The Federal Democratic Republic of Bonaugure is a nation in The South Pacific, fairly new and active in both The South Pacific Forum and the World Assembly. Being located at the outmost southwest of the continent of Eventide, faces the Brutland Sea to the west and its immediate neighbor is Noctenos across the mountain range to the east. Likewise, its first city and now capital is the Federal District of Daheim, although it now counts with twelve autonomous provinces.

The country is notable for its mixture of races, who joined forces to found Bonaugure, becoming fiercely patriotic yet compassioned with a high sense of ethics.

Etymology

The name of the nation derives from “bon augure”, a common way of saluting between the first members of Projet R’lyeh. Later on it was proposed among others as the official name for the soon to be acquired soil at that moment, winning by large margin due its familiarity.

History

---

Originated as part of the Projet R’lyeh, an initiative proposed by like-minded isolationists. Such was promoted through the net and hidden means in its beginnings by people drawn together to escape from the oppression of broken, corrupted and ill-willed countries. These civil rescue underdogs infiltrated plenty of nations to take refugees away from such places. Fragments of their movement included coded personal statements like the following: “We had nowhere to return. We’re thankful to those who shared their means to help us flee in our finest hour. Now, we do the same.”

At first, there wasn’t much commitment prior to November of 2002, when the first civil rescue operation took place. Eventually, after five years in action and having gathered plenty of communities from country to country, the Covenant of Principles was signed by their, at that time, representatives the 24 of September of 2007. The Covenant helped coordinate over the following years the ever-changing population until they finally decided to find a home of their own.

In the end, negotiations allowed them to get soil in The South Pacific to settle down. This was followed by the ratification of the Covenant as National Constitution, the foundation of Bonaugure with its first city, Daheim, and the formation of the government at the beginning of 2015.

Note: There are rumours that the initiative is still active under different denominations, which is kept unknown to our team.

Geography

---

Bonaugure is a long thin country bound by mountains and sea, with fjords, cliffs and islands in the south, whilst plains and rivers in the north. Its total size is 291,256 km² with about 1,800 km of coast and 2,100 km. of mountain range. The biomes vary between temperate steppes, montane forest and alpine, along with patches of forest spread around, following closely the rugged mountain ranges. It also seems to be tectonically and volcanically active, since it faces the West Continent Trench in the Brutland Sea and the presence of two volcanoes has been confirmed; Mt. Vulcan with 5,178 m. shared with Noctenos and Mt. Primjer, 5,163m respectively.

The nation counts with twelve autonomous provinces divided by rivers in most of the cases as the 21 barrier islands are shared among them, except for the case of Kushima, which is entirely composed of isles.

Climate
The clime varies by latitude, being dry and temperate in the north and central provinces whilst cool and damp in the south. The mountains and sea influence significantly in the weather, keeping the general average between 20°C (68°F) and -10°C (14°F) with rare variations, except for the outmost southern provinces and the alpine zones in the range, which go lower.

Precipitation is highest around the months of April to September with the yearly average of 800mm (30in) in form of rain, hail and snow.

Flora and Fauna
Among the regional biomes, temperate steppes, montane forest and alpine, there are plenty of species still being categorised as well as some introduced later on, mainly such as domestic animals.

The local flora includes small to medium sized plants like Prairie Sagebrush, Cotton’s Milk-vetch, Rhubarb, Sweet Vernal, Tea Shrub and wild berries and tubers yet to name. On the other hand, trees like Ash, Frost Maple, Citrus, Cypress and a large amount of conifers.

As for the fauna, some are purely autochthonous and others show signs of previous contact with civilisation. Among the most known are chickens, heelain cows, dun squirrels, reindeers, mountain goats. Whilst the newfound native species, although quiet similar to ones in other territories, are the Azure Kestrel, our national animal; the Fond Grimalkin, a tree dweller feline; the Prairie Gervyl, a rodent larger kind of guinea pig adopted as a pet lately; Corsac Koiott, a canine with a small variety of races; and the Korthalsad Alpacka or short-necked alpaca, abundant across the country.

To add, some cryptid species have also been sighted since the arrival to these lands, such as the case of the jackalope attack in the island of Auster, in Kushima, after an attempt of civil rescue in the zone. Further details of the event have not been disclosed afterwards.

Government

The Federal Democratic Republic of Bonaugure embraces a Federal Parliamentary Representative government integrated by twelve autonomous provinces; Falkland, Labrador, Ulli, Jiānshān, Faust, Breton, Solus, Westmarch, Kushima, Barrhaven, Davonna, and Albion. The country mainly operates under the National Constitution, previously known and still informally referred as the “Covenant”, from where all Bonaugurean law derive.

Directorial System

The provincial representatives, the ministries and the parliament as a whole are coordinated and overseen by the members of the Federal High Council, whilst fulfilling their role as common Head of State. Likewise, each member serves as an adviser to the President and their peers.

Federal Parliamentary Representative Government
Although the Executive Power is implemented by the Parliament directed wholly by the Federal High Council, the Legislative Power is entrusted to the Parliament Houses. The Longhouse serves as what would be in other countries a Lower House whilst the Pavilion of Aurors, as an Upper House or a Senate.

Local Government
As the nation is composed of provinces, each holds certain amount of autonomy in means of government and legislation; being able to proclaim lesser regional decrees and being ruled by regionally elected representatives. In the same fashion, some of their representatives are meant to serve at the Parliament’s Longhouse or Pavilion of Aurors.

