Aaaand everyone else is talking about roaches after I've been out at the Bands of America competition. (Protip: A sousaphone is a hard thing to march with.)

What's a sousaphone?

Are you bloody KI-- (shh-hhh-hhhh, calm down)
It's the tuba that people march with--the sort that wraps around one's shoulders. (As opposed to a contrabass horn, which is much more like an actual concert tuba and is carried over one shoulder. I can only make a speculation, but it would be leagues less comfortable--the expense supposedly paid for superior sound.)
Consider this a PSA.

I think you meant yards, Girls.

Tiltpa, don't they all play in the same register?

Castigonia wrote:What's a sousaphone?

Somebody's derivation of a Tuba and named it after John Philip Sousa.

Hello all. *waves*

They do, but I'm deadly picky on what you call which! And knowing is half the battle!
Oh hai, Zoe!

My apologies, I'm not good with naming instruments, I probably would have just called it a tuba.

Writing lyrics is more up my alley

ZOE!!! Hey girl, how've you been?

What about their timber (sound). Is it the same?

Castigonia wrote:Writing lyrics is more up my alley

I think that two of the greatest lyricists where W. S. Gilbert and Ira Gershwin. Both had a way with words and language.

:o OMG I heard, on one of the RMB's that Homestuck ended. What will Tiltpa do now?

The Velvetine Rabbit wrote:ZOE!!! Hey girl, how've you been?

Been really busy IRL. I might be able to become active here again. And before you say anything, I know it's been years.

We're in the same boat.

Concert is best but you can't bloody march with it, Contra is closest to concert, Sousa is worst but by far most convenient.

Bloody finish it after Marching Band is done and I have A. free time and B. a legit laptop instead of a Wii U Gamepad that I mostly use for accessing NA!

Somebody had a harsh day...

Ugh. I really hate college right now.

It's good to see you posting again, Zoe. I hope that you can stay active for awhile.

I really don't know much about the brass instruments. I've seen Bass Bugles in Drum & Bugle Corps, are they the same register. They remind me of Trombones for some reason.

IDK, Cast. There were bad times in Uni, but on the whole, it was the best time of my life, thus far.

Been there, done that, Zoe, and still doing it. :(

Castigonia wrote:Ugh. I really hate college right now.

What's there to hate about Uni? Good times. *nods*

Nah, just me emphasising stuff.

Bass...or Contrabass?

And us without a paddle to row with. :(

Are we doing anything constructive with this region or just hanging on?

I think we are all just chilling out and posting when we have time after work and stuff...

So sorry, but RANT TIME: I hate my college because not only do I have a mountain of work, but the administration does not listen to the students. They just purchased a 'monument': a $35,000 pile or rocks, $20,000 of which was paid for by students without any input from students. Also my college has a history of awful financial moves, which has left most of the student body extremely pissed off. The rocks were the breaking point and now there is a protest on Friday. Also multiple professors are quitting due to lowered pay.

Meanwhile, the University spent over $5,000,000 on reviving a football program that has been gone since 1959. And the football team sucks. And, they raised tuition. Again.

woooow
Pardon my severely contracted French, but WTF? I would likely make better financial decisions than that, and I seem to be literally younger than all of you, let alone whoever's in charge of this crap! You guys, bets off, would do better than me, don't take that the wrong way, but even my little sister not only could but would be the better choice given her and whoever's leading aaaall this!
And seriously, ROCKS?! ROCKS!! There are a billion better things one could do!

This ^ Though I have plans...TBA when I have more time to accomplish them.

Castigonia wrote:So sorry, but RANT TIME:...

What you are saying is nothing new. What your are seeing is macro demonstration of governmental administration. Just take a look at what every national and local government is doing and you see the same thing...tax and spend. You do know that someone's friend or relation made money on the "rocks"

Castigonia wrote:So sorry, but RANT TIME:...

Don't even get me started on this topic. Bloody David Camoron well and truly stuck it to us.

Yep. Rocks. There's even a satirical Facebook page for them, and it's gotten almost 700 likes in under a week. And there is going to be a huge protest tomorrow with the news and everything. We are hoping a couple hundred people show up (out of 2,300 total students). We only have 40 confirmed though :/

It's not just about the rocks though. There are about a thousand more things that the administration has to answer for, including years of incompetence, cover-ups, bad spending, academic issues, and so on. And we will make them answer, whether tomorrow or in the spring. I'm getting a group together to begin organizing something big.
