I've never played Witcher to be honest, is it any good as a series?
I love Witcher series, but opinions may vary. And especially first game seems to be "love it or hate it" kind of thing.

From a quick search, It looks short of like the Gothic series ...I'd certainly like it.
Generals and Red Alert only.
First game uses modified aurora engine andd resembles more ye olde rpg, wjile 2 3 use engine developed by the makers of series, and those are more action rpgy.
Love and hate for first game because its slightly slow to pick up its pace with the main story.
Short of like Morrowind I guess, I really need to try these series.

I guess getting only first game at first, cant cost (much) more than 10€.
I like how in these games (all) consequences of players act can be revealed hours later, instead of immediately, so not much that "I didnt like my choice, better save". :p
