We could talk about that, or we could also talk about the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Always a good debate topic especially with things as hostile as they are right now. Also I'm not sure how much international media attention it has gotten, but we could discuss the escalating crisis at the US-Mexico border.

Skoalstraightius

Greetings mates, I'm glad to officially join this region. I would be welcome to join any of the debate topics posted.

Also, I believe I will be joining the UCS.

P.S. This Cup Final is killing me.

I think it's killing everybody.

Well I think the border crisis is too much of a one sided debate and it has gotten a lot of publicity... im all for supporting the Israel one

I'm not sure if I agree that the border crisis is one sided, but I do think that the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is the best topic. It always makes for a passionate debate.

I had made clear to my friends that I thought Germany was going to win it beforehand, but then when the match went on it was clear that both teams had a pretty good chance, I'm just happy I won that bet in the end :P

Welcome to our region as well, I'm sure you'll like it here.

Also, this border crisis thing hasn't received any coverage in the UK media, or at least any that I've seen, would someone be able to explain it?

I'd start by watching this NBC video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USdsfS2RcNc) and this Euro News video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx2ftLwatv8) which both summarize the crisis.

The issue then escalated when President Obama was pictured playing pool and drinking beer in Colorado, yet he claimed to be too busy to visit the border despite requests from both Republicans and Democrats for him to do so. I was pulling for Argentina, but Germany is definitely a worthy champion.

Well it looks as if the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict has won the poll and will be our next "Topic of Discussion". Since it was proposed by Rossstan, I think it's only fair that they have the first word of the discussion.

i don't think we should have a speaking order because if we do this will take forever to say even the opening generalizations...

Agreed.

I agree that we shouldn't have a speaking order, but I think that the person who proposed the topic should be the one to make the opening statement.

well we will be waiting a long time

Apparently so. It's been long enough. Anyone can start.

I blame israel for what is currently happening for not be grown up and dealing with it the right way

You mean just letting Gaza keep firing missiles at Israel?

i think it needs to be dealt with better than like a child

Le cruise wrote:i think it needs to be dealt with better than like a child

On the line of the child metaphor, I think of it as two children- Hamas' Gaza and Israel. Gaza is an annoying child that continuously is poking Israel, trying to piss him off. Israel keeps warning him to stop, and says to Gaza that "if you poke me one more time, you'll be sorry." So, after a few moments of attempted peace, Gaza pokes Israel one more time. Sighing, Israel turns around, and punches Gaza dead in the face. Gaza falls to the ground dizzy, and after a few minutes to recover, gets up and begins poking Israel again.
Gaza started this conflict, and was attacking Israel. Now, Israel is retaliating. I support negotiations between the two sides, but not when either side is being attacked. If it was Israel attacking Gaza first, Gaza should attack in return.

How would you deal with it "the right way"?

Afro-west india

I say that both Israel and Palestine are at fault. Instead of trying to work towards peace, there always trying to kill each other.

Skoalstraightius

Israel attempted peace talks, HG wouldn't comply. I'm sure the terms would have been one-sided, but a complete lack of interest is a slap in the face.

With Israel threatening to move in with more ground forces this could get even bloodier.

HG should offer up terms for peace immediately in my mind.

Skoalstraightius wrote:HG should offer up terms for peace immediately in my mind.

Hamas should offer terms for peace, but they never will because peace isn't their goal. They are committed to using terrorism and violence in order in order to destroy Israel.
