Welcome to the region! It's rather late here, so I'll try to take a look and give feedback sometime tomorrow. Cheers!

Sector 2313, Midnight.
The beaten pickup creaked and groaned on the shoddy dirt path, the passengers on the back holding on for dear life as they bobbed up and down; it wasn't unheard of for a man to fall off the side of a truck and break their necks once they hit the ground, the overgrown bush not doing much to break falls. The entire car reeked of the rank smell of the unwashed and exhausted men, more than a fair few having vomited since their departure 5 hours ago. Their plain-white polyester t-shirts were christened by all manner of sweat stains and streaks of blue crept into their sleeves from their hastily dyed armbands; this was the proud uniform of men of the second infantry division of the Mandawai Armed Forces, known colloquialy as 'the Blue Division'. Three knocks echoed on the thin metal sheet separating the cab from the rest of the truck, the soldiers donned their helmets and clipped on their drab ammo rigs, they were close. Each man passed his rifle to the one next to him for inspection, the old semi-automatics looked ancient with their wooden furniture and worn steel, but many of them were very recently built, recycled from equipment deemed unnecessarily extravagant by the Mandawaian high command. The truck came to a slow stop as the worn brakes wailed an ear-piercing screech every inch of the way, the soldiers dismounted, their numb legs unsure in the shifting jungle mud. They were to proceed on foot through the dense foliage to Abd Maksar; the last narco who stubbornly resisted the governments demands of him to surrender as part of the Josoi Administration's campaign to finish the revolution and liberate lands still under control by the cartels. It was a 1 kilometer walk to what was confirmed to be Maksar's residence, a mansion so deep in the jungle one often needed a helicopter to get there, the mission was to breach Maksar's compound, acquire him by any means necessary, and bring him to Mandawai so that he could face justice, a mission like this was usually the type reserved for special forces units with the closest the Armed Forces of Mandawai had to that being the infamous Fremen. The Blue Division was neither. The Fremen were indisposed and the Blues were stationed in Eastern Mandawai, therefore decided to be the closest and most capable of performing the mission. The trek towards the compound was excruciatingly slow, the lush jungle floor impeded their movement and as their orders were to 'Stay low and go slow' in order to surprise Maksar, the advance was reduced to a snail's pace. After about an hour of trudging through leaves and mud as quietly as humanly possible, the squad came to a clearing where a single mansion, similar to the farmhouses that rich land-owners used to stay in but far larger than any of them had seen with every single light in the house lit as a play-by-play commentary of the Roman Rugby Championships blared from the top floor. The squad split into two fireteams with one in the foliage at the side the main entrance was located and the other at the east side of the house, keeping watch over the helipad. "SURRENDER IN THE NAME OF THE MANDAWAIAN GOVERNMENT, COME OUT AND THROW YOUR WEAPONS ON THE GROUND!" Cap, the squad leader boomed. Silence, before the door opened and three foreign mercenaries stepped out with their weapons in the air which they lay on the ground in front of them, followed by Maksar himself in a crumpled white polo and a hastily tied tie. As three men were sent forward to detain them, one of the mercenaries piped out "Hey f*ck, these ain't those spec-ops marine GIs!" the mercenary wrapped the metallic fingers of his synthetic arm around Cap's neck as he came to detain him, the other two soldiers were shot dead nearly as soon as they tried to go for their rifles. Maksar and his bodyguards made a run towards the helipad while Cap; still writhing on the ground in pain took potshots at them. They rushed into the helicopter and the rotors came to life, Cap watched in horror as the helicopter began to take off, then suddenly the treeline next to it erupted with gunfire and the helicopter cabin was stained red, lurched violently to the side and slamming into the ground, the helicopter skipped along with the rotors chopping into the land below until it crashed into the mansion's side.

President Josoi has issued a statement that Inyakan province, or Sector 2313 as it is known on international maps has come under control of the Republic of Mandawai, Abd-Maksar, the head of one of the biggest international drug cartels was slain in a clash with government forces early this morning, thus finally ending narco influence in the region. The province is to be officially integrated into the Republic of Mandawai later this month. "We must honor the cause that so many of our countrymen died for and that is to remove the influence of these criminal organizations wherever we may find them and unite in the name of ensuring democracy and security for all Mandawaians." Said President Josoi in the official statement. - Official excerpt from the Free Mandawaii Journal later that day.

