No, it's something you feel, all slimy on your hands.

Classical Studies are quite onanistic, cultural credentials wise.

A great deal of it is wrapped up in smugness and self-praise, from an outside perspective.

It's not like the Greeks and Romans are to blame - they were smug and self-praising, but that's not contagious - simply the attitudes of much of those who study them.

I don't talk to any of the Latin students at my school about their classes, or else I'll have to stab them everywhere.

I've never seen any such attitude or any general tendency to such an attitude.

Well, I don't know then - maybe you've been lucky or you haven't noticed.

Were you in somewhere that requires you to study Classics, as I believe Italy does (based on Agr's stories), things would be different.

My first Latin instructor was a rude person, but I do not believe that has any correlation to his knowledge of Latin.

Other than him, no one comes to mind.

In Italy, I believe it depends on what academy whereat one matriculates.

I also have minimal knowledge of Koine Greek.

I have always referred to the language with Castilian. In addition, it is used by a great number of people still today.
