I don't think it's an honest mistake, I think it's an unnecessary nitpick and one that we should all be able to agree is the result of a read so narrow as to be bordering on pedantic. d.i requires officers avoid causing death or life-changing injury to another person except in cases where that's a split-second decision to protect the life of someone else. d.ii requires the officers provide any basic first aid necessary for their survival. I would hope that anyone would read those words and understand that, if someone is dead, there is no basic first aid necessary for their survival, because they are already dead.

Could the wording have been better? Perhaps. But I think it's more than fine as it is.
