Welcome back to the land of the living. Hope it doesn't make you yearn for that sweet release once more :)

That's pretty neat, I just looked it up. Didn't know that existed. Are the history parts interesting?

There is a brief history on the formation of the Munitorium and delegation of planetary governor's as the crusades expanded the imperium.

So far the interesting parts have been the description of the inferiority of xenos (orks, tyranids, and eldar only), the layers of the supply chain from segmentum to squad, and the list of 47 most common crimes and punishments for mistreatment of equipment.

Due to the abundance of people and the scarcity of resources and manufacturing capability, and reliance on technology for which production methods have been forgotten, equipment is considered more valuable than men. Given the choice between saving a comrade or saving equipment, guardsmen are expected to save the equipment. Failure to salvage a fallen comrade's equipment is a flogging offense. Also, behind the guard are an army of Munitorium adepts who are to be treated as superior officers, no matter the rank of the guardsmen. Submitting improper forms, offending them, or treating them roughly would, depending on the severity, result in denial of requested items, flogging, being shot, or flogged and then shot.

Truly we have a merciful command structure and reasonable punishments in the Imperium

I would definitely enjoy reading about the inferiority of various xenos. I would also like a POV story from the xenos' perspective, where they talk about what the Imperium and how they view them. Are there any books or stories from a non-Imperium perspective?

Wow, I didn't realize all of that. So is the Imperium pre-Heresy better equipped than post-Heresy? Because, so far in the Horus Heresy series, the Imperial forces all seem more than adequately supplied. Or perhaps it is because I am getting everything from a mostly Space Marine perspective, rather than a Guard one?

Also, "flogged and then shot" is reminding me of some movie quote that I can't locate...something like "He will be hanged, then shot, then hanged again." Does that ring any bells with anyone?

I skimmed a section in the primer essentially saying do not pity the xeno, they are abominations not in the Emperor's sight and trespassers in the Galaxy that belongs to him... No one cares what they think. Although, I imagine there are stories from their perspective out there, but am not familiar with them. Writing in orkish cockeny can be amusing. A depiction of a hive mind's perspective would be peculiar.

From what I gather, the imperium was better equipped pre Heresy. At the same time, the Munitorium Manual mentions that the standard equipment and intended uses were developed centuries ago, and since they were good enough for heros and legends of the past, they are good enough for us.

New poll.

Have you read Dune?

Interesting, interesting...you're probably right, it would be too strange to read from the xenos perspective.

Your point about their equipment and intentions being established long ago leads nicely to:

Very nice synergy with our region there. I understand there is broad consensus that the original Dune series heavily influenced the 40k universe. And, having read it, I tend to agree.

Hehe Thanks. I'm fascinated in getting to Warhammer 40K, I like the lore and saw vids of it. I'm new in this fandom so any pointers about the lore will be great.

Welcome to the region!! Warhammer 40k Lore is very deep and broad, the best advice I have for you is to check out the Wiki (https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page) and browse along to see what looks interesting! There are alot of different factions and sub-factions in this universe and there is something for everybody! If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask anybody at all! Welcome to the fandom friend!

Yeah, the lore is what initially attracted me here as well. When I was younger, I played Warhammer Fantasy, but my cousin recently started playing 40k competitively, and I found myself getting pulled back in again.

I've been reading the Horus Heresy novels, put out by Games Workshop, and they've been pretty great for becoming more acquainted with the lore. I'm only on book 5, and there's something like 50, but I think reading the first book, Horus Rising, would be a great introduction into the universe. You get a lot of background and history, and it's written by one of their better authors.

Seems most folks start elsewhere, though, when jumping into 40k books. I've heard Gaunt's Ghosts and Eisenhorn are very good, focusing more on the small scale action than the more sprawling Horus Heresy series.

Myself, I always prefer:

The writers there have a great sense of humor, so the articles are much more interesting, at least to me. Though, word of warning, it's also much crasser and has lots of cursing. Lexicanum may have more info, but I like to supplement it with 1d4

I'm thinking of using dice for my nation and government

hello people

Wathkoh wrote:I'm thinking of using dice for my nation and government

Aleaocracy, interesting. The dice have spoken!

I recall considering a promotional video for a D&D club involving rolling a D20 to determine the outcome of daily activities. Ie: attempt to cross the street, get a low roll and get hit by a bus. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of the idea.

Yeah that's something that I really wanting to do. Plus I'm also planning to make some lore for my nation since I got plans for it. In a nutshell, its going to have many civil wars. I'm also treating it as a planet.

Naturally, having a planet would make sense in this setting. Beinirham is a planet, although it has sprawled to suggest a sphere of influence beyond that.

Following new legislation in Beinirham, forecasts predict rains of loose lead and mortar shells for the next six weeks.

At last, for a moment, there is almost enough Dakka!
Sweet Emperor, guide these missiles into the hearts of Your foes.

Sadly, the belief that there could ever be quite enough Dakka at any particular moment is illusory...

I stand humbled and will perform the necessary flagellation of penance.

If I do get like figures, can I make up some lore for my troops