Layered Farm Prototype
An idea was given in the Farming Structural Innovation Committee. One of the problems that the design teams had faced was the weight of the soil that the towers would have to hold. On top of that, there would be thousands of barrels (OOC: Enjoying the system, Polar?) of water to hold, plus the growing weight of the crops. To make a reasonable farm, it was actually more efficient to just use a single layer of farmland than to try to make a structure. That is, until this idea was given. The idea was to form geodesic structures inside the walls to enhance stability while shaving weight from the farms themselves. The space between the struts would be filled with helium, to further decrease weight. Then, the joists of each floor would be crosshatched, so that every interior wall would be perpendicular and therefore could bear weight. Doing this would also allow the structure to support considerably more weight. Finally, the farms were to be designed with wind resistance in mind. They would have a four-pointed star shape, so that wind from any direction would be split around the leading point, then led off to the side by the other two points. It was considered that there would be a high pressure zone on the leeward side, causing the structure to fall, but given the star shape, there would be enough wind force to counteract the pressure differential. Water reservoirs would be held in the foundation area, causing the foundation to be heavier and therefore stronger. Doing this will also prevent the walls from having to support more water weight than they absolutely have to. However, earthquakes would still be a concern for such a tall structure. As of now, the idea is to have the structure stand on hundreds of thick steel springs, allowing it to shake and sway in windstorms and earthquakes. The prototype was presented to the Polarisiumian team, and the designs were sent to the leadership bureau… the only challenge remaining was sunlight. With luck, a lack of sunlight is just what the genetic engineers had in mind, and planned for…

Polarisiumian-Celoniaean Food Production Cooperation or Mosslee Strikes Back!

"Ever since the start of Polarisiumian-Celoniaean cooperation Arthur Mosslee and his team have been working tirelessly. The greatest challenge was time. Crops grow rather slowly after all.

Yet Dr. Mosslee and his team still managed to increase the mass of edible parts of vegetables and the total biomass of plants like grain or rice by at least 1.5 times by incorporating several genes and gene complexes into these plants' DNA.

Playing with metabolism of plants is a difficult task, but intagration of a number of genes into the DNA of the tested vegetables and crops helped speed up thier metabolism, but made them vulnerable to enviromental change, such as mineral elements deficit. Mosslee and his team tried to combat these unwanted side effects with more genetic modifications, but were unsuccessful. Their chnges either cancelled out the enhanced growth or plain failed.

An unexpected solution was found in a completely different area: symbiotes. One of Mosslee's collegues, Dr. Pune, proposed this approach.

Dr. Pune and his team placed a certain genetically modified species of bacteria in the soil near Dr. Mosslee's plant. The bacteria settled on root hairs and absorbed some of the minerals the plant would use an store it. If there is sudden shortage of these minerals within the root, the bacteria would compensate for it, releasing its reserves into the root hair. This will happen aside from traditional symbiotic interaction between roots and bacteria.

All in all, Dr. Mosslee, Dr. Pure and their collegues possibly created a way to grow more plants in shorter time. Scientific community cannot be absolutely sure of this however until the experiment that is being conducted, is complete.

An experiment Dr. Mosslee is conducting is rather primitive. He planted several cultures of plants on a number of small sheltered fields with regulated enviroment (it will be the same on all the fields at any given time. Yet the enviroment is programed to change with Lerodas seasons). There are a number of cultures: modifed plant+modified bacteria, modified plant+not modified bacteria, not modified plant+modified bacteria, not modified plant+not modified bacteria. The first thing on the list is golden rice. If modified plant with modified bacteria culture will shpw the fastest growth, then Dr. Mosslee and hi team have indeed created a new, more efficient way to grow our food. As time progresses, other plants will be tested in similar ways."

