Nationalist Party secures decisive election victory; falls short of two-thirds majority
08/10/2080

By Sumire Uchida • @UchidaSumire_CBS

The 2080 General Election has seen millions of voters cast their ballots to elect their legislators, and President. Preliminary results show that approximately 24,113,271 voters cast their ballot this election, with a turnout rate of 93.7%.

In the legislative elections, the Nationalist Party secured 190 seats out of 320 seats in Parliament according to preliminary results released by Elections Chiho. Its political ally, the Justice Party, secured 9 seats, losing some 3 seats from the 12 they held after the last election.

Having went into election day with 164 seats, with 178 seats total including those held by the Justice Party and two Independents, the Nationalists had held a slim majority in Parliament.

Final opinion polling suggested the Nationalists and their allies would only pick up a dozen seats at most. However, as the election polls closed and results began trickling in, it was clear the Nationalists had the momentum for a historic election victory.

These results mark a significant victory for Prime Minister Yuko Hayashi and her allies. Having secured victory in the 2076 General Election, Hayashi's party held a slim majority and had to tread carefully with their legislative agenda. Despite not securing a two-thirds majority, but now enjoying a strong majority of 199 seats out of 320 in Parliament, the Nationalists and their allies will have a much stronger mandate, and more leeway in pushing their agenda and legislative goals forward.

The party's performance in key swing districts propelled the party to victory. In Niihama, a key bellwether province, the Nationalists secured 59 seats and decisively tore down what was traditionally a Civic Democratic Party (CDP) and Progressive Party stronghold.

Elsewhere, the Nationalists saw gains in urban districts and made inroads into what was often considered the oppositions safe districts.

Results for the opposition Democratic coalition were poor. Both the CDP and Progressive Party lost seats, losing 7 and 9 seats respectively. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) bucked the trend and ended up gaining 2 seats, flipping one from the CDP and the other from the Justice Party. The SDP, CDP, and Progressives now hold 85, 24, and 6 seats respectively, for a total of 115 seats.

Opposition CDP and Progressive Party leaders, Kentaro Toyoda and Ayane Nakamura have since announced their intentions to resign. SDP leader Miyuki Ishikawa congratulated Prime Minister Hayashi on her victory, but cautioned the opposition parties would continue to hold her government accountable and to look out for the interests of the common people of Chiho.

Presidential Election

In a three way race between Nobuo Sakai, Yuna Hokazono, and Junichi Nakamura, voters decided on the successor to the popular and term limited President Ryoko Abe. Often referred to as “Chiho’s Grandmother”, due to her age and style of politics, President Abe approached politics with a people oriented mindset and approached the end of her term with approval ratings in the low eighties. Her endorsement of Nobuo Sakai gave the presidential hopeful a significant boost in electoral polling, all but guaranteeing his role as Chiho’s next President. While largely a ceremonial role, the presidency has discretionary veto powers and generally represents the overall desires of the populace.

Sakai, backed by incumbent President Abe as well as the Democratic coalition of parties, ran on a campaign of the continuation of Abe’s legacy as an advocate and protector of Chihoese democracy, as well as a promoter of Chiho abroad. Sakai previously worked in the legal profession at various times with a variety NGO’s and with the Ministry of Justice during the previous CDP-SDP-Progressive coalition government. His campaign was able to maintain broad popular support throughout the campaign period.

Hokazono, backed by the Nationalists and Justice Party, ran a highly energized and competitive campaign despite President Abe’s endorsement of her primary rival. She had ran on her extensive business background and had pledged to improve Chiho’s business image internationally. However, her previous dealings with Nanako during their stock manipulation crisis as a board member, may have tainted her image to voters.

Nakamura, a wildcard candidate with no mainstream political support or backing, ran on a campaign of isolationist policies and the departure of Chiho from the Commonwealth of Nations. His campaign was largely marred by allegations of misuse of campaign funds towards the last few months of campaigning.

As live election results began filtering out to the media and the public overnight and into the morning, it was clear that Sakai had secured the presidency.

Final results showed Sakai securing 62.65% of the popular vote, with 15,107,612 votes. Runner-up Hokazono obtained 35.27% of the popular vote, with 8,503,682 votes. Nakamura obtained 1.77% of the popular vote, with 426,394 votes to his name.

With 62.65% of the popular vote, Sakai won outright and avoided a second round. Endorsed by President Abe and the mainstream opposition parties, his victory signals a continuation of the status-quo and the desire of voters to have an influential check on the legislature, and vice versa.

Hokazono and Nakamura both conceded in the early morning following the election night, and congratulated Sakai on his victory.

What now?

At her campaign headquarters in Chukyo, Hayashi received a lively round of applause as she went up on stage to address the gathered party officials and supporters. She thanked party members and supporters for their “unwavering support and dedication to the party and the nation, as we embark on a continued national rejuvenation of Chiho”. Hayashi also vowed to “continue on a path of good governance for the people’s livelihoods and carry out sound policies that will ensure a harmonious and prosperous society for all”.

Hayashi also welcomed all the returning and new Nationalist MPs, and congratulated them on their hard fought victories. She cautioned them that there is much to be done in the upcoming legislative session, and urged them “to continue to be the voice and advocate for those in [their] constituencies”.

While Hayashi did not mention any policy goals for the upcoming legislative session. She and her party will likely deliberate on the upcoming budget a few months away as well as potential Cabinet picks. Her selection of Cabinet members will send a loud and clear signal of the direction her government is likely to take with regards to legislative agenda. She will have to balance the needs and wants of her party between returning MPs and the cohort of new MPs, as well as between the two main factions of her party.

The economy is likely to be front and center for the upcoming budget and legislative agenda. Being seen as good stewards of the economy propelled her party to victory, and being continued to be seen as such will ensure continued support among voters. A key decision her party will have to make will be trade policy with regard to the two international trade blocs and Hansopol. Her party remains divided on pursuing closer trade ties with TOEC, either via the pursuit of full membership or observer status, or building trade ties with both blocs and Hansopol. With exports only expected to increase, any uncertainty regarding trade policy will have profound impacts on economic growth.

Defence spending is also likely to become a key issue as budget deliberations begin prior to the tabling of the budget in Parliament. The Nationalists have already signalled their will to meet and exceed the Commonwealth of Nations defence spending targets. Her government had also moved forward with substantial defence equipment acquisitions during her state visit to Albany in 2079. It remains to be seen if the Nationalists will pursue additional foreign defence equipment purchases beyond the A-74 “Eagle” multirole fighters and the C-68 “Swan” transport aircraft. However, Defence Minister Jun Kimura had made several statements regarding the need to further invest in the domestic defence industry during meetings with corporate officials and on the campaign trail.

Incoming Members of Parliament and the President-elect will be sworn in sometime next month. Incumbent President Abe will likely approach the Nationalists, as the majority party, for the formation of the next government. Yuko Hayashi is all but guaranteed to continue her role as Prime Minister.

Monumental Budget Passes in Landslide
In the wake of her Social Democratic Party’s resounding victory in the 2080 September Snap Elections, bolstered by the unwavering support of their allied party, the New Dawn, Archon Jaina Jessero emerges triumphant. With a commanding supermajority in the Synedrio, she seizes upon her newfound mandate to enact bold change, championing a monumental Ꝟ8.3 trillion budget through the 2083 Fiscal Year.

