Most nations who do not wish to engage in war directly contribute through funding, intelligence, peacekeeping forces, supplies, and shared technologies.
You have a broad spectrum of ways to contribute.

Each event must have a response before something else happens. They can bomb you, but it's up to you how to respond to that attack and they can't just say they've destroyed your entire nation.

If your alliance supports lend-lease, you can even manufacture ammunition, components, or entire vehicles for alliance members, or conduct joint military exercises, or standardize your diplomatic stances to give each other more international power.