- Science, Issue no. 459

Mosslee smirked. An entire article on his research in the mlst prestigeous scientific journal of Polarisium, and not a word about targeted cure. Take that, Gerard Forier!

Then the IT team sent him the blueprints of layered farm sructure, created by Celoniaeans as well as a 3D model of it they made. He read the engineers' comments to their blueprints and went to make himself a cup of tea, scaring junior students on the way.

"No sunlight!" Arthur exclaimed and took off his glasses. His free hand rubbed his closed eyes. "Oh for..." he took a sip of hot black tea.

***

"Have a look." Mosslee told his task force. The entire team gathered in a small conference room. They looked at their tablets, that displayed the structure Celoniaeans created as well as Mosslee's comments on it.

"By the looks of confusion and outrage on your faces I assume you share my sentiments regarding this... creation." Arthur said.

"But Dr. Mosslee, how could they possibly sacrifice light? What do they expect us to do, make all our plants chemosynthetic and enjoy SO2 or SO3 byproducts?!"

"I don't know and neither do I care." Arthur snapped. "Which is why I am sending my oppinion on this structure to the IT board. We will not work with this. The plants we eat need sunlight - end of discussion. And I also put forward our collective opinion on the usage of Celoniaean metric system in our cooperation." Many nodded. "Now, despite these recent developments nothing has changed in our schedule. We continue our experiments as planned. Mr. Heisher, I think you mentioned this gene we could incorporate into tomato DNA to further increase its mass, could you tell us more about it?"

"Of course, Dr. Mosslee..."

Federal Trade Committee Press Release

In the past week several deals have been made between SilCorp, one of the very few corporations where the government has some shares, and two foreign governments.

As of now SilCorp will export 10,000 ton of silicon to Krakheim every four months (2.5 ton/month). This will bring the company 12.250 million RM or 13.230 million Spiritualizan Rubles every four months (3.062 mln RM or 3.307 mln Spiritualizan Rubles per month).

Another 25,000 ton will be exported to Spiritualiza. Spiritializan government will pay SilCorp 30.625 million RM/month or 33.075 million Spiritualizan Rubles/month.

Trade negotiations with the Crimson Dawn Epire of Vanhania are currently on hold, as Vahric delegates do not reply to the representatives of SilCorp.

Nolehn, New Base in Sector 1908

I watched as the beach head came into view where dozens of landing craft were unloading personnel and vehicles. Smoke billowed out from the forest where the troops had begun burning out vast swaths of land to make paths and air strips for the months to come. Further inland makeshift base camps with conex shelters housing the troops as they waited for more permanent structures.

I lowered the dropship down into the LZ and opened the deployment hatch while the soldiers and their vehicles rolled out. It was a constant hive of activity outside the ship and thousands of soldiers were hard at work erecting barricades, deploying razor wire, and laying mine fields in the hot sun.

As I ascended into the air I could see the helicopters far out in the distance spraying their defoliants that will leave the land barren and dead for years. No doubt to mark a spot which the Celonians should not cross over else risk the miles of razor wire and landmines that awaited behind the soon to be barren strip of land.

The proximity of Akrast and the Gunderson Isles made this base made it possible for me to make rapid trips transporting troops and supplies. As makeshift as the base looked it wouldn’t take long for it to grow in size and population. The higher ups stated that they eventually wanted to establish a trading city on the base but with the current political turmoil in the region it wasn’t likely in the foreseeable future.

Finally Bekahn has finally been closed. A Vahric base that had caused nothing but conflict between Valyria and the Vahric Empire over the years and a new base has taken it’s place.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Vahric Imperial Broadcast:

The Imperial Minister of Foreign Affairs issued a statement today declaring the closure of Bekahn and the work that has been started on establishing Nolehn in response to the increasing tensions between Celoniae. He continued to comment on the ongoing exercise involving the Vahric Armed Forces in sector 1908, in which the Vahric Army has been laying minefields and entrenchments as well as the movement of self propelled and towed artillery around the base and surrounding sector, stating that it was to ensure the safety and set forth the strategic goals of the base.

