This day is a celebration and a time of remembrance for the sacrifices of the workers.
Workers gave us the 8 hour workday, workers built the middle class. They bleed for their fellow brothers and sister just so that their children and their friends could earn better, could live better and be treated as human beings, not as cogs in machines.
The worker died for us, countless workers died in peaceful protests. Beaten and tortured by the forces of capital they were and are still undeterred.

Whether it be a paper mill worker in Boston getting mauled by the police, whether it be a coal miner in Blair mountain getting shot by mercenaries and police recruited by the local coal baron, whether it be the steel mill worker in the Ruhr striking and opposing the Nazis and their hateful agenda, whether it be a worker in Poland protesting against a foreign authoritarian regime secretly controlling it since the end of the 2nd world war. The agenda of workers is always an agenda for equality, for progress and liberty. The forces of capital hate the workers and divide them and try to break them apart. They divide the workers in the name of religion, gender, sex, race, nationality. They do it so that the proletariat can remain divided and weak. It is the job of the workers and the lower class to organise and fight! Labour has allowed the masses to be recognised as humans, labour spooked the vultures of society to give them healthcare and an equitable share of wealth they deserve. It is a time of remembrance and unity.
We have a long way to go in fulfilling the goal proclaimed in the 6th conference of the 2nd Internationale- namely the legal establishment of the 8 hour workday, for the fulfillment of the class demands of the proletariat and universal peace.
