Aldar set down the phone for a single moment and heaved a sigh of relief. His prayers to the gods were answered. It may not have been exactly what he was hoping for, but it was more than he expected, and for that, he was eternally grateful to Reichskanzler Plame. The Roman could have easily hung up the phone right then and there, and refused any form of aid. They had all the right. The Pjågstårni had not even had the decency to send a missive of regret, when the Roman ambassadorial staff were killed in the 281 Bombing of Nyår Felkejøvik. It was chalked up to ‘sh*t happens,’ and they moved on. But, now, there was a real chance to make amends between the two countries, and Aldar didn’t want to destroy it.

“Mr. Reichskanzler, I cannot thank you enough. I was worried I was crossing the line. And perhaps I still am. But, I suppose now is not the time to be worried about such matters. I can send a detailed report of the recent on-goings of Felkesjud to your office. In the meantime, is there anything Felkesjud can do to return the favour to the United Roman Reich?” Prime Minister Olssen was willing to offer anything in compensation, be it economical, technological, or even militarily in kind. He was worried about what his rivals would make of it, and how they would use it against him. But fear was not going to stay his hand or his voice now.

Erik Zdravo was sleeping when the order was given.

“Wake up, comrade Erik, we are for war!” The man shaking him was Sasha, a fellow Brasod, the only other one in their regiment. Erik leapt out of his bunk, and began preparing for deployment.

After weeks of debate in the newly-formed National Assembly of Sestanma, it had been decided just that night to invade parts of the Tsarlok territories from the exclave of Kolonija Slobodna Nacija. Erik and Sasha, members of the 3rd Reserve Riflery Regiment, located on the frontier of the territory.

Erik and Sasha, along with the 28 other member of their platoon, were packing for a long-term military expedition - which meant everything had to be packed.

Once they had packed their bags, they, along with other members of their platoon, boarded a truck bound for the frontline, leaving the safety of Point Ost, heading towards the wild deserts of the Tsarlok.

The soldiers sat in silence as they drew ever nearer to the frontier. For many, it was surreal. Hard to believe. Only a week ago they had been home with families, and now they drove to what would be for some of them, their deaths.

Moreover, the decision had been made only hours prior, meaning that even the base commander had no idea what to expect until just then.

The truck stopped right as the twin novas of Lerodas began to rise over the horizon. Soldiers departed the truck to find themselves in a shallow depression of the desert, just deep enough to hide their vehicles. Several officers also departed, and began issuing orders to the soldiers, of whom there were about 150 in total. Erik and Sasha were put to work constructing several black heat-resistant tents for their regiment.

An hour later, the order went out for the majority of the soldiers to sleep. Command had decided to move only at night, when it was not so hot in the desert. So Erik lay down to an uncomfortable rest in the tiny tent.

Erik awoke to orders of his CO to pack up and get moving. Further commands rang across the makeshift camp like the lashes of a whip. Erik began to pack his few belongings, before moving to his tent, which he quickly folded up.

Erik quickly moved to his regiment’s transport, stowed his tent, and climbed aboard. Just a few minutes after he boarded, the truck began moving again, on to the next campsite.

Behind them, the sandy depression lay abandoned, with naught but footprints to show any evidence of life.

Pro tip: Do not seek to join an alliance on your first day. Alliances are serious commitments for a nation and something that will have political and diplomatic consequenses if one later abandons the alliance. As a new player one should wait with joining an alliance until one knows the players that are in them. An alliance that seems nice at first might not be the best alliance for you once you get to know people.

Yes, join the GTF in a one-night stand, and then realize what a horrible mistake you've committed yourself to later on, like most of it's members!
. . . or you could join the NDA and be happy for eternity! You'll even get a complimentary Valyrian invasion!

Gustavus was not a politician in the ordinary sense of the word. He was raised, and always had been throughout his working career, a bureaucrat. But a lifetime of office meetings had led him to develop a keen sense for the voices of the people he worked with. And if this most particular call had been any ordinary board meeting things were now as to say tipping in Gustavus favour. But this auspicious call was no such thing as an ordinary meeting. Far greater things were being set in motion here and the Reichskanzler could feel it.

He smiled when he spoke. He had been told that by doing so people on the opposing side of a phone call would be able to hear that a person was smiling. “Prime Minister Aldar I can hear that your thanks are heartfelt. Which I why I believe that things are as you said; now is not the time to be worried about such matters.” Gustavus repositioned his feets as he watched out from his window out over the cityscape. “I’m not such a man that I will extort a man in need for my own favour. Whatever is a reasonable cost for this whole affair is something that I’m convinced we’ll be able to work out once we’re both in a position to negotiate such.”

There was a short pause. “I will have it arranged so that our new diplomatic staff is sent over as soon as possible, Mr. Prime Minister. I’m sure that whatever information you’re able to send over to my office will be of great value to me and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. And I will contact the Department of Foreign Field Support to get them working on pulling off this little stunt of ours. I wish herr Prime Minister a most delightful day.”

As he said it he pressed a series of buttons on his communication device on the table. Somewhere in the depths of the Reichskanzlei building an alarm would have started sounding. Signaling that the Head of the Roman State was summoning for a talk.