As reporters went on to ask about the reports of large scale use of defoliants throughout the sector he refused to comment significantly sparking more rumors. Some question the ethical use of such substances and the effect on the environment but the government insists that the strategic gain is of more importance.

Statement on the Nolehn Base and Trade with Vanhania

President Keisen stood in the hall of the Phoenix Tip. As usual, camera flashes were the main source of light in the room. The presdient looked at the reporters with a firm scowl on his face and started talking.

"The Federal Republic of Polarisium has two official statements to make.

First of all, the government has finished its negotiations with Vanhania and the results are as follows:

- Vanhania will significantly decrease its tariffs on silicon from Polarisium.

- Polarisium will significantly lower its tariffs on car and aerospace parts from Vanhania.

Another statement is far less optimistic. Vanhania has just established Nolehn military base in sector 1908. The government of Polarisium has no fondness of either the base itself or the way it has been established.

The government and the parliament believe that the means used in sector 1908 to make it an uninhabitable wasteland for generations to come were and are not worth the results.

We will not escalate the situation in the region further by speaking the words of official condemnation. But let it be known, that while we will swallow this bitter pill, Polarisium will never say a word of support for Nolehn base. Thank you for your time and no comments."

Militarism and Hypocrisy
It was a nice day in Centraelis. At least, until a Vahric Imperial Broadcast came in. Director of the Interior Patricia Avery’s eye twitched as she heard the news. She couldn’t believe it. After replaying the broadcast several times, her face turned beetroot red, and she stormed to Director Peters’ office with a transcript of the broadcast. She threw it down on the table, and yelled at him, “WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO THIS TIME? IT WAS BAD ENOUGH WITH THE NUKE, NOW THIS, WHAT’S THE DEAL?” Director Peters was stunned. There had been no military actions in the nation for a long time. The last events were defensive! Surely they couldn’t be mad that they were preparing for the foe of Ascendancy… All this went through his head, and he simply said, “Pat, I honestly have no idea what they’re talking about. You read the news and my reports, you’d know what I’ve been doing, if I’d done anything wrong.” He turned to his computer and examined the radar. Sure enough, there was a cloud of smoke above the sector that the Vanhanians stole. Avery still looked angry. “We were going to put farms there. We would have pulled our country, our small alliance, out of the food crisis… and now it’s all covered in concrete, barbed wire, and soldiers. I’m getting this to the Sentinel, and I want your men in as much of a defensive position as you can get them, every last one. That’s on our island, and damn it, it’s our land. God, my island…” Peters looked up at her.
“If it’s any consolation, I found the original Vanhanian list of grievances. Have a look.”
Avery took a picture of the list, ran to her office, and examined the image. Let’s see, what all did they violate here… She began to type.
“Vanhania, whoever, or whatever, you are, we would like to make a statement. This has to do with your list of grievances on the original missile test we conducted. Before I begin, I would like to say that the missile strike’s altered course was not authorized by the government. It was fueled by power-hunger on the part of Director Peters, and he was almost impeached and imprisoned for his actions. It is easy to say that he has been appropriately reprimanded for his behavior. However, as much as has been done to repair the damage, it evidently was never enough for the militarist, imperialist Empire of Vanhania. Now, onto what has been done…
-Firstly, the Emperor stated that “we can not continue to trade with a nation with acts without thought for the environment, life, and future generations”. While this is a noble desire, it was violated by the building of Nolehn. Minefields were laid, miles of barbed wire were prepared, and heavy-duty defoliants were used carelessly. It was directly stated, “[the defoliants] would leave the land dead and barren for years”. These actions are certainly describable as “without thought for the environment, life, and future generations”.

-Secondly, the Emperor stated that “We will not tolerate displays of force and warmongering”. Certainly this base construction can be described as warmongering. Heavy artillery was put into place, mines were laid, runways were prepared, and trenches were dug. There is no reason to fortify an installation like this but to prepare for hostilities. One does not build a military base to defend against the occasional raider, or even Ascendancy. The base was not only escalation, but escalation without reason, as well as excessive militarism. The power that the Vahr wield is brutal, and it is simply being thrown around on a whim.

