Even if Turkey is part of the NATO, in this case they shot down a superpower's artifact. And fate wants that this superpower is more respected and welcomed than the Turks. That manages even more to (luckily) NOT enter in the EU.
Like when france bombed Isis "oh my god!!!! WW3 everybody!"
as if a planetary war starts because a nation allied with everyone bombs a place everyone hates... in the desert.
...really...

What if a War directly breaks out between NAtO and Russia?

How much will you care then?

Italy is a major player in NATO
What if you are called to serve in the NATO Military against Russia?

Sorry, Emelka, but are you aware how WW1 started?

It was exactly because an irrelevant ****hole got uppity and sabotaged a relevant country. Which eventually resulted in the death of two glorious nations.(RIP Austria and Prussia u wil b misst)

It was assassinated the heir of the Imperal Throne.

Not what i'd call censored-hole...

No. Serbia was okay with sabotaging a major nation, then said major nation attacks, and because Serbia was in alliance with another relevant nation, which in turn was allied with other relevant nations, Austria gets into a world-wide war. Sounds like the situation we're in right now.

And Serbia was rather poor for the time.

You're both wrong.
WWI started because of deployment schedules.
Not because of any murder, not because of anything else.

WWI happened in a highly charged atmosphere. After the assassination, the Kaiser encouraged Austria to do whatever it likes. When Austria mobilized, all powers got afraid. Mobilizing was a game of time. Whoever mobilized first won the war.
A chain of mobilizations started, and the war erupted.
Funnily enough, Austria was a nation without mobilization schedules; and actually needed months to mobilize, not days.

Blaming it on the murder is simplistic.
World Wars don't start on simple events. They need decades in the making.

Let's say World War II.
I blame World War II on France and England more than I blame Germany. They spent 10 years setting the perfect atmosphere for WWII to happen.
But your history books won't say that. They won't blame WWI on the mobilization schedules and strict alliances; which England and France are equally guilty of.
And they definitely won't blame WWII on British refusal to commit in an alliance, and French fear and paranoia.

By the way, today I was greeted by an issue in which I can either stop businesses from destroying ancient relics at the cost of ruining my economy, or I could let them do whatever they want with those ruins to get a huge boost to my economy.

I painfully picked the latter and am expecting results.

Man, who needs games like Mass Effect giving you tough choices when you have NationStates?

Since we're still discussing politics, here's something related to current events:

Belly, I am sorry, but that is utter bs. The ground works of WW2 lies indeed in the Treaty of Versailles. But it was Germany who violently and actively provoked aggression to their neighbours . The anschluss of Austria, the occupation of the Czech Republic, The attack on Poland. England and France didn't instigated WW2, they didn't attacked Germany. it was German aggression that started WW2.

Well

germany attacked first

but the french mo ed the army BEFORE

anyway

I fo not blame that, as it was the culture of the time. Nationalism. "We are stronger than you". And in fact any nation that enteted in war did it with happiness, joy and pride. Such was the common idea.

The pain comes with the peace, and the silly vengeance if the french for a war they lost in 1871and now 40 years later they "raped" an enemy and denoted it so highly that they destroyed to the core a nation and a people.

Afterall
If the French avenged a war 40 years later
why didn't the Germans avenge their destruction a decade later?

If England guaranteed France and set clear lines, Germany would've never popped its head.
That would've removed France's insecurities, which would allow Germany to develop and regrow.
France's insecurity was a direct cause of the German economic collapse and lack of recovery.

These mistakes led to the rise of Hitler.

After his rise,
The British failure to implement collective security, and other powers non-willingess to apply it led directly to Hitler's military rise.
Seeing the world in black and white is attractive, but it doesn't work.

When they say the victors write history, that's what they mean.
The allies wiped their responsibility from the war, instead blaming it on a 'treaty'.

If I could I would help... all I can do is wish you a Merry Christmas

Apparently drafting a constitution is harder and more time-consuming than it sounds...

I'm still debating whether to grant the monarch unlimited power...

Go find a Catholic Church, they'll help you find a place to stay right away. What country are you currently living in?

No real problem, but it would be nice to have more right-wingers. hahaha

Day 3 of protesting outside the Prime Minister's Office

Good morning.

Protests has entered its third day as more and more people have joined in. At roughly 7000 people protesting outside the Prime Minister's Office, this is considered the largest protest since 1991 when the late King Albert refused to sign the Act of Union and Marriage Equality, giving homosexuals the right to marry. Due to the protesters persistence, the Act was signed.

On the 23rd November, it came to light that the Prime Minister has purchased a jet worth 9 billion Lents, which has been met with fierce opposition. Seen as wasteful expenditure, members of the public are demanding the Prime Minister explain himself, and are further pushing that the jet be returned and the money refunded. They are asking why the Prime Minister does not use Lentheric Airways, the national carrier when visiting other nations. They state that only Her Majesty, The Queen is allowed to live in such luxury and that the Prime Minister is not of royal blood.

As the numbers grow by the hours, we only hope that it remains peaceful and that this matter will be resolved soon.

Thank you for joining us.

Perhaps the people of Lentheric will begin to question why the monarchy is entitled to leech off their tax money too...? There's revolution in the air.
