With the holidays coming, i would ask. What holidays do your people celebrate?

Octonovem wrote:With the holidays coming, i would ask. What holidays do your people celebrate?

This is gonna sound kind of bland, but in Franche Comte most people celebrate Christmas(with emphasis on family and giving rather than religion) , though Kwanzaa and Hannukah are popular amongst Afro-Comtois and Jewish minorities in the month of December... New Year's day of January 1st is also popular, as well as Ramadan for Muslims and Nowruz(along with equinoxes and solstices) for Zoroastrians...

+1 for Nowruz and Zoroastrianism.

As far as winter holidays, the main ones in Cannova are Christmas and the Intercalary Festival. Christmas in Cannova has more of a religious- and community-centred character. Home observances focus on eating and drinking. While small edible gifts and trinkets are often exchanged, gift-giving is not part of Christmas celebrations in Cannova. Instead, the main gift-giving holiday is Élív, the vernal equinox festival.

The traditional calendar in Cannova is lunisolar and adds an intercalary month every three years to keep the lunar calendar in sync with the seasons. This intercalary month falls during the winter, and the Intercalary Festival is celebrated on the full moon during that month.

The Broken Edgeans celebrate all manner of holidays. While there are some nation wide holidays like Bogat Uthal's birthday, most are not. The Government mandates that companies give paid leave for a certain amount of days each month, which allow people to celebrate holidays. December has the most amount of mandatory paid leave days, with five.

Hospe has a lot of holidays: Christmas is easily the most popular, celebrated by the religious and non religious alike, with holiday grants paid to all citizens over 21.
All religious holidays are observed, some of which mandate days off for people who observe them.
There's an Independence Day, which automatically gives everyone the day off. The King and Queen's birthdays are also celebrated as public holidays( you could win money by sharing the same birthday as the monarch or their consort)
Other holidays which Hospeans take way too seriously are: Various fishing and farming festivals, a national pet day, masquerade day( not as scary Halloween), traditional music festivals and black panther day.
They mostly just take any excuse to not go to work.

We celebrate christmas, but we celebrate the modern "consumerist" version.

We have our own religion so the religious aspect of the holiday is irrelevant to us.

The Peoples Place of Living wrote:Some good news in regards to Prudentia: the NS Moderator team deleted the raider's nation for violating site rules. As they were the only nation remaining in the region after kicking everyone out, this resulted in the region of Prudentia being deleted. The true government of the region then promptly re-created Prudentia, and has now begun the arduous task of re-building. I would urge any nations of Oatland that wish to help our allies to keep an eye on the newly re-founded Prudentia, and offer any needed support to Prudentia x and the other members of Prudentia's transitional government.

As someone who is still relatively new to the game, how would one support said region during these circumstances?

In Nagakawa, we have the following holidays:

- 31 January: Freedom Day, which commemorates the election of the first democratic government and the end of martial law
- 29 April - 5 May: Golden Week, wherein several different holidays are celebrated
- 5 May: Children’s Day
- 28 May: The Emperor’s birthday
- 12 July: Youth Day
- 10 October: National Sports Day
- 25 December: Christmas

There are also several festivals related to Shintō, which do not have fixed days but are nevertheless granted holiday status. Although 75% of Nagakawans identify as nonreligious or atheist, Shintō festivals are still widely celebrated (mostly for the food).

Might as well do a list for the realm's Holidays.

- January 1st: New Years
- Second Week in February: Family Week; Which is a week of Being with Families
- Variable Weekend that is between March 20 and April 23: Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday
- April 28th: Day Of Mourning; To honor workers who have died and/or have been seriously injured in the workforce
- May 9th: Victory Day (one of the days of Post war memorial)
- July 11th: Federal Unity Day/Day of Eagles (Founding of the Republic)*
- First Weekend in August: Civic Holiday Weekend (Cantonal Councils mostly use this as the Day to Celebrate the Canton's Birth.)
- October 23rd: Maoriai Day (For Maoriai Territorial Founding)
- November 11th: Remembrance day (The other day of Post war memorial)
- December 25th: Christmas Day
- December 26th: Boxing Day (Day after Christmas)
- December 31st: New Year's Eve

*Holiday note: Apparently people hated it when we remove the title "Day of Eagles", so we're keeping both titles. Calander makers can use either of the names for the holiday.

Other Religious Holidays are still remembered and are respected in the nation despite no official national religion set in stone.

They've been calming down for quite a while now. Although I do fear that a new round of meaningless ribbons will appear sooner or later....

All administrative actions are logged in the region's recent events log. In this singular instance, however, the nation in question was 'Fashtopia' or something to that effect. While the Management does not generally eject member nations exclusively for their political doctrine, exceptionally low-effort and meme countries are not and have never been allowed.

Hello Oatland friends!

Forest's sixth annual Photo Contest is beginning, and as has been the case in past years, submissions are open to anyone from our embassy regions. We'd love to see some submissions from y'all! :)

Forest Photo Contest 2020

.

.

.

2020 has undoubtedly been a year like no other. The general consensus is that it’s been crazy if not outright terrible. But with the holidays and the new year just around the corner, 2020 is finally coming to an end. Before we move on to a hopefully smoother 2021, though, there’s one last thing that needs to be done: the sixth annual Forest Photo Contest!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 We have four categories once again this year:

  • LinkTrees (this category is permanent each year)

  • LinkLight & Dark (photos that display astounding lights and/or shades)

  • LinkSeasons (photos that represent one of the seasons or a certain time of year)

  • Link2020 (any photo that resonates with or represents this crazy year)

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere. You may also submit photos via a link to an image hosting site in a telegram to Mount Seymour.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you, but can be taken at any time (not just during the contest).

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the Contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from December 18 at 00:00 GMT (7:00pm Dec 18 EST) to January 23rd at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on January 23rd at 23:59 GMT and end January 30th at 23:59 GMT.

🌲 Voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering!

🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB, on our World Factbook Entry, and potentially in our next foreign update. A banner will also be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest.

Now it's time to head out and start photographing! Good luck to everyone!

Any questions about the Contest should be directed to Mount Seymour.
