My thanks for the poll. My favorite scene of your demented director from my pick:

"So what if we *do* develop this Solanite bomb? We'd be even a stronger nation than now."

"Stronger. You see? You see? Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid!"

"That's all I'm taking from you!"

Nation states ate part of my post. Must be this Canadian internet connection.

Where was I... Oh yes.

Mortem inferre wrote:If this immense pride in the battle flag had been some constant theme in the South since they lost their attempt at rebellion, maybe I'd be a little more sympathetic, but since it really surged during the Civil Rights movement in the mid-20th century, it's pretty clear what that flag stands for.

The second part you got wrong is what that flag stands for. You are putting thoughts in the heads of people that do not belong there. There are a few people flying that flag that are prejudiced to the extreme. However, the vast majority see it as a symbol of their independent spirit and a memorial to those Confederate soldiers that died in the civil war. (Seriously, did you read what I wrote?)

However, here is your chance to prove me wrong. Show me some documentation that General Lee's battle flag is generally regarded by those that fly it as a symbol of racism and I'll retract my statement.

It's always refreshing to see a non-political poll for a change.

I'm very torn between Plan 9 and The Room. Plan 9 is perhaps the grandfather of the "so bad it's good" genre of movies and could even be considered a classic, but there is so much history, amusement, and mystery behind The Room. Tommy Wiseau is like a modern day Ed Wood, except much more eccentric and mysterious.

Both of them are highly entertaining movies because of their notoriety, terrible acting, craptastic special effects, and of course the enigma of their respective directors.

Swords are honourable... but grenade launchers are funnier.

Americans are a vexillocentric people. Nobody displaying the hammer and sickle flag does so in honour of the Holodomor either. But it is the victims of the policies symbolised by each banner who determine whether it is offensive or not.

Rebel soldiers nor NKVD agents saw anything wrong with their own causes. Terrorists are like that.

There are no victims of the Confederate states. There haven't been for over a century. No living Americans can legitimately claim to have been wronged by Slavery.

The confederat flag isn't hurting anyone. Everyone is getting to sensitive over every little thing. Before long freedom of speech and expression will be a thing of the past because if someone says something that the "politically correct" mass' s doesn't agree with they are punished for it. You can't open your mouth any more with out offending someone somewhere. This is not equality this is special treatment for a few because we don't want to hurt their fragile feelings and start a freakin' riot.

Exactly! There is no one alive with a direct claim to being a victim of slavers in the Confederacy. And there is no one alive that that has any legitimate beef with Gen. Lee's battle flag.

I like his flag. If my flag was not a protest over the arbitrary censor ship of my nation's true motto, I would start flying one too.

That was so good I quoted it just so it would post again.

Political correctness and forced equality are the new empty religions of the century.

I've never understood the fixation of beating on Mrs. Obama. While I disagree with how she's approached the areas shes committed to as First Lady, she is still a fine women. I don't see where you get to judge her on being a lady?
As to Baroness Thatcher being a better leader than President Obama, well that's true.

k

There are a few things Obama has done right. In all honesty he isn't the worst leader we've ever had. The thing I can't stand most though is the Obamas trying to dictate what we should and should not eat. This is a free country, and choosing what you eat and how much of it you eat should be a basic freedom. It's not the governments place to dictate what we can and can't do with our bodies. All drugs should be legalized, regulated and sold like alcohol. All churches should be taxed like every other business. All sexual orientations should be free to do whatever as long as it's consenting adults. I am a Christian but my moral values shouldn't be made law just because I believe them to be true. God gave man free will stop interfering and let them exercise it. As long as you don't hurt another person you should be free to do as you please.