This historic budget stands as a beacon of hope, a stark departure from the tumultuous events that precipitated the collapse of the previous administration. Archon Jessero's decisive leadership ensures the passage of this vital budget, addressing both the pressing international obligations of Mydia and the increasingly urgent domestic concerns.

A cornerstone of this budget is the allocation of nearly Ꝟ50 billion in aid to the Republic of Sabir, underscoring Mydic Empire's unwavering commitment as the primary financial guarantor since the Republic’s inception. Additionally, Archon Jessero unveils ambitious expansions to social programs, tackling climate change, childcare, housing, and revitalizing the national pension system. This also included a 2.2% increase in defense spending raising the Empire’s defense budget to some 4.1% of the total to help confront necessary overhauls to the various armed forces.

Despite opposition from voices such as Agamemnon Pegasos, who decry the budget as reckless, the Ministry of the Economy and the Imperial Budget Office swiftly silence dissent. Rigorous fiscal measures, including increasing corporate tax rates to a minimum of 28% from the existing 19% and redistributing wealth through higher capital gains and inheritance taxes, ensure fiscal equilibrium. Furthermore, there is an average increase of between 1-5% in taxes for households earning above Ꝟ62,000 annually for single income households and above Ꝟ110,000 for dual income households.

These bold initiatives mark a decisive break from the past, aiming to rein in the runaway deficits of previous administrations. Archon Jessero's steadfast resolve sets Mydia on a course of fiscal responsibility, poised to confront the myriad challenges ahead. Notably, the budget introduces a provision to raise the Imperial Household’s tax rate from 14% to 25% on income earned through their estates, properties, and brands. As the echoes of victory resound throughout the halls of power, Archon Jessero stands as a beacon of progress, leading Mydia into a new era of prosperity and unity.

Archon Introduces Electoral Reform Bill
With a supermajority firmly in place, Archon Jaina Jessero has personally spearheaded legislation aimed at abolishing the practice of snap elections, instead fixing the government's term at five years beginning from September 2080. This move seeks to address a longstanding issue, as since the 1990s, most administrations have completed their full mandates, with snap elections being triggered primarily during the tumultuous 2070s due to scandals and internal conflicts that led to the downfall of three separate administrations. However, this frequent turnover has engendered a sense of election fatigue among the populace, exacerbated by the unicameral structure of the national legislature, the Synedrio.

In the aftermath of the most recent September snap elections, which granted Jessero's Social Democratic Party (KKD) an outright majority and a supermajority when combined with their allied New Dawn Party (KNA), she pledged to reform the constitution and eliminate snap elections if such an outcome materialized.

The introduced bill aims to fulfill this promise by removing the provision for snap elections, ensuring that governing coalitions or parties retain power until the conclusion of their mandates at five-year intervals. Although scheduled for a week-long debate, opposition to the bill was minimal from the onset, even among factions led by the National Conservative Party (EKK) and their allies in the Confederal Party (SKK). Opposition Leader Agamemnon Pegasos publicly endorsed the bill following its submission by Archon Jessero, virtually guaranteeing its passage and heralding a new era of political stability within the Empire.

Major Cabinet Shuffle
Alexander Waverly has assumed the role of Union Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Nations, marking his departure from the position of Foreign Minister. His successor is Diana Prince, a backbencher representing New Haven’s Shoreline District in Parliament. Previously, Mrs. Prince held the position of Deputy Minister of Defense during Prime Minister Martha Prescott's initial administration from 2071 to 2076. Following her tenure in that role, she temporarily retired from official duties to focus on family matters, welcoming her daughters Minerva and Cleo with her husband, fellow MP Wesley Prince, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Public Safety.

Mrs. Prince's close relationship with incumbent Prime Minister Barbara Gordon, stemming from their college days as roommates and friends, has been noted by many observers as a factor in her return to a senior ministerial position.

During a press conference in New Gate, Prime Minister Gordon confirmed the significant reshuffle within the cabinet, which had been anticipated due to Ambassador Waverly's reassignment. Among the notable changes, Robyn Green transitioned from Defense Minister to Deputy Prime Minister, Donna Milton was promoted from Deputy Defense Minister to a senior role, and Edward Crowne replaced Penny Moore as Minister of Home Affairs. Moore, in turn, succeeded Justine Lawson as Minister of Justice, following Lawson's retirement from the senior post to focus on personal matters.

Some viewed Lawson's replacement as a reflection of shifting government sentiment regarding the detention of Mydic Duke Paul Atreides for alleged acts of terrorism. Foreign Minister Prince advocated for Atreides's repatriation to Mydia, signaling a desire to move past the contentious issue.

Media scrutiny also highlighted changes in six other ministries, including Eleanore Johnson assuming the role of Minister of Work and Pensions, Hope Gray taking over the Education Ministry, and Cole Doyle heading the Commerce portfolio. Simon Barnes was appointed Minister for Equalities, while Lyanna Stone assumed control of the State Security Ministry, succeeding longtime official Alexander Darling, who retired from government service to lead Vanguard Securities as CEO. The reshuffle was interpreted as a strategic move by Prime Minister Gordon to replace perceived loyalists of President Martha Prescott with individuals believed to align more closely with her own agenda, signaling a shift in the direction of government policy.

Investigation on AR767 Ended, The Plane is Still Missing. The CEO Resigned Over Compensation Scandal
Tanjung Nyiur, 22 October 2080 | MBS News Editorial Team

After 8 months the joint SAR team of Melewai, Hansopol and other countries searched for the Air Rangkong 767 plane which was reported missing on February 25 this year, unfortunately the search for the plane in the Metic Ocean has been announced. In a press conference held by the Republic of Melewai SAR Agency, Chief Investigator Wahyudi Yuanto explained that the search for the AR767 aircraft had reached a dead end and had found no significant signs of the aircraft's whereabouts. He also explained that the Metic Ocean currents during the investigation were not conducive and that his party had made every effort to find the whereabouts of the AR767 aircraft.

The families of the victims were very disappointed and also hysterical when they heard the news of the conference. The victim's family, who had been impatiently waiting for their family's whereabouts, had lost hope of being able to meet the people closest to them again, even if they were only lifeless bodies. A woman who is the mother of one of the victims said, "I have been waiting for my daughter who is going to work in Hansopol. When I heard that the plane my child was on was missing, I cried uncontrollably, I couldn't let it go of my sweet child. I can't let go of my child who can't yet make herself happy. I really didn't expect that my child would passed away before me and be in that situation. May Allah give the victims and their families a proper reward."

All Melewai officials expressed their condolences to the families of the missing victims. The Prime Minister of Melewai, Hutomo Rizal, said, "I am sorry for the tragedy of the loss of the AR767 plane that befell the victims. As the head of the Melewai government, I apologize for this tragedy. the victim can condone their departure and let them go to a better place.

Recently, the public has also been shocked by the news that the Air Rangkong company, which is the airline concerned, has not paid a single penny of compensation to the families of the victims. This news became popular on social media after the victim's family spoke up about this, then slowly but surely other families also said the same thing, that Air Rangkong never even released compensation information to the victim's family. Suddenly the public cursed and also put pressure on the company to provide compensation money. The public also criticized the CEO of Air Rangkong, Abdi Bukhari, and ordered him to be resigning from his position and being fired for being unprofessional and having no sense of responsibility.

And with widespread public pressure, the company finally stated that it would provide compensation to the victim's families amounting to M235,000.00 per family. And the CEO of Air Rangkong has also reportedly resigned from his position following a press conference held at Air Rangkong headquarter.

