Outrage as armed conflict in Baikala resumes, but motion to boycott Baikala not carried in Chamber

KASSYM – Public and political outrage emerged after news broke that armed conflict has resumed in Baikala between government troops and the so called Sand People, with the former dealing a severe blow to the latter in a military operation named Operation Sandstinger. According to Baikalan government sources, the government troops killed around 75 Sand People, and wounded and captured even more. The tags #SaveSandBois, which originated in Nuevo Helios, as well as its Ozyrnian version #IridzerRumovezek has now become popular on Ozyrnian social media as well, and a call for a boycott of Baikalan products seems to gain momentum.

A motion in the Chamber of the People, the Ozyrnian parliament, to issue an official boycott against Baikala was however not carried, to the utmost dissatisfaction of the Nature Party (OP) that presented it: apart from the 14 members of the Nature Party, only 16 of 25 members of the socialdemocrat SKP and 2 of 10 members of the libertarian DPP voted in favour. 36 votes were needed for a majority. According to OP leader Dunno Zenyrdy, the government can still call for a boycott on its own accord, but it would have had a stronger base if it had been supported by the Chamber.
