Seems we have different views: I used to prefer the Rose-Doctor (Tennant) chemistry.

Also, Amy-Doctor (Matt Smith) was good, but no romance involved.

Indeed we apparently do have different views. I loathed Rose. Maybe it was because of her Chav-like feel, or her annoying mother, but she just grated on my nerves. Tennant on the other hand was a spectacular Doctor, but I first saw Smith, so he became the one I most associated with the role.

Also, Amy Pond is probably my favorite companion with Clara coming in at #2.

Moreover, Vocals are an independent office and does not belong to the Executive: Once again, take a good look at Constitution via the link "Magna Carta" and read under "Government" (The governing body of Capitalist Paradise shall consist of four general offices: The Executive, The Legislative, The Judicial, The Vocals, And additional offices created as needed)

Good catch...although in the traditional definition of the executive (c.f. the bits about Montesquieu and America here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_powers) not sure I see how the vocals are anything different?

The divine harbinger of war

Acario wrote:Hello and welcome Harldfrost and The divine harbinger of war to Capitalist Paradise. We have a few attractions in our region, the one we are most known for are our political discussions on this Regional Message Board. In the World Factbook Entry, there are several other things you should check out: the regional forums, the IRC channel and the regional newspaper. If you have questions, feel free to telegram me or join the IRC as I am usually on there.

Did everyone hear about this case? https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140722/11025527969/supreme-court-ruling-over-search-mobile-phones-may-really-be-first-internet-things-ruling.shtml

Seems that our phones are now protected from warrant-less searches. How far do you think your privacy rights should be extended into the digital space? Should warrants also be needed to retrieve the metadata companies have on people?

Thanks, sorry for makng you type that out, I like knowing what is happening.

Topic on NS forums right now is discussing possible impeachment of Obama. Let me make one thing clear no real member of the House of Representatives wants to move to impeach Obama tomorrow. The Republicans would never try it unless it was found out that Barack murdered 13 school children in the Oval office even then a few Democrats would side with him.
So you know who likes to push the impeachment talk saying Republicans are all about it? The left, the left does it because they can fund raise off of it. Next time you see impeachment news bear that in mind.

Go away progressives

Impeachment hardly ever works - the only time it did look like winning (in two centuries) was in the case of Richard Nixon. Nixon was hated by the Dems (and by the media - the same thing really) because he was a Republican. And he was hated by conservatives because he was a Progressive Republican (picture of "Teddy" Roosevelt on his bedroom wall as a boy, wage and price controls, wild government spending, endless regulations......) so when he came under attack (for stuff that every President since Franklin Roosevelt had done) he found himself without friends and allies, the Dems wanted him out (for partisan reasons) and conservative Republicans were not going to strain themselves for him. result - a hopeless position for Richard.

Barack Obama is a totally different position - the hard core (the base) of the Democrats love him (they would publically castrate themselves for him), so he has dedicated defenders (whatever he does), result - any impeachment would be hopeless.

Go away progressives

Dr Who - I am older than most of you (I am as old as sin and twice as ugly) so I remember the J.P. Doctor Who.

As for the recent Doctors and companions.

Amy Pond was a good companion - but I never understood what the point of that man who kept following her around was (a pointless character - both before and after the marriage).

The new Doctor bringing in a darker feel......

Perhaps - we shall have to see....

Anyway the Timelords are back (or rather they were never really dead - the Doctor just thought they were).

So anything is possible.

Just so everyone knows the regional forums are down.

Also for those you who are interested, I updated the map over the weekend.

Got that right. Look at the ACA vote.

So, I've never really looked at the Nation Analysis before. How is influence determined?

I believe Influence is determined by the length of time a nation has been in a region as well as WA endorsements that nation has accumulated.

Cool, thanks!

Metacrisis wrote:So, I've never really looked at the Nation Analysis before. How is influence determined?

Let me quote the wise words of Shadow Afforess on this:

Shadow afforess wrote:While the inner workings of influence have not been completely solved, much is known.

The influence categories (Minnow, Vassal, Duckspeaker, etc) are attained by reaching a certain percent of the total regional influence. The only category currently known for certain are minnow and vassal. Minnow influence is anywhere from 0% to 0.99% of the region's total influence. Vassal is attained by reaching 1% of the region's total influence.

In addition, the growth of your nation's Soft Power Distribution Rank (Henceforth referred to as SPDR) occurs at each update. The amount of SPDR you will have at the end of each update = sqrt(1 + SPDR^2 + endorsements). Therefore increasing your endorsement count increases the growth of your influence.

If you have any other questions on it, send me a telegram.

Also a new poll is up. I am curious on the region's thoughts about the Right to be Forgotten.

Metacrisis wrote:So, I've never really looked at the Nation Analysis before. How is influence determined?

Regarding the first paragraph ("Vassal is attained by reaching 1% of the region's total influence."):
The amount of Regional Influence that you need in order to became Vassal, Handshaker, etc, is not the same as time goes by; in this particularly region, it seems to increase. At the beginning of the year, the amount of Regional Influence required to achieve Vassal was 180 aprox. Now is around +190.

It's proportional to the total amount of influence in the region - so the longer a region exists for, and the greater the number of members in it, the higher than number will become while remaining at the same proportion.

The regional forums are back up and operational.

In reference the poll, I'm trying to figure out why anyone believes they have a right to have factual information "forgotten." Kind of reminds me of those credit report clean up scams.

There are many people that should not be forgotten. Those that ran companies into the ground and wiping out stockholders for one. Child molesters for another.[1] Politicians should never be forgotten. Their statements and their voting records should follow them beyond the grave.

The part that really fascinates me is how the EU thinks this is going to work. Do the French really think they can come over here to the United States and force someone to delete some trivial blog entry disparaging a French citizen? I don't see this as enforceable. Google need only split up its companies in to Google America, Google Europe, etc and the law will have no effect what so ever.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[1] This excludes technical sex offenders like the 60 something Missouri man that was forced to register and submit to all the sex offender restrictions because he was an 18 year old sailor that got caught making love to his 17 year old girl friend. The same one that went on to become his wife, raise his kids and is still his wife today. There was no point in declaring that man to be a sex offender.

Capitalist Producers is dead right.

The right to be forgotten is the right to censor information. Politicians, corrupt businessmen, past criminals are all eager and using the new system to hide their unsavory pasts. I don't speak of hypotheticals, it is already happening now. The right to be forgotten is doublespeak of the highest order, it is the modern-day's equivalent newspeak for censorship. If you are in favor of the right to be forgotten, you are in favor of vast censorship and rewriting the past.

While it is most prominent in Europe currently, that does not mean it will not come to the US in some capacity. In fact there have been two court cases in the US regarding it: Melvin v. Reid and Sidis v. FR Publishing Corp. The first was in favor of the Right to be Forgotten and the second was against it.