Albanese Retailer to Build Massive Superstores in Beteresk and Zenna

Albanese retail store "Co&Mo" (which stands for Convenient and Modern) is opening two super-sized locations in Vekkla. Co&Mo said that since Vekkeli Consumerism is on the rise the other 22 stores open in Vekkla would not be enough to what stores are reporting.

Since Madam President Guðmundsdóttir signed the executive order adding 22,000 jobs to the Vekkeli economy, it came with a slight pay raise. Vekkeli Steel, Concrete, Natural Gas, and other infrastructure employees are now making 18 Vekks per hour which means the Vekkeli Middle Class is starting to flourish and gain more spending power.

(Steel Worker): "I got 1700 Vekks on my last paycheck. That's about 400 more Vekks than what I was making before the Exec. Order. This is perfect because I get to pay my natural gas, phone, electricity, and grocery delivery bills and still have money for my new haircut, my new phone, and a suit for my wedding."

Because of people like the Steel worker who we interviewed, a pay bump means spending power. Co&Mo CEO Connolly Morgan was there for both groundbreaking ceremonies. He was in Zenna two days ago for the ceremony of the 175,000 square foot Superstore, as was notable attendee Former President Leemm. 510 people showed up to the groundbreaking ceremony in Zenna, marking a momentous day for the City as it receives its first Co&MO store.

Connolly Morgan then went to Beteresk the day after to help out with possibly the largest Co&Mo outside of Albany. This one will for sure be the largest in the nation at 195,000 square feet. Connolly Morgan had this to say at the Beteresk groundbreaking ceremony.

(CEO of Co&Mo Connolly Morgan): "Vekkla loves buying stuff! Because of the Vekkeli Markets being on the up and up and rising wages, these two stores are perfect for you! This one in particular will be a two stories store. It was designed by a Vekkeli Architect, includes state of the art technology from Matter Corp, and art from local artists in Beteresk. We chose Zenna and Beteresk as locations since those two cities are the fastest growing in Vekkla. Co&Mo is excited for this big expansion in the Vekkeli Market and will help relieve some of the stress from other Co&Mo locations here in Vekkla..."

Both Co&Mo locations will be opening around February 2081. Co&Mo has been in Vekkla since 2041 and has served customer service for 22.5 million people since then.

Vice President Ýmir Filipsson to Visit President Prescott of Albany

The Vice President is in Albany this week as he is meeting with Albanese President Martha Prescott to go over how Vekkla can increase help for Mahra and Eirea.

In their meeting, Vice President Ýmir Filipsson spoke to Albanese President Prescott on what Vekkla needs to do to support Mahra and Eirea.

As of right now, Albany is the largest buyer of Vekkeli Steel and Concrete. At least 70% of what is bought by Albany goes to the mainland of the country. Ýmir Filipsson had this to say about it.

(VP Filipsson): "Vekkla produces very large quantities of steel and concrete. We are going to increase production of both by 5%. Eirea needs Vekkeli Steel and Concrete more than ever right now to repair damaged buildings by the insurgents that terrorized the islands..."

The Steel and Concrete industries aren't the only ones getting a quota increase for production. The amount of food being exported to Mahra and Eirea will have to increase by 3%, allowing the Vekkeli Government to give the Agricultural Industry a much needed boost.

(VP Ýmir Filipsson): "This is a great time foe the Agricultural Industry as they are preparing for the Spring growing season and the Autumn harvest. A total of 32.5 million Vekks are being awarded to the Agricultural Industry not just for their contributions to both Eirea and Mahra, but also to up the quality of the goods we ship out to both. We must increase our contributions!"

The Head Director of the Defense Department says that they will also be giving orders for 18,000 personnel to be shipped to Mahra and Eirea to help strengthen the coalition to support South Ma'rib and Eirea.

Betrovisk to Gain New Area Code

For about 35 years the City of Betrovisk has had two area codes divided between the Eastern and Western portions of the city. Now that a bustling Shopping and Urban Living district has been open for 15 years, quite a large swath of people have moved there and have changed their telephone numbers in the process.

Before 2065, Southern Betrovisk had about 1,050 people. By 2080, this part of the city now has 2,112 people. When the shopping district started to be built, it started to create a buzz between retailers and real estate companies alike, racing for land with a low price tag. With more people in the area, more phone service towers had to be built to accommodate the higher and ever increasing population. Since the opening of the shopping district, a staggering amount of phone numbers with the 1733 (West Betrovisk) and 1743 (East Betrovisk) area codes were assigned... 910,000 (as of 2080) to be exact.

So what is the new area code? Betrovisk Telecoms and Communications company "Símaþjónustu og Fleira" (in Cambrian "Phone Services and More"), who owns the two area codes in Betrovisk and other area codes of the extreme north and mountainous regions, said they settled on 2007. The reasoning was "all the other good ones were being used already".

Area Code 2007 will be up and in service by mid-2081 when the 1733 and 1743 area codes are filled up.

Let’s Advance the 30-Year Plan with Victorious Courage!

Respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee traveled to the City of Sariwon in the Province of Kyongsang to inspect newly built homes for thousands of Koryoans in South Koryo, which is part of the glorious 30-year plan for southern development. Respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee was pleased with the great care and consideration the builders took in order to build up this great city to something even grander.

The residents of these new homes cheered as respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee arrived, with shouts of “Long Live Seol Sun-Hee and the 30-Year Plan!” echoing all throughout the development.

With her great ambition to turn South Koryo, a land that many enemies believe to be just a desert, into a world-class ideal land of the people, the greatest country on Vesta, respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee unveiled further projects that would happen in not only Sariwon, but the entirety of South Koryo, which include new factories, new homes and flats, recreational centers, and other workplaces for the people, which will magnificently and gloriously bolster the nation’s population and economy, showing to the World that the might of Koryo is limitless, and that Koryoans, under the guidance of the respected Empress, are unlimited in their potential!

Opposition party leaders resign; uncertain future ahead
12/11/2080

▶⠀⚪─────────────────⠀0:00/ 5:37 ───○ 🔊

The results of the 2080 General Election has lead to celebrations among ruling party members, but has led to much soul searching for members of the opposition parties. The main opposition parties, particularly the Civic Democratic Party and the Progressive Party, suffered crushing defeats at the hands of a resurgent Nationalist Party during the election.

Once the leader of the Democratic Alliance bloc of parties, the Civic Democratic Party had only secured 24 seats, its poorest showing since the restoration of democracy in 2049. The Social Democratic Party on the other hand, once a junior party in the bloc, had gained an additional 2 seats and has strengthened its position as the senior party in the bloc. The Progressive Party on the other hand, saw their number of seats fall to 6, another historically poor result.

Both parties were particularly hard hit by the collapse of many of their urban strongholds, which were previously thought to be safe seats.

Incumbent CDP leader Kentaro Toyoda officially tendered his resignation today at a press conference at the CDP headquarters in Chukyo. Toyoda expressed his thanks to party officials and supporters. He called his time as leader “a humbling experience” and that he was “grateful to have served the people of Fujiwara and Chiho”. Toyoda has also stated that he will remain the MP for Fujiwara-12th and continue to faithfully serve his constituents. He secured his re-election as MP with a wide margin during the general election.

