Can we talk about the current WA vote? What a silly proposal.

Repeal Reproductive Freedoms
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal
Resolution: GA#286
Proposed by: Sciongrad

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #286: Reproductive Freedoms (Category: Human Rights; Strength: Significant) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: The General Assembly,

Affirming its recognition of reproductive rights and its responsibility to protect these rights,

Mindful, however, that there are reasonable and relevant interests in reducing abortions in certain circumstances that are prohibited by GAR#286 absolutely,

Regretting that GAR#286 prevents meaningful and necessary action against sex-selective abortion - a practice that often leads to crippling imbalances in gender demographics and exacerbates social gender inequality - undermining its enduring commitment to promoting social equality,

Understanding that the notion of terminating pregnancies up until the infant is birthed, which is permitted by GAR#286, poses a serious and legitimate ethical concern to many member nations,

Regarding GAR#286 as an immature and reckless exercise of World Assembly authority that does not reflect the legitimate underpinnings behind the right to reproductive choice,

Believing that such a radical approach to an issue as sensitive and divisive as reproductive choice is inconsistent with its extant commitment towards international cooperation,

Desiring a more moderate and refined approach to reproductive rights,

Hereby repeals GAR#286, "Reproductive Freedoms."

Votes For: 2,177 (18%)

Votes Against: 10,094 (82%)

Voting Ends: in 2 days 11 hours

Amongst Gay residents, voting is currently 1-25 (96% Against).

BearNation: AGAINST

It's not just silly, it's reactionary: the same old tired crap, which IRL, usually comes from ultraconservative old white men seeking to subjugate the reproductive and sexual freedom of women. This is one of those lines in the sand for civil rights; if they could pass this, they'd be coming after our sexual rights (again).

Fortunately, the large consensus of WA voters and nations and the VAST majority of Gay's voters see through this ploy and are all going to insure this particular resolution goes down in flames. This is not always the case, particularly regarding repeals, which is why I wish more people would vote on WA issues in our forum. For months now, there have been usually only 1-2 votes on WA stances for the region and it is this vote that Constitutionally determines how I cast my 60-odd votes at the WA. As of 2015, EVERY individual player in Gay has had the ability to vote in the WA subforum. I don't know of any other region in NS that has tried this radical experiment in democracy. Unfortunately, I have to say thus far that it is a failure. We had a larger number of gross votes and a vastly higher participation rate when it was restricted to WA nations. I suspect much of this is due to our tremendous growth among teenagers and young adults, who as a group seem less inclined to vote IRL as well as here. Expect this ability to be returned to just WA nations for 2016 and beyond.

This is a wake-up call to WA nations as well. There are 70-odd WA nations in Gay and usually less than half vote at the WA on various issues. If even the 25 or so who vote at the WA would also vote on our forum, it would be a vast improvement over what we have now. You surrender your (legitimate) rights to complain about votes on NS and the government generally IRL when you don't vote.

For those of us in the USA, in less than a year we will choose our next president. The contrasts between the two parties couldn't be more stark. The Democrats are poised to be the first major party to nominate a woman at the head of their party's ticket and have a rational agenda on domestic, foreign, environmental, healthcare, and other policies. It's not clear at this point who the GOP nominee will be, but the longstanding frontrunner has advocated rolling back Obamacare, restricting immigration, deporting millions of illegal immigrants, keeping "certain" mosques under surveillance, and other fear-based, reactionary policies. I anticipate that if he is elected, the 8-year nightmare we had under GWB will seem like a walk in the park.

VOTE! Here as well as IRL!

I REALLY wish more people would post their pictures on the forum! Only a relative few of us have done so. It's not like someone in Greenland is setting himself up to be stalked by someone from the Netherlands! :D In the entire history of Gay, no one has ever said anything negative about one of those pictures. So take a few minutes and show us what you look like!

I could do that. But, I'm not sure i want to. Lol

So today Jazz Band performed for a bunch of people with Down Syndrome and they were all smiling, clapping, and singing and oh dear I was crying because I just wanted to abduct one of them and take them home.

I promise, I'm not weird.

I don't think that's weird, my mother works at a Special School and every time she takes me there for a special event, I feel like crying because some people give them such a hard time and the fact that they're happy makes me want to hug them all... well not the violent ones 'cause I don't fancy getting squashed but you know what I mean.

That's about all it took for him to be elected. True blue progressives are watching with increasing dismay as he shatters his election promises, and that means New Democrats like me get more reasons to be smug in the face of our overwhelming defeat. We're all practicing the chorus line of "I told you so", and at this rate we're going to sing ourselves hoarse by the year's end.

WHYYYY!?

*tearing my hair out*... HOW DID WE LOSE TO THIS MAN OF NOTHINGNESS?!
In the name of all that's good in this world, every policy the Liberals have are either stolen from the Conservatives or stolen from the NDP. The only thing they produce on their own is corruption at the highest levels of government, that's why we got rid of them to begin with!

For goodness' sake, they weren't even sworn into office before a top Liberal was charged with a corruption crime. And now not even a month later a totally different top Liberal has been convicted of tax evasion. They couldn't even get through to the new year before being plagued with scandals.

In 37 days they've managed to break the following promises to the Canadian electorate:

Syrian refugee support, opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership, ending the combat role in the Middle East, ending our support for the oil sands (support KXL), reforming the National Energy Board that makes final decision on pipelines (just told my city and province to go to hell, figuratively), and putting at least a brake on the rampant corruption in government.

This is not the #realchange peopl... never mind. People knew exactly what they were getting, but damn does his hair look good. I sure hope I can pay my student loan debt off with the reflected glory of his visage. We even, under the direction of the "new Liberal" government, voted against a UN resolution decrying NAZIism.

Liberals are good at winning power. Too bad that's all they seem to care about. Any overarching goal they have for Canadians is quickly lost amid the need to keep on staying in government and doing whatever it takes to empower themselves to do... no one knows. But hey, at least our Finance Minister isn't preaching austerity anymore... except that's exactly what's been promised. I sincerely, truly hope Canadians are proud of electing a party with no principles, with a leader who is objectively the least qualified of them all, including the Bloc Quebecois and Green Party leaders. I can't believe I have to endure another four years of the media fawning over a man who is going to bumble his way through the next four years, giving us the exact same Neoconservative policies that I fought against. But hey, that's what happens when we have a whole election on the basis of who can beat Stephen Harper, instead of who can actually change Stephen Harper's policies.

#disgusted.

Guess you are NDP, huh?

I'm a New Democrat too. I see all of the election promises that are being broken daily and truly it's saddening but with any government it could happen too. I truly believe Mulcair would have gotten everything handled and in order if we they got in power.