-Thirdly, the Emperor stated that “If the Celoniae Government wishes to pursue these nuclear tests and pursue conflict with the Vahric Empire It can be quickly and effortlessly displayed that the we can provide firepower that makes your primitive nuclear missiles pale in comparison.” This is certainly a truth. Even with the enhanced shore defenses that have been put in place, it would likely not cost a single Vahric life to take the entire nation. Should war be declared, it would be the equivalent of having a special forces team assassinate a preschooler. All that we would see is total and immediate destruction.

In conclusion, your move has baffled our politicians. We are unsure of what you are trying to accomplish here. We only want to know your motives and desires with this installation.”
As she was preparing to finish the message, her secretary informed her of a new message, that the Vanhanians were willing to pursue diplomatic solutions to the rising tensions. Avery frowned.
“This is clearly blackmail. First they take our land, ruining it with a military base, and then ask us to pay them to stop? They will not get an ounce of silver from the Councilship. In fact…”
1 Hour Later
By this time, most of the population had heard the news of the base, and were in outrage. On computers everywhere, Director Avery issued a short message.
“As of this moment, due to actions made by the Crimson Dawn Empire, all identification documents issued to those of the Vahric race are to be declared null and void, and it shall be fully legal to deny them services of any sort. Make of this what you will, but to the Vahr, I must warn you: there will undoubtedly be mobs of citizens wanting your heads. I would suggest that you secure yourselves, armed if necessary. After all, we’ve all seen how much your motherland loves arming themselves.”
The few Vahr in the crowd immediately ran to their homes, and are undoubtedly unsure of what will come of the events.

I thought nobody was supposed to know about ascendancy yet, since they're only JUST resurfacing and haven't even done anything yet to lead credence to their re-organization.

Yes, they did. And everyone there was killed, if I remember right. Ascendancy 2's definitely kicked off.

Finally created a factbook entry, anyone willing to give it a once over and some feedback?

The Precursors: Part One
Rural Sector 3608

After the sector was conquered by the Marossian Republic, mining operations had immediately commenced within the newly acquired territories. And with the mining operations came the almost inevitable unearthing of old ruins.

Most of what was unearth was fairly standard, ruins resembling those of the Ancient Marossians, some of the ancient civilizations of the reptilians to the south, and perhaps some of already known predecessor groups that have lived on the continent. However, there was *one* anomaly.

There had been rumors and theories of ancient advanced Humans and other groups coming to Lerodas within scientific communities throughout the world, but most claims were dismissed as lunacy and conspiracy theories, and any claimed “ruins” were quickly debunked as manufactured.

And yet, very recently, a mining company working near the coast stumbled upon something that could change the history of humanity’s existence on Lerodas forever.

The ruins in question appeared to be some sort of storage facility, with several pods. The building itself was in very poor condition, so it was hard for scientists to tell exactly what it was used for, and when exactly it was built, but the pods provided some clues for the first, at least. Within each one, the very vague outline of a human was visible through the opaque glass. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that most of the beings within the pods showed no vital signs. There was much debate within the scientific team about whether the pods, especially the ones with living beings, should be opened, or even moved from the site, with no official decision being reached then or in the foreseeable future.

Rather, the two events of the coastal town and the Ruzalkan base being invaded were close to simultaneous. Still try to communicate with Ruz to determine how much time has passed since those events occured.

Solonian Rebellion, Act II: Air

The birds were singing on Silium islands. That's why Richard mpved here from the mainland. There, in Wessen, it was steel and desert, with nothing to change that cansant melody of the city and wild wind. Here though, he has visited rural area for the first time in his life. He has seen real grass, not the one artificially grown.

The birds flew from one tree to another, not really caring about anyting happening in Richard's house. They sang different tunes - all beautiful, but so incompatable. It was like one flock of birds tried to oversing the other. Their sweet melodic voices coiled around each other, trying to strangle their opponent, breaking he harmony of nature and music.

Rich was just enjoying his morning cup of coffee before going to the field to monitor crops harvesters, when suddenly news broadcast replaced his favourite lottery show on the TV.