Ayane Nakamura of the Progressives had also signalled her intent to resign following the conclusion of the election, and is expect to formally resign in the coming days as her party meets this month for discussions. Having also won her re-election as the MP for Fujiwara-17th, Nakamura is expected to remain with her party, but likely in an advisory role.

The losses among the main opposition parties have provided a reckoning for political strategists and the leadership of both parties, who will have to now answer to party members and supporters alike.

Taro Yamadera, law professor at the University of Fujiwara and former Justice Minister under the First Toyoda government, has stated that the opposition “must move past the election results and gather around a new generation of leaders”. Yamadera noted that voters have grown weary of the centre-left bloc’s handling of economic policy and that there is a general dissatisfaction among voters for their policy proposals. “This highlights the dominant role the economy played during the elections and offers the bloc a path forward should they attempt to once again grow their base of support” said Yamadera.

Miyuki Ishikawa of the Social Democratic Party, now more than ever the standard-bearer for the opposition in the post-election political environment, had acknowledged both party leaders contributions following their announcement of their intents to resign shortly after the election. She has emphasized the need for both the CDP and the Progressives to name a leader prior to the tabling of the budget at the start of the next parliamentary session in December. “We must be united in our opposition against the Nationalists as they prepare to table a budget of reckless cuts in the name of defence spending increases that do not benefit the average Chihoese” said Ishikawa.

With a reduced seat count, the opposition parties in the Democratic Alliance must now contend with weakened decision making powers and an uphill battle in presenting a moderating force to the Nationalists legislative agenda. While some uncertainty remains for the opposition, the failure of the Nationalists and the Justice Party to secure a two-thirds majority offers the main opposition parties a path forward and a silver lining in an otherwise bleak election outcome.

With the victory of the ostensibly pro-Democratic President-elect Nobuo Sakai, the opposition may have other means of keeping the Nationalist-Justice coalition in check. While largely a ceremonial role, Presidents have discretionary veto powers under the current constitutional framework. However, political commentators such as Yamadera have cautioned against the use of the discretionary veto powers especially when the ruling party has a substantial majority in Parliament, as it “may upend the unspoken agreement on legislative interference by the ceremonial executive”.

The opposition Democratic Alliance parties are expect to meet shortly before the beginning of the new parliamentary session and budget deliberations. The Social Democratic Party is likely to continue in its leadership role for the main opposition bloc.

Park Hwa-Young Case: Day 1

The highly anticipated, high profile cour case of a woman who wanted to immigrate her 8 year old to Koryo. Park Hwa-Young's grandfather, Thor Jørgensen, brought the concerns up to Park Ha-Eun, the mother and legal guardian of Park Hwa-Young (the 8 year old being defended by her late father's family).

In a touching testimony, this is what grandmother, Greta Jørgensen, had to say to Park Ha-Eun about her and her safety...

(Greta Jørgensen): "Hwa-Young, I love you. I have seen you grow from a tiny bean sprout to the wonderful eight year old girl. You are smart and loving, and I would not let your mother take you to a place like Koryo. From the research we have done, she is far more likely to develop depression and anxiety. There are literal games children play on the playground that demeans self respect and respect for others."

(Judge): "So what is it the you and the rest of the Jørgensen family are trying to do here? Why are you so worried for her safety? I mean her mother is just trying to get her to live with her other family. Violent-in-nature games is not something to be worried about. All kids are pretty violent at times."

(Attorney Gorton Arud): "Mrs. Jørgensen is saying that while seeing Ms. Park Hwa-Young grow up to the age she currently is, Hwa-Young has only spoken Freltic and has only known the Franconia Empire. Ms. Ha-Eun, according to testimony from Hwa-Young, said that Ms. Ha-Eun did not specify why they were moving to Koryo. She had lied to the child stating it was a school holiday for three days. Begavet Barneskole (the school where Park Hwa-Young attended third year Primary School) Principal Nora Dahl said that five days before Thor Jørgensen was able to call out Park Ha-Eun publically for potentially endangering Park Hwa-Young, Ms. Ha-Eun went to Begavet Barneskole to withdrawal Hwa-Young from school permanently, not giving any detailed information as to why.

(Nora Dahl on Stand): "Park Ha-Eun stopped by the school and said she needed to pull Park Hwa-Young out of the school system completely. As per routine, we have to ask the reason. She stood there, stammered, and then brought notes saying Park Hwa-Young was terminally ill and needed to 'seek treatment' in Koryo. We understand these certain diagnoses and some of them are very time sensitive. It struck me as odd. Ha-Eun had a certain sense of urgency for me to file the paper work."

(Defense Attorney Gorton Arud): "And what were her mannerisms like. Was she sweating, dilated pupils? Shakiness?"

(Nora Dahl): "None of those, no. She just kept on telling me to 'hurry and to 'make sure she is permanently erased from the education system'".

(Gorton Arud): "So she wanted her completely out of the system? Seems a little odd since she'd most likely wants to keep those documents for the immigration process to show where Ms. Hwa-Young's education level is so the Koryoan Government can assign her a school."

Park Ha-Eun was questioned about why she was trying to erase Hwa-Young's name from the system completely. She had this to say:

(Park Ha-Eun): "Nobody should know that she has education done here. She needs to start over. She could not follow the work and needs to be 'with people of her own intellect'".

(Prosecutor Njörðr Asmus): "See. She really care enough about her daughter to allow her to start over."

(Defense Attorney Gorton Arud): "This is not true. How could the education be too advanced for a straight A's?! Your Honor, in my hands is a copy of Park Hwa-Young's report cards from the last two years. Do Hwa-Young's marks look of that of a struggling student?"

(Judge): "Why, no. Not really. Ms. Hwa-Young seems to be very intelligent in arithmetic, writing, language arts, reading, and even athletics. How is the education system too difficult for your daughter, Ms. Park? She seems to be doing fine in everything. If anything the school district should promote her education level from 3rd year to 4th year."

(Park Ha-Eun): "She..."

(Defense Attorney Gorton Arud): "Your Honor, if I may ask Ms. Park a couple of questions?"

(Judge): "Please do. I need more information on Ms. Park's involvement in Hwa-Young's schoolwork. A patent should be heavily involved in their child's work."

(Gorton Arud): "How many times a week do you check your child's grades online?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "I check them twice every week. I know she is a good student, but I, as her mother, feel that Hwa-Young can strive in a better place. Koryo is her place."

(Gortin Arud): "If you do check her grades that frequently, why would you say that her marks are struggling? Her report card (thank you to her beautiful school for providing this on short notice this week by the way) says otherwise. Also, why are you trying to erase her name from the school system? This is only proving our point that Koryoans are hostile to people of Valentian origin."

(Prosecutor Njörðr Asmus [angrily]): "INNVENDING! The defense is trying to get her in trouble with the nation she and her daughter are immigrating to! If she says anything out of line in this high profile court case, it could lead to serious consequences when Ms. Ha-Eun gets to Koryoan soil!"

(Judge): "This is true, but we cannot say that Hwa-Young is going to Koryo just yet. The trial is not over."

(Njörðr Asmus): "Your Honor. You simply can not shrug this concern off! She would be in serious danger if that happened. The Koryoan media is able to see this as well and report it back to their Supreme Leader."