In more detail, each province is constituted by holds and these by districts, be them cities and towns. However, military bases, uncommitted territories within the nation, like natural reserves, and federal districts such as Daheim are managed directly by the Federal Government.

Judiciary
The Judiciary Power is held by assigned doctors of jurisprudence such as Judges and Attorneys at the provincial and federal courts. Furthermore, the Criminal Court, Patent Court and Administrative Court work under the Supreme Court.

Politics
The political parties in Bonaugure are still dispersed without being able to consolidate any dominating party at the moment. Therefore, twelve official parties have been formed since the first inscription of the Covenant:

These groups are allowed to set internal elections and offer candidates to run on the general ones, since the National Constitution does not limit strictly the existence and participation of political parties. In fact, some of these began with people running independently for government positions.

Demography

According to the latest census, the Bonaugurean population is 55,538,065; with a demographic density of 193.785 persons/km². The growth rate has experienced an abrupt escalation due the Inner Colonisation Programme, but it’s expected to stabilise subsequently.

Origins

The people consist almost entirely of immigrants, which is expected of a fairly new country. Moreover, their previous life information is kept classified by default, although it can be disclosed by the respective citizens themselves.
Religion and Beliefs

Although the still law preaches freedom of religion and dictates the Federal Government to stay secular under any circumstances whilst preventing any violent uprising, there are plenty of creeds in the population, from noncommittal atheism and agnosticism to the most hermetic and fanatical sects.

Nonetheless, there’s been a doctrine which have been receiving countless followers, surpassing the other groups by a great majority of the population in this year. According to the latest census, the Sacred Path conforms the 67% of the Bonaugurean population, exceeding the 30 million advocates.

Despite this doctrine showing no intention to intervene on political affairs, being more of a tolerant “self-improvement creed”, it doesn’t seem much able to stop radicals who try to infiltrate it for the sake of amassing power to fulfil personal agendas, demanding inquisitions and such. Similarly, anti-religious speeches in general are not outlawed.

Education
The educational structure is pretty similar and compatible with plenty of countries. It’s compulsory in three phases: elementary school [grades 1-6], middle school [grades 7 and 8] and high school [grades 9-12]. It begins at the age of 7, allowing optional preschools as well. Most the adult population has finished compulsory education or is attending crash curses.

Middle and high school go accompanied with standard military and civil training with option to continue military careers as well as specialisations. Likewise, high schools in Bonaugure could be fairly compared with technical schools in other countries. As for tertiary education, it’s subsidised for certain courses and individuals who meet certain criteria.

Health Care
Essential healthcare is free and intensely focused in prevention. Likewise, the introduction and study of genetics has influenced greatly in its appliance as well as increasing both the standards and life expectancy of the population

Law and Order
Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Bonaugure is experiencing at the moment an economic growth thanks its mixed social market nature, accompanied by a skilful and educated labour force, and a relatively low level of corruption. Although it was originally focused in Timber, Mining and Fishing; its current major industries are the Information Technology, Book Publishing and Pizza Delivery.

In regards of its currency, the Quill (‽) is a representative currency pegged to a basket of commodities.

Energy
Bonaugure obtains most of its energy from hydroelectric dams, geothermal power plants and wind turbines. Besides, although being dispassionate about them, the country counts with uranium mines as well as oil, coal and gas either in lesser amounts or located in proximities with protected natural reserves.

Transport
Whilst having a well-founded public transport system in regards of busses, undergrounds, ferries and a projected inter-province railroads; vehicles produced by the private automobile companies are still the dominant means of transportation.

As for the isles to the south, the establishment of ports and shipyards have become one of their main means for transportation and commerce.

Airports have as well become a boost to the mobilisation of people and goods. Consequently, the recent opening of three international airports is expected to contribute in the regional sphere.

Moreover, Bonaugureans are known to be compassioned but undoubtedly patriotic and impartially pragmatic.

On the calendar, there are just a few holidays celebrated apart from the ones of religious roots. These are most likely due historical events:

In the means of arts, there used to be few in the beginning due having to be in constant movement from one place to another, and persistently warping due the persistent change on population. However, things changed after settling down. The musical and theatre began a phase of restructuration whilst the visual and space related arts, such as painting, sculpture and architecture, manifested in larger ways. Concerning the regional modern music, the most popular style could be described as a blues with touches of rock, followed by instrumental and quieter music.

However, non-alcoholic drinks like the Bittersweet, an iced tea of mixed herbs, accompanied with soda tend to be the largest type of consumed beverage in the country, apart from citric juices and tea itself.

Armed Forces

The Bonaugurean military forces are divided in four branches, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the National Guard, divided again in Coast Guard and Gendarmerie. The military is satisfactorily updated in technological advances, due large investments on the defence systems’ improvement and equipment development. Similarly, it’s renowned for its impartiality in the service, without discrimination of gender, origin, political or religious beliefs nor sexual orientation.

The service is compulsory, and can be either Civil Service or Military Service, beginning with the trainings at the age of 12 and continuing until finishing high school. Later on, they can decide on continuing the military career in one of the branches and their respective divisions or stay as reserve forces. Likewise, the most accomplished division is the Advance Tactics (ATD), informally called the “Silence”, which is in charge of directing operations in and outside the national territory, from civil rescue to criminal hunting and neutralisation. Furthermore, the defence personnel are known as top-notch snipers and tactical units.
