The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 11.933 billion Elves are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Féerique. The average income tax rate is 95.6%.

The frighteningly efficient Elvish economy, worth a remarkable 1,913 trillion elfmarks a year, is quite specialized and mostly made up of the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology and Book Publishing. Black market activity is rampant. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 160,364 elfmarks, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Young and brooding teens are welcomed with open arms to the Dogwarts School of Strangeness and Sorcery, asking 'a penny for your thoughts?' draws law enforcement response, soldiers' positions are given away by the glint of their bayonets, and citizens praise the weeds that overwhelm their narrow vegetable realm. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Elfland's national animal is the wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Elvish paganism.