(Judge): "I'm rejecting that statement. The Franconian Government may not have a solid grasp or understanding of the Koryoan Judiciary Process, but she is in the FE right now. Her speech is protected by law. Ms. Park should not fear speaking out about what she is going through... I have heard enough for today. We will continue the trial in 3 days starting on the topic of why Ms. Park wants to remove all traces of Hwa-Young from the Franconian Public school system. COURT ADJOURNED! [bangs gavel]"

Day One of the trial for Park Hwa-Young's future has just finished. So far, we have learned that Park Hwa-Young is a model student when Park Ha-Eun says she isn't "understanding the work" in school. It seems as though Park Ha-Eun is embarrassed to admit Hwa-Young is striving in Franconia.

The first session of the Park Hwa-Young Case took 3 and a half hours to complete by the amount of information that we cannot report until after the end of the trial. Day 2 of the Park Hwa-Young Case will be televised live on FENN and FENN Now (our new streaming service on Kiwi, Macrohard, and Simsam devices) on 22 Dec 2080.

4.8 Magnitude Vestaquake Rocks Deep Jungle

A Vestaquake rocked the deep jungles of the Central Main Island this morning. Several small towns and villages near Dyp Jungel Nasjonalpark reported slight shaking just hours before the quake. Seismologists at the Frankisk Rike Seismologi og Forskningssenter (FRSF) say that at about 4:55 this morning, a small swarm caused the region to shake lightly, but at a constant rand of 3.4 to 3.6 readings on the seismograph.

At about 7:07 am, the 4.8 struck near Dyp Jungel Nasjonalpark, just 4 km below the surface causing the quake to feel more severe than it really was.

(Park Ranger): "We are closing the Dyp Jungel Nasjonalpark for a little while until shaking and aftershocks have been reported at a 2.5 and lower. Please be advised that we are assessing the park for any damage to tourism centers and will have emergency crews on standby if the 4.8 wasn't the last one."

As of now, a total of 218 aftershocks have been reported, the strongest being a 3.1. The FRSF has placed an "Active Seismic Zone" advisory for the Dyp Jungel Nasjonalpark region and surrounding areas.

News Anchor Gets Fired on Live TV

A news anchor from a different news channel, FETV: Østkysten, was fired for misconduct in the workplace. About 45 minutes before the news broadcast, Chief Meteorologist Hans Gustav Filip was seen cornering a cameraman for "making him look ugly" on air when he got emails from viewers saying they can see his makeup lines. The cameraman, who wishes to remain anonymous gave this statement to FENN saying:

"It isn't me who made him ugly. Maybe if he were to blend his cover up more, he'd not have such hideous lines on his face. The quality on these cameras are 5K with a maximum 85 fps. To say the least, the alcohol coming from his breath tells us what kind of person he actually is."

FETV: Østkysten Human Resources Department Head Chairwoman, Greta Björn, said that when she called in Filip to speak to her, he was carrying a bottle of Silfurgæs, a popular imported Vekkeli vodka. She dismissed the drunken reporter and called him a cab to take him home.

When Hans Gustav Filip returned to work the next day, he was called into HR again so Ms. Björn can speak to him again. Saying at some point in the day, he was going to be sent home early, which led to the viral news clip blowing up on InstaFace...

(Meteorologist Hans Gustav Filip in the video clip): "[cheerful tone transitioning to a confused tone]... and speaking of rain, I have to rain on my own parade today as... what's going on here? [Chuckles nervously as he is listening to earpiece] Okay. I guess I have to read this from the teleprompter. That was orders given by my boss... [clears throat] ...have to rain on my own parade today as I cannot keep this job for the life of me. I come in late every day, often delay the newscast, have no respect for my coworkers and cannot continue to do my job with the amount of alcohol I consume... I'm fired?... Well. It was nice knowing you and I apologize for this awkward interruption. Rom Abel will be finishing my weather report."

Franconian Justice System deemed illegitimate

The Franconian Imperialists have revealed their true faces, and putting on full display to the World why their justice system and courts cannot be trusted to handle the Park Ha-Eun case. It has become clear, that with the past few months with rampant anti-Koryoan incidents in Franconia, that a Franconian court will be unable to remain impartial, and therefore the defense will stand no realistic chance of winning due to extremely unfair and racist biases from the Franconian Justice System and people. The Franconian Government and Press have consistently lied about the Koryoan nation, and slandering her people without remorse. This is unsurprising in a nation such as Franconia, however, as it is common knowledge that the conditions there are barely fit for human survival, and the Franconian public merely remain jealous of what the Koryoan people have under the leadership of respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee, and do not wish to allow anybody else to see the truth.

Regardless of this however, the Koryoan Government has announced publicly several guarantees they will make to the Park Family should the case somehow result in the favor of justice and truth:

-Park Hwa-Young will gain protection, and assigned a Royal Army Agent that she will be protected by.
-The Jørgensen Family will be allowed to visit Park Hwa-Young any time they wish
-The FE Embassy will be allowed to visit Park Hwa-Young whenever they wish to perform welfare checks.

Park Family Speaks on Upcoming Franconia Trial

With the unjust and illegal trial being held by the illegitimate Franconian Court underway, Park Ha-Eun’s family in Koryo were interviewed by VOK for their thoughts on the matter. Present was Ha-Eun’s parents, who are also Hwa-Young’s grandparents.

Park Ri-Sung (Mother) was reportedly upset by the baseless Franconian accusations that they or any Koryoan would dare mistreat their granddaughter, saying “How can they even know what we are like? They do not know us, or our people. This is all a blatant and unnecessary attack on our family by the Franconian Courts, and it pains us all to watch this illegitimate trial take away our chance at seeing our granddaughter.”

Ri-Sung then began sobbing at the prospect of never meeting her own granddaughter.
======
What goal does the Franconian Court wish to gain by tearing apart an innocent family overseas, taking a young girl away from her own mother. It puts on full display the realities of the politics that Franconia’s courts wish to play with an innocent quiet family, and the failure of the justice system of that nation.

YEPV Explodes on Launch Pad

In Kuangye's Louti Space Center, a routine launch turned disastrous as a catastrophic failure crippled operations, leaving the facility inoperable. The incident occurred during the ignition of the YEPV "Huohua" launch vehicle's engines, intended to deploy satellites to geostationary orbit.

Damage to the launch tower and sound suppression system was extensive, prompting investigations into the recurring issues plaguing the YEPV's YF62 rocket engines. This isn't the first time such problems have surfaced, with previous failures of the YF62s used in Trectomer's Yunshu Launch Vehicle. Suspicions also point to a potential fault in the launch pad's sound suppression system as a contributing factor to the failure.

As repairs are underway at the primary pad, operations at LSC are expected to halt for several months. Meanwhile, the entire YEPV fleet remains grounded pending thorough investigation, with a mandate to inspect sound suppression systems across all of Trectomer's launch pads.

The seriousness of the situation is compounded by the fact that certain variants of the YEPV are intended for human flight. The TSEA (Trectomer Space Exploration Agency) has faced criticism for approving the YEPV, a relatively new platform, for human missions, and many claim that the approval was given in order to receive further funding while making reliability a secondary priority.

President Dailing Approves Significant Military Support for Trectomerian Forces in Hadramar Offensive

President Dailing has authorized a substantial shipment of military equipment, including artillery shells, rockets, bombs, and long-range missiles, to bolster Trectomerian forces engaged in the offensive against the illegitimate state of Hadramar.

In addition to the shipment, the PTS Shoucheng has been strategically positioned in the waters near Mahra, accompanied by the relocation of two squadrons of JF30 and JFG 24 fighter aircraft to bases within Mahra itself.

