I built up my science and economy before worrying about the environment. Now I have a stunning environment with a frighteningly efficient economy.

Given enough time/effort you can push all your stats in any direction you want in this game.

I feel it. Got two papers due very soon and havent even started. I am kinda the architect of my own stress.

Terra dysonia wrote:I am ... the architect of my own stress.

Indeed. In our modern reality, dire challenges are scarce. Continuing to be alive is easier than it has ever been. Only after injecting meaning into life is it even possible to achieve that unique brand of stress.

Is it not absurd? Does one not sigh and smile at the hilarity of electing into deadlines and challenges the likes of which are considered bothersome and tedious—meaningless to/for oneself, but not without a goal, even?

In the middle of writing a paper for the express purpose of having it judged as part of a system of earning a certificate of education sought out solely for the ability to acquire work in a desired occupation, does one feel fulfilled?

I find relief in the idea of the fact that, especially in these matters, we have chosen from among the known options. Do you feel any differently after framing the circumstances as a willful choice? Had you already perceived it that way?

One can see all problems external, but sight is of the mind internal. It's not even that you've chosen to wait to write the papers; it's that you have assigned yourself the papers. How awesome does that feel? Am I alone here?

Black Box from Bomber KGH-3, Recovered from Pentastar Battle

"Five minutes to the target!" the pilot shouted to the crew. "Terran ships have opened fire!"

"Activating point defense turrets!" announced the gunner as he entered the command into his console behind the pilot. All of the turrets came to life and zipped to face forward. "Enemy missiles and projectiles coming into range!" The turrets opened fire, sending walls of shells out popping the Terran beehive shells and shredding guided missiles as they approached the bomber.

"Four minutes to target!"

A beehive shell got through the defenses and exploded near the right wing, putting holes in the covering and damaging an engine.

"Engine three is hit! Shutting it down!"

Another beehive shell got through, this time damaging a turret.

"Turret two is down!"

"Three minutes to the target!"

"Beginning the arming sequence!" shouted the bombardier as he input a series of codes into his console beside the pilot.

Sensors indicated an explosion on the left side of the bomber and shrapnel scraped against the bomber's carapace.

"Squad Lead is down! Port vertical thrusters are damaged!"

A beehive shell detonated under the left wing, damaging another engine.

"Engine two is out! Two minutes to target!"

Another beehive hit, taking out the belly turret.

"Turret four is down!"

"Bombs are armed!"

Another explosion on the right side of the bomber.

"Another bomber down! One minute to target"

"Opening bay doors!"

"Bombardier, you have control!"

"Targeting a main battery!" The bombardier announced. "Dropping!" The bombs launched in sequence out of the bomber bays, flying quickly to the target and detonating in a spectacular carpet strike. "Direct hit! Target destroyed! Transferring controls back!"

"Looping around! Gunner, target the enemy anti air with your turrets!"

"We're not returning to the carrier?" the gunner questioned.

"We need to help make sure the others do! Now fire!"

"Aye!" The gunner brought the remaining turrets to bear on the ship AA guns and missile launchers and opened fire, shredding the enemy weapons one by one.

About four enemy weapons were destroyed before KGH-3 was focused down and destroyed, the last bit of audio being a quarter second of the crew members screeching in pain.

I'm on my way to a US Navy air show at NAS Oceana, so I figured I'd leave this for people to enjoy.

ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG!

The Corectian Commission on Nuclear Weapons under Bureau of Nuclear Logistics, subservient to the Bureau of Defense, has raised the chance of a galactic nuclear exchange between New Hyperion member states and outside forces to Code Red, i.e. inevitable. Our models predict a nuclear exchange within 2 days of this announcement.

INTELLIGENCE REPORT:
Several monitoring stations have reported that nuclear buildup has reached the threshold for a nuclear exchange. This morning, the Commission on Nuclear Weapons office in Ruhr issued a warning to the state and is now issuing the same warning to Corcetian allies and members of New Hyperion. The Commission on Nuclear Weapons would like to stress the importance of nuclear preparedness and recommends that all New Hyperion member states and their respective governments take action against any nuclear threat and continue to protect their citizenry.
>>> page=news/2018/09/23/index.html

MEMORANDUM ON PAST NUCLEAR EXCHANGES:

On the 29th of Ice 3417 (29-AUG-2017 in human years) the second nuclear drill began and ran for 24 hours. Unlike last year, the forces of New Hyperion joined with Wintreath to create a formidable nuclear arms pact: the Nuclear Winter Alliance (NWA). Consisting of 110 nations, the alliance scored a total of 8,270 points and landed in 11th place. Other notable achievements include a total radiation count of only 5 (only The United Republics of Multonia was hit with 5 nuclear missiles), the defense against the far superior equipped Augistine Alliance, and the cooperation with the faction of UPPERCUT.

