets to place in the region. It was also in this same first week that Equility found out about A.L.L. (Allied Liberation League) and ADN (Alliance Defense Network). Reading up on what these organizations did, fighting invaders (aka raiders), he knew he wanted Equilism to join them.
He waited another week so the region could grow a little bigger and then, with about 20 nations present, Equilism applied to the A.L.L. and was accepted unanimously. Equility was soon elected as Co-Chairman of A.L.L., with 
Free4All (aka Ballotonia, now an NS admin) as Chairman. Equilism then joined ADN in February. Our first signed and ratified bilateral interregional treaties were with Belgium and Nederland. Early Equilism had a relatively large Dutch contingent of players. Including Advisor, Commander, and eventually Co-Founder Ostendt of Belgium and the GLA. Ostendt advised and trained Equilism in NS military and intelligence along with the rest of GLA. P-topia was also an early advisor for Equilism.

The first Equilism government was formed by Equility while at the same time he lead the first Constitutional Convention on our first offsite forum, which was on Proboards.
Westwind was founded in The West Pacific on January 26, 2004, and a day later joined Equilism, responding to a recruitment telegram from Equility. I lurked the forums at first and read the threads on the Constitutional convention, then created a forum account after another telegram from Equility.

Military Minister: Tomika
Intelligence Minister: Anarchovia

Environment, Human Rights and Social Affairs Minister: Swamp-land
Immigration Minister: Daradah
- The Environment, Human Rights and Social Affairs Minister position was eliminated in the first Constitution, as it had no role to play in the mechanics of NationStates. But I personally enjoyed that we had Swampland in charge of the Environment.
- Sadly, Rhonanvin was upset that he lost the first election for Vice-President in our first elections, and went inactive. However, about two years later he visited the forums to let us know he'd had health problems that had landed him in the hospital for some time.
- Tomika won the first election for Prime Minister/Delegate, but soon resigned to focus his time on the Military. Tomika renamed the Equilism Militiary the E-Army, and along with Westwind wrote the first Military and Civilian Awards law, established the first ranking systems, and divided the military into the Thunder and Lightning Platoons. By late 2004 the E-Army was ranked as the 3rd largest in NationStates. Tomika was also our first Forum Administrator, first on the Proboards forums, then on the phpBBS forums that followed. He also designed our early graphics and logos.
- Anarchovia quickly went inactive, and I have no recollection of their activity. They were soon replaced by Ellandar, who was then soon replaced by Westwind.
- And I have to say much the same for Le peoples francephone. They were active in the Constitutional convention, but not post-convention. Westwind was appointed Interior Minister in the first Constitutional government as the position was vacant.
- Daradah did the quiet and thankless work of recruitment along with Equility's efforts. Daradah and I coordinated recuritment efforts between the Interior and Immigration Ministries, and established recruitment teams and schedules. After a couple terms in office, Daradah left Equilism and went on to be active for a number of years in other regions.
- Equility was elected President in the first Elections, retaining his self-appointed position for two terms before he choose not to run for re-election, establishing a tradition of two-terms in office for the First Commonwealth government. In the summer of 2004 when Equility went on vacation, he gave Ostendt and Westwind access to his nation and named them both 'Co-Founders'.
- Later in 2004, Ostendt resigned as an E-Army Commander and Co-Founder, as he 'retired' from NS Meta Gameplay, while continuing to be active in-game for many years in both Equilism and Belgium.

- In the summer of 2005, Equility went on vacation, leaving his nation in the control of Co-Founder Westwind. Equility did not return.
- Since 2005, Equility has been maintained by Founders/Governors Westwind, 
Chaucerin, 
Naivetry, and 
Whamabama.