Coalition offensives against Hadramar have gained momentum, steadily advancing deeper into the region. Currently, a formidable force of 65,000 Trectomerian troops stands deployed in Mahra, marking the largest deployment by Trectomer to a single nation in its history.

BPA Leader Arrested

Weeks after Governor Anka Borisavljević was assassinated while traveling through Osejik, the Novak administration has announced that AIC agents raided the BPA’s headquarters arresting Tomáš Bartos, the leader of the terrorist organization. The Blovistan Purity Army, although not claiming responsibility for the attack, is suspected of it after there recent activity in the Halmokov Riots.

Although unannounced previously, President Novak did mention in a press conference last week that the assassination of Yurgovian Governor Anka Borisavljević, “was the final straw.” And, since the attack on Governor Borisavliević, the Novak administration had stated several times they would start to take action against the BPA directly.

The Blue Party and other conservative Blovistanian groups are in uproar after the announcement, Chancellor Josef Havel called the arrest, “an infringement on civil rights” and a, “violation of the rights of proper Blovistanian citizens”. Later in the same speech, Havel attacked his colleague calling Novak, “a tyrant and traitor to Blovistanians”.

It has been announced that Tomáš Bartos will stand trial in The Blovistanic High Court for two accounts of terrorism and one account of treason. The date of the trial has yet to be finalized.

Park Hwa-Young Case: Day 2

Today marks the second day of the trial of Jørgensen vs. Park (dubbed as the "Park Hwa-Young Case). Last session, we learned that Ha-Eun is not involved in Hwa-Young's school life. She attempted to erase the 8 year old's name from the school district where Hwa-Young attended 3rd Year. The judge, shocked by this, ended last session saying he wanted to ask why she wanted to do this... That leads to this session.

Prosecutor Njörðr Asmus made a really strong case for Ha-Eun when she retook the stand and renounce her statement from last time.

Ha-Eun explained why she was so nervous and could not answer or speak at a fast pace. This is what we heard while Defense Attorney Gorton Arud was cross examining Ms. Park.

(DA Gorton Arud): "Ms. Park, I understand you were feeling a little uneasy last session, so we will take moments to talk about what happened and to understand why you want to renounce what you said three days ago?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "Thank you for hearing me put. I really appreciate you allowing me to speak again. I am good today."

(DA Gorton Arud): "What do you mean by 'good'?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "I was running a small bit late last session and forgot to take my anxiety medication before Hwa-Young and I left for the courthouse. I was recently diagnosed with anxiety and broken heart syndrome. Ms. Asmus has the papers proving that right here..."

(PA Njörðr Asmus): "Mr. Bailiff, here you go, sir."

[Bailiff walks from Njörðr Asmus' stand to collect the paper as the room fills with silence of nothing but stray coughs and bright pink high heels clacking on the wooden floor]

(Judge): [Thoroughly reads medical records] "The diagnosis was from 2 months before the trial. If the medical record was 6 months old, it would have been unacceptable. The court accepts this piece of information. It says here you take Valentminax? Will the side effects affect the way we proceed with the trial today?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "No, Your Honor. I'm focused and ready to go"

With that swift interaction between the Judge and Park Ha-Eun, they called her to the stand for her to give her updated statement on her involvement in Park Hwa-Young's education.

(DA Gorton Arud): "Ms. Park, a few days ago, you said the education was too hard for your daughter. Do you still believe that?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "I do not. My daughter is a brilliant kid. She can be stubborn at times when she doesn't understand them though. She will try to have me understand it and get red in the face crying until I help her."

(DA Gorton Arud): "Does she speak to you often? It sounds as though she could have a hard time understanding some things. What kid doesn't? But what I don't understand is how she has this good of grades. Does she do her homework?"

(Ha-Eun): "Yes. I often have to correct it because her handwriting can be a little messy and she makes some pretty big mistakes"

(DA Gorton Arud): "How often do you have to correct her work?"

(Ha-Eun): [Meekly] "All the time..."

[The courtroom erupts into sound of chatter about what was just said. The judge bangs his gavel.]

(Judge): "Order! Order!" [Courtroom quiets down] "Are you telling me you do her homework? How is she supposed to learn like that?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "I love her! Okay?! I can't see her struggle like that. She cries to me every night about the mean kids that call her names on the playground because she got 3/9 answers right on a spelling test. Who needs to know how to spell 'pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis'?! It's obsurd! That should be a collegiate word, not on a 3rd Year Student's spelling test!"

(Judge): "Ms. Park! Order!" [Bangs gavel] "Look. I'm being real with you right now, okay. I'm the type of person who cuts no ice and will want to say everything straightforward. Your daughter should be learning on her own! The word on that test isn't standard on a 3rd Year spelling test in the first place. Blame the teachers for that one."

(Ha-Eun): "I am! It isn't right. What kind of school system allows teachers to do that?"

(Judge): "Let's get back on track. Ms. Park, given this information I say you're responsible enough to take care of Hwa-Young. May I ask a question though? Do you attend 100% of the teacher conferences mentioned?"

(Park Ha-Eun): "I try to, but sometimes I get caught up at my office job. I often call the school and let them know that I'd be willing to reschedule on my days off. The answer is an almost immediate and resounding 'yes'."

After the court talked about Park Ha-Eun's involvement with Hwa-Young's education, they moved on to speaking to Hwa-Young about her understanding of the work she does at school by having her solve a 3rd Year level equation.

(Defense Attorney Gorton Arud): "Hwa-Young, we're going to do something with you. I have brought out a SmartBoard for you. I want to see how you can do with this maths problem. Can you do that for me?"

(Hwa-Young): "Yes."

(DA Gorton Arud): "Alright. Here is the first one... what is 3 multiplied by 5?"

(Hwa-Young): "Uhhh.... [counts on fingers while singing a song she learned from school] 15?"

(DA Gorton Arud): "Good. What about 8 divided by 4?"

(Hwa-Young): "Hmm... [counts on fingers. She starts to get confused.]

(DA Gorton Arud): "That is fine. We can be done if you'd like."

[Hwa-Young returns to the Defense stand]

(PA Njörðr Asmus): "This proves the Prosecution's point. Schooling in the FE is too difficult for her. She is operating at a 2nd Year level..."

(DA Gorton Arud): "INNVENDING!"

(Judge): "On what grounds?"

(DA Gorton Arud): "Njörðr Asmus is assuming something from just one example."

(PA Njörðr Asmus): "INNVENDING! You think you are getting to a point, Mr. Arud, but I assure you that you're wrong. As you can remember, Ms. Park stated that at home SHE does Hwa-Young's schoolwork when she deems it difficult or hard to understand. Your Honor, might I point that there are no laws against a mother doing her daughter's homework for the benefit of the child's education?"

(Judge): "You're certainly right... Hmm... maybe we're looking at this all wrong. It seems as though Park Ha-Eun loves her daughter to the point to where she is is willing to finish her school work when it is stressful to the girl. We will continue this trial with the final day of the trial in three days. I will review the case and all that was said during the course of the trial. Day three will also consist of closing statements from both the Defense and the Prosecution, as well as the verdict. Court adjourned!" [Bangs gavel]

An interesting day today in court as the Judge was expected to ask about why Park Ha-Eun wanted to take Hwa-Young's name out of the school district system completely. The subject was not brought up and the topic led on to where Park Hwa-Young's understandings.