The first few hours of the event consisted mainly of armament and the establishment of shields. Within the next few hours, the larger factions began to consolidate power and begin to top the leaderboards. On the NWA front, things were relatively calm; no nation was attacked and the NWA began to crush smaller factions in the same vein of removing an ant hill; annoying but not an immediate threat.

Within the first 5-7 hours, the Nuclear Winter Alliance began to coordinate strikes on larger factions. It is worth pointing out that at this point, Anarcous began to round up fellow New Hyperions to hunt down communist nations. By the time Anarcous was resurrected, it became evident to other nations that puppets would be invaluable to the operations at hand.

The last few hours of the test is where things got excited. Around the 22 hour mark, the Augustine Alliance (AA) began to point around 3,000 nukes at the Nuclear Winter Alliance. While not given the command to fire, and thus wiping out our faction, AA began to only keep their nuclear arms aimed at us after they had been destroying other factions overnight to gain first place. Their initial plan, as what can be seen from their previous conquest, was to first intimidate the Nuclear Winter Alliance with overwhelming odds. AA's battle plan for taking over factions became formulaic:

  1. Place nuclear missiles within striking distance of a region

  2. This forces the region to either A) make shields to prepare for the attack or B) use up their nukes in the first wave

  3. After the initial nuking of a faction, AA made sure that their shield count was low

  4. Once a region had been relieved of their shields, the actual attack with more nuclear arms began, this would usually bring about the end of a faction within minutes thanks to AA's huge use of puppet states and excellent coordination

Seeing that that did not work, AA began to fire on us; however, to our benefit, and at this time, the faction of UPPERCUT, our ally, began a counter-offensive. If speculation is to be believed, their counter-offensive brought about our survival as it drew AA's focus from us and onto their attackers. It was at around this time where only 15 minutes remained in the test. Within this final time span, AA issued an order for all of their loose nuclear missiles to hit various targets within the Nuclear Winter Alliance. It was only three minutes later the order was rescinded and the nations of our faction spared nuclear annihilation.

ISSUES TO ADDRESS:

  • Some nations had no prior knowledge as how to fire nuclear missiles

  • Corcetia had to issue an announcement to the members of Nuclear Winter Alliance that, after aiming your nuclear arms, the command to fire had to be given

  • Coordination was lacking majorly; nations started to act in independent groups

  • Puppets weren't used at the beginning to consolidate nukes/shields

  • The Rules of Engagement (ROE) were only to attack when attacked - thus, the faction couldn't go loose and gain points quickly

LOOKING FORWARD:
There are a few things both New Hyperion and Wintreath can do to maintain a stronger faction for next year's test and perhaps ally the skills learned to this year's Z-Day in the coming months.

  • Improve communication

  • Obtain in-depth knowledge on how these events operate

  • Improve the ROE

  • Use communication software to enhance effectiveness (e.g. Discord)

  • If possible, bring more nations into our alliance

Individually, we are weak. When we come together, we are strong like a fasces.

Oh, why can't nuke day be on a weekend? Wednesday is the longest day of the week for me... I don't think I can participate. :(

Also, my RP post has been delayed because my computer decided to spaz out. Shouldn't take long though.

Nations that do not join a nuclear faction will not be targets. You'll miss out but will be spared the power of the atom.
As for myself, I will also be busy Wednesday.

True, it's an opt-in thing so I won't be turned to obsidian, but I'm still sad I won't be able to partake. The frenzy that happens in these events is so much fun, it's such a shame I have to miss out on it... Both of us won't be defending NH then, and maybe others will be busy too. Guess we'll see how well those who are available hold up!

I have to work on Wednesday, so I can't really participate either...

dammit, I'm bogged down Wednesday! Ah well, hope y'all have fun nukin'

Yeah, I don't know how much I'll be able to do this year...

Wintreath has an official and fairly active Discord now so at least that communication issue will be resolved.
