Region: Empire of Andrew

The Orson Empire

Sensors have detected that the Malians have begun taking far more detailed topographical scans of the Front lines as spies report that some MLRS Targeting computers have been brought into SITI's Government Projects Division under heavy guard. It seems they are planning to modify their targeting computers to also be fed topographical data so that they can determine based upon the position of enemy forces and the traits of the terrain relative to the trajectory of the rocket fire at what point the rockets would cross into line of sight of Orsonian defenses and be at risk of interception.

Given the Malians' large stockpile of Cluster rockets, likely they will use this data to set their fuses to deploy the sub-munitions early so that defense grids cannot effectively intercept them. While this is an alarming development as it means the immense power of MLRS cluster rockets can be brought to bear once again on modern battlefields which bodes ill for the already high casualty rates of the Orsonian Imperial Army, it isn't as dire as projections were from before modern defense grids were developed as previously a single MLRS battery could easily wipe out everybody in a square kilometer area in a single barrage -- now the early dispersal of sub-munitions increases the area the munitions are spread across significantly decreasing the damage inflicted but still the damage would be more significant than gun artillery could manage without defense grids.

If the Orsonians could themselves do this upgrade on their own Multiple Launch Rocket Systems before the Malians can complete their upgrade they would have a temporary massive advantage in artillery support over the Malians to help counter the two to one advantage in manpower the Malians have in the field.