Ha-Eun's statements ended up looking truthful. It may completely destroy the Defense's case on Park Ha-Eun not being an involved parent. We'll have more of the Park Hwa-Young Case when it ends.

100 Percent Humidity in Saint Jonas

As weather conditions start to clear up after ot rains, it usually leaves for a really hot and sticky day. That's what happened in Saint Jonas yesterday after a 2 day rain event passed through the capital. Weather conditions cleared up with some heat pushing in with it leaving for unpleasant conditions and 100 percent humidity!

Residents in Saint Jonas today are happy for the mist-like humidity to be gone after it got to record levels. People posting to InstaFace that they will be sleeping with umbrellas, having to squeegee the floors, walls, and ceilings to prevent water damage.

(Resident 1): "I had to use all of my plastic wrap to cover my couches. I'm a baker so it is a good thing I had plenty for this [giggles]"

(Resident 2): "My wife and I had to get up every three minutes to wipe off the ceiling. I know it can never rain inside of your home, but this was pretty dang close."

Saint Jonas Mayor, Loki Ragnar, has said that even government offices and building were not safe.

Millions of files and important documents were damaged when found in the office the next day. Important paperwork such as employee emergency files, city planning, and documents regarding the upgrade for Saint Jonas' subway system and LiteRail (a private business in the public transport industry who paid for the 119.1 million Valentes street cars that run a total of 8 miles of Saint Jonas) street car upgrades.

Prime Minister Anker also said he had to end the Parliamentary session early since the humidity made three MPs pass out. He said that dangerous co ditions like this will provoke a "No Go" day for the safety and wellbeing of the MPs.

The Prime Minister said that the government should not be slowing down because of water damage to important documents. The FE Government has all works in progress backed up to a secure government server protected by the FEBI so all documents and folders can be re-printed

Special Elections Almost Over

Former Prime Minister Hildiiga Fjölden signed a law effectively giving Kobra Naturreservat a small slice of representation.

Newly elected Governor of Kobra Naturreservat, Ingrid Nielsen-Akselsen, said she is excited for this change.

(Governor Nielsen-Akselsen): "No longer will we have to make a fuss to get what we need. No longer can they control how we run our territory. This is a territory screaming for help for decades. Our lands flood every time is rains, we have zero tsunami protection, and we want that port built in Saint Griffin (on the southwesternmost point of the territory)! It is a nightmare and we are glad to be electing these four individuals to represent us in Parliament."

According to UVOTEFE there are only four candidates in that race, giving all of them a guaranteed win. By law, the Elections Ministry has to see elections out all the way through whether on territories or the mainland and cannot end the Election early on the basis of a "guaranteed win".

2081 New Year Welcomed in Koryo

The Year of 2080 is coming to a close, seemingly as soon as it began, and the first day of 2081 is approaching fast. Such an eventful year is to be followed up with another eventful year, with many sporting events scheduled to take place in 2081 such as the Olympics.

As the New Year approaches, respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee and the Royal Family inspected New Years Celebrations and Preparations in major cities such as Pyongyang, Ryongyang, Kaesong, Hyesan, and Boseong, where she was met with joyous applause and cheers wherever the dear leader went!

As the night began to approach, respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee attended a concert held in Ryongyang’s “July Victory” Stadium, where different bands and singers performed songs welcoming the New Year (https://youtu.be/rVsaOYZl3E0?si=tMKquvVxmjz71m3A) and even a new release, singing about all the glorious achievements of the respected Empress! (https://youtu.be/lylFyaxHCsA?si=BInxQUKpMh2vgc0Z)

As the sky darkened, respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee travelled to the Kim Il-Sung Square, where preparations were complete for the 2081 New Year Military Parade. Respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee arrived and conducted an inspection of the 34th Parade Regiment as the Royal Army Band played their inspection march (https://youtu.be/r_Y4EccBN9k?si=c8v-5VE1BcOUv49-)

Respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee and the Royal Family were then escorted to the main balcony of the Palace of the Sun, arriving in front of a crowd who cheered the respected Empress’ name with happiness, where the dear leader delivered her annual New Year’s address to the people.

“Citizens of Koryo, I wish to give my sincerest thanks for the attendance of this New Years’ celebration. This year, we have started a monumental development of our glorious nation with the strength of the 30-Year Plan. We have also faced many struggles and trials. We have sent overseas more soldiers than in the history of our glorious nation of 701 years. Natural Disasters and Foreign Disputes have also put us to the test. But time and time again, we have proven to the World that the Koryoan People are an unbending and unshaken people, whose glorious destiny is unstoppable, and the success of our beautiful country will continue throughout the centuries as the greatest nation on Vesta.”

The crowd cheered and applauded, cheering “Long Live respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee! We give our lives to the cause!”

With the speech concluded, the Annual Military Parade Began, with soldiers from different armies marching together in unison together. First came units from the Koryoan Royal Army’s Light Infantry and Mechanized Infantry, which put on full display the superiority of the Koryoan Defense Force’s training and technology, which has been battle tested and proven to be a superior and worthy force!

Following came Naval Infantry and Sailors from the Koryoan Royal Navy, who marched with such discipline and strength, it would terrify any enemy army that they would surrender from simply marching!

Last but not least came units from the Royal Air Force, as superior Koryoan fighter jets flew overhead, putting on a grand airshow for the people to watch.

As the last troops marched and took their place, the Royal Honor Guard came marching down the Parade Line, carrying the National Flag of Koryo.

Respected Empress Seol Sun-Hee gathered the attention of all troops: “Parade Units, Attention! Salute to the National Flag of the Kingdom of Koryo!”

As in one fluid motion, all troops saluted to the national flag, which was being prepared to be raised. The Honor Guards’ boots struck the ground hard and gloriously, sending shockwaves that would send enemies into a cowering retreat.

As the Honor Guard began to hoist the national flag, the national anthem (https://youtu.be/0AqsnsVawxI?si=2Uc6mS4komuVrR2k) began to play, everyone who heard it was brought to tears of patriotism as everyone sang together in unison, a harmonious and unifying melody that the National Anthem of Koryo is. Passionate singing could be heard all throughout the land as the last seconds of 2080 came to a close. Just as the national anthem finished, the Bells inside the Palace of the Sun rang. 2081 had finally arrived, and the Koryoan People continue to work hard for the good of the country ahead of them!

Happy New Year from KCNA!

Parties Begin Campaigning for Parliamentary Elections
January 1, 2081
By: Noémi Prietene

With the start of the New Year Montagmer’s Parliamentary Elections are finally underway as parties start campaigning for their positions amongst the Government. Montagmer’s Right wing Freedom Party (PLM) has surprisingly been polling at the top of the charts with 28% voter approval, surpassing their main rivals the PDSM Social Democratic Party (22%) and the PPM People’s Party (21%). A drastic change from the 2077 election where PLM came in 3rd with just 17.2% of the vote, massively overshadowed by the PPM which received 40% of the total votes.

Political scientists speculate this change is largely influenced by the nations push towards the Valentian Alliance which has been recorded to not necessarily ‘popular’ among most of the population as Montagieran Patriotism markets the fear of open borders, losing economic independence, and overwhelmingly the threat of potential conflict with the opposing Commonwealth of Nations.

