If we made a real map of Europe (I gave a better explanation of this some time ago), every nation would be jostling over like, three cities of provinces, there'd be at least ten Roman Empires claiming the entire thing and a hundred Englands claiming the same territory. It'd be a horrific mess that would never get sorted.