***

Keisen stood in the Phoenix Hall at the president's tribune again. The topic of today's statement was the way Polarisium will handle the uprising of the former Solonian colonies. Their government refused to acknowledge the signing of Pax Polaris by Solonian central authorities.

"Today leaders of self-proclaimed Republic of Tinvoum and Risaan Republic - former colonies of former Solonium Republic - proclaimed their alliance and common resolve 'to fight foreign invaders'.

Yesterday their newly formed governments stated that they will 'stand tall as any nation does' and protect themselves from 'greedy manipulations of a fascist junta, that usurped the power in their homeland'.

Well, obviously by 'fascist junta' they mean us - Polarisiumian federal government. Obviously we resent these unfounded accusations. Furthermore we think that these accusations are a desperate attempt at trying to both establish themselves on the international arena and sully our good name.

Well, here's our reply. We will not accept or tolerate accusations from usurpers, who rode the wave of confusion, that always comes with great political changes, to grab more power at the cost of human lives. These politicians, who call themselves presidents without being elected, were the ones to rally a part of former Solonian navy to their rotten cause. They are the reason twenty ships were sunk and thousands of men died days ago!

We are not like them however. Polarsium will not slaughter people for our own gain. No, we will not invade former Solonian colonies, we will give the people of this land time to decide whether they will tolerate the usurpers, or voice their opinion and choose freedom and prosperity over oppression and obscurantism.

Until then our navy will blockade these islands, as we cannot allow the criminals, who call themselves the government of these island to escape."

***

"What president Keisen speaks is rubbish!" president Koleyo smashed his fist against the tribune of Tervokar Tow Hall, that had been converted into the president's base of operations in the Republic of Tinvoum. "Our people refused to join the corrupt monster that is Polarisium. Polarisium hides imperialism behind democracy! What if not annexation of our territory happened the moment prime minister Chorello asked to join that rotten country?! Evan Keisen is an international and war criminal, who bullied our country into joinin his fascist state, and should be tried for his crimes! I know and everyone knows that Polarisiumian corporations were the cause of the brief Solonian Civil War - which was all but an excuse to let Polarisiumians invade us!

Not on these islands!" Koleyo roared ans shook his fist for emphasis. "We will stand for ourselves and we will fight for our freedom! For the sacred right of self-governance!

We will not be bullied and intimidated into signing that piece of toilet paper Evan Keisen calls Pax Polaris!

Polarisiumian junta may threaten and torture us, but our. people. will. endure!"

***

Like usually Keisen stood at the tribune in the Phoenix Tip. This time the entire High Command, except for grand admiral Feristo stood behind him.

"In light of the previous accusations from the usurpers from former Solonian colonies," Keisen started as the noise disappeared around him, "and generally militaristic behaviour of siad usurpers the government believes that letting these criminals roam free any longer is counterproductive for the continued good of he people of these islands. During the past week, presidents Koleyo and Uvraci and their top executives added the equivalent of over twelve million RM into their coffers. The situation in the former Solonian colonies is becoming dire. As we develop Solonian sector and turn it into a land of prosperity, the colonies are suffering from lack of food, medicine and even water. Electricity is running out, blackouts are becoming regular. The people are suffering while the provelleged stuff their pockets with money!" Keisen cut an end to this part of the speech.

We will no longer tolerate this." the president paused. "An hour ago I signed the invasion order for our navy and our air force. The High Command engineered a plan that will bring civillian casualties to a minimum. If we are lucky, no civillian will be hurt." Keisen wanted to chuckle here, looking at all those attentive faces, who were eating this bullshit. As if cvillians can ever be spared in times of war... "Hopefully, the reign of criminals will end tomorrow."

The president walked away with high generals Howard Stein, commander-in-chief of the air force and Stanford Trumahn, commander-in-chief of the ground forces.

***

As the Strike Group II moved to invade the islands they held in a blockade for a week, grand admiral Feristo could hear birds screaching in the dstance. This brutal sound was so out of place with soft waves and gentle breeze, that Feristo couldn't resist scratching his right ear in annoyance.