The PPM’s policies on immigration have also been pushed into a negative light by Messians as the nation has agreed to take in an influx of asylum seekers from the Ma’rib region in recent years, many of which bring their worship of Iflah with them.

The PPM fears that a PLM victory in November could destroy the nation’s opportunity in joining the VA and could threaten to bring Montagmer back into the isolation it’s resided in since the start of the New Cold War.

Mahra Surge Underway
Prime Minister Barbara Gordon, flanked by Defense Minister Donna Milton and Foreign Minister Diana Prince, addressed the press on the steps of the Parliament building in New Gate. Gordon outlined the deployment of 55,000 additional troops to Mahra, aiming to bolster ongoing anti-separatist operations in Eastern Mahra. Their mission focused on encircling the rebel stronghold of Hadramut and reclaiming control of other major eastern cities still held by insurgents. Gordon reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Union of Albany for its ally, Mahra, emphasizing the continued presence of 150,000 troops until the middle of the next year. This significant reinforcement became possible through the resolution of conflict in the state of Eirea, reallocating experienced forces to Mahra to expedite the resolution of affairs there, particularly in preparation for the impending assault on Hadramut.

Defense Minister Milton elaborated on the reduction of troop levels in the Eirean Isles, following negotiations with separatist factions. Several armed groups surrendered voluntarily, while investigations into atrocities and terrorist activities were ongoing. She praised Military Governor General William Morrow's commitment to prioritizing civilian safety over military objectives in resolving the conflict, which had devolved into a quagmire over the past two years. The past couple months had seen a snowball effect of separatist groups wanting to surrender in return for amnesty as their cause became ever more snuffed out by the sheer response by Albany and its allies.

Foreign Minister Prince provided insights into the intervention in Mahra, highlighting its coordination with the civilian government of the Sultanate led by Prince-Regent Farouk. The deployment was also in sync with Commonwealth of Nations partners such as Trectomer, Vekkla, and Koryo, each contributing substantial forces. The recent Commonwealth summit affirmed official support for Mahra's diplomatic recognition. Prince announced the establishment of an official liaison office in Azradan, Mahra's largest city, facilitating diplomatic endeavors between the Commonwealth and the Sultanate, marking another step towards international recognition despite ongoing disputes.

Prince also disclosed ongoing discussions with her Sartorian counterpart regarding the Ma’rib civil war, aiming to sway policy away from continued recognition of the Ma’ribite Government-in-Exile. She emphasized the futility of reunification efforts between Mahra and Sabir under Ma’rib's governance, noting increasing support for recognizing Sabir among Sartoria’s allies. The lack of recognition for Mahra from the Valentian Alliance while the Commonwealth of Nations refused to recognize Sabir, exacerbated tensions, fueling perceptions of a cold war dynamic and intensifying criticisms that the Ma’rib conflict had become a diplomatic if not military proxy battleground.

Prime Minister Gordon concluded by announcing her forthcoming visit to Mahra after the New Year celebrations. Her agenda included meetings with Prince Regent Farouk and attendance at the fifth birthday celebration of Sultana Farah, who had returned from exile in Koryo. Gordon acknowledged Mahra's turbulent history, marked by political upheavals and regicide, underscoring the significance of her visit amidst persistent unrest. She expressed her intention to personally assess the situation, interact with troops, and receive briefings from Field Marshal Richard Washington, who recently assumed command from General William Buckley, signaling a new phase in military leadership.

New Year’s Celebrations
In the traditional Albanese manner, New Year's celebrations cascaded across the Union, gradually unfolding as each of the nation’s three time zones ushered in the festivities. Beginning at UTC +1, cities like Ballymara marked the initial revelries, followed by major urban centers such as Gwentburgh and Galavant at UTC 0, and culminating in the grand metropolises of the Metropolis Coast, including New Haven, the Metropolis Bay, and the capital, New Gate, at UTC -1. While the Union of Albany boasted the distinction of being the first Arcadian nation to commence New Year's celebrations within its primary territories, it was not the pioneer in the broader sense; that honor belonged to the Republic of Sartoria's remote archipelagic state of Soltane, positioned at UTC +12, which claimed the title of the earliest inhabited region on Vesta to ring in the new year.

In the sprawling metropolis of the New Haven Federal District, the skyline ignited with bursts of fireworks, launched from barges stationed in the vast harbor and atop some of the towering structures dotting the cityscape. Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, approximately 300,000 citizens congregated in Broadpark Plaza, partaking in various festivities and eagerly awaiting the countdown displayed on large screens. As the cherished Spire of the Union descended slowly, its iconic ball marking the passage of time, the gathered throng erupted into cheers as it reached the base precisely at the stroke of midnight. Federal Governor Catherine Langley, amidst the crowd, led the rendition of "Auld Lang Syne," a time-honored New Year's tradition dating back to the early 20th century when the region was still under the dominion of the Cambrian Empire.

Meanwhile, in the capital city of New Haven, President Martha Prescott and Prime Minister Barbara Gordon, accompanied by their respective families and key government officials, convened for their own celebration. The New Gate Times Tower, the city’s loftiest edifice standing at twelve stories, shimmered with an elaborate LED display, projecting images spanning the nation's history onto its facades. At the stroke of midnight, jubilation swept through the capital as fireworks illuminated the bay area, punctuating the air with bursts of color and excitement. Despite earlier forecasts of cloud cover dampening the nocturnal festivities, the skies cleared just hours before, setting the stage for a spectacular and unforgettable spectacle.

Basilissa Gives Birth to Heiress
Her Imperial Majesty, Basilissa Serafina, spouse and consort of Basileus Leto IV Atronid of the Mydic Empire, has joyously welcomed the arrival of a healthy baby girl. The official name has been put out in a press statement by the Imperial Household as Alexandra Phoebe Irene Atronid. The inclusion of "Irene" pays tribute to the Basileus' late grandmother, Basilissa Irene, who tragically perished in the Hephatic Palace Fire of 2076. Basilissa Irene and Basileus Leto III, paternal grandparents to Basileus Leto IV, played a pivotal role in raising him and his siblings after the untimely demise of their parents in a 2062 car accident near the capital, Mydare. "Phoebe" honors Basilissa Serafina's own mother, while "Alexandra" serves as a feminine homage to the Basileus' middle brother, Alexandros.

Both mother and daughter are reported to be in excellent health, with a statement from the Palace spokesman confirming their favorable progress at the Princess Alice Hospital in Mydare. Family members, including the imperial siblings Crown Prince Alexandros and his partner, Prince Elio and his betrothed, were observed entering the hospital premises in the evening. The Basilissa's parents and her three sisters were also seen arriving around the same time. Celebrations reverberated across the Empire, with well-wishes streaming in from regional Governors, sovereigns, and the federal government, led by Archon Jaina Jessero. Official opposition leader Agamemnon Pegasos extended his blessings to the couple and their newborn daughter.

A forthcoming council session is scheduled to confirm the newborn as the Princess of Alexandria, thus designating her as the heiress apparent to the internal constituent realm of the Kingdom of Mydea. However, she will be excluded from the imperial succession and ineligible for consideration in a conclave until reaching the age of 20. Consequently, she will ascend to her father's throne at the kingdom level in Mydea but will yield precedence in the imperial succession to her two uncles. Crown Prince Alexandros will retain his title and assume the position of second in line to the Mydean throne, following his newborn niece while adopting the title of Prince of Kyros, the third in line title for the Kingdom.
