I know I know, you don't have a job yet and it's nearly impossible to get a job now because you 'stole' a loaf of bread to feed yourself! But don't worry yet! It's only $50 a month so you better get to it!

You should. I did the same with my nation to make everything much more colorful and fun. I think my favorite part is how I made an android, magical girl, and Valkyria as triplets.
The interesting thing is that there are two contradictory stereotypes about U.S. jails I always hear. One is what you said yet another is poor people(usually homeless) purposely committing a misdemeanor crime to go to jail and get free food/care. So which is it?
People wouldn't choose them... That'd be too smart. Might jusT be my cynical mind speaking, but they wouldn't.

Both are true. People will usually commit theft under $5,000 and get sent to a 'luxury' prison for 6 months, these guys usually start doing their crimes early to mid autumn.
What's dumb, here in Alberta we have a medical server system so my medical files can be accessed anywhere in the province by any registered medical staff. BUT, in order to transfer my medical files to my new doctor I had to pay $130 to get it to him! WE have a system in place so that I don't need to transfer my files and yet I still had to do so and pay them money... It's so stupid...
That really is very, very dumb... Borderline extortion, even.
So I found this interesting game called Gal*Gun : Double Peace , which just launched on Steam. Apparently, it's an on-rails shooter featuring....love-struck anime girls as the enemy. It's um...interesting to say the least. Kinda reminds me of

There are a LOT of stereotypes about American prisons and crime, and unfortunately a lot of them are true. I could go into a rant about prison reform, but I'm just jaded with how I view life right now.
Also, that Canadian excuse for extortion really should be checked out. Isn't this the same country that payed more money to investigate irregular spending of MPs than said MPs actually used for shady business? Ah well. Canada is nothing if not dedicated.
In the UK you can get fined if you do not register to vote when 18 years old without good reason, so its quite compulsory here too.

That doesn't really help with how the nation appears at first glance, sure, but it's still a way to control the economy without issues! And every other aspect of the nation, for that matter...

What the others said. A female Norse warrior that leads fallen warriors to Valhalla. The game Valkyria Chronicles draws allusions from this. With females with Valkyrur blood being Valkyria and makes them way overpowered. Which also matches the triplets Selvaria(Valkyria), Reinforce(magical girl), KOS-MOS(android) perfectly because they are all over powered females but in different ways.
