Aww, that's so sweet. love that lasts
And how is cindy and charlotte? I know polygamous marriages really aren't common in the west
Ah..
Fine, thank you
Shakes hands with Gryllus
(let's continue lol)
Good to hear that you're both doing fine Not that I cared either way
Gryllus, your opponent has been in the government ever since Agora first came into existence. So you're a bit of an outsider, the people want to know what you have planned, what is your vision and what can the people expect from you?
returns handshake and salutes
I believe it is a good thing to produce new blood in government. Outsiders often benefit their new homeland, after all. If you have the same person in office over and over again it becomes quite redundant and sometimes even regressive.
The people can expect subtle change, all for the betterment of the region, and an improved government and legislative body. As well as small social projects.
I'd like to see Agora grow organically and at a sustainable rate.
It has been my experience that the people who choose this region as a place to play would prefer that it not be a loud, chaotic echo-chamber for established ideologies, but rather a region of exuberant and continuously expanding quasi-utopian surrealism.
Sure we have a 'government', but that's merely an illusion we choose to share. We are a collection of fictitious nation/characters who often enjoy each others' comments and conversation.
My vision, the same one I share with my region-mates every day, is to have a safe place to call home on the internet. A place where my, admittedly idealistic, social and political beliefs can be put into practice in a small, simple experiment of human interaction. Amidst a much larger experiment, I remind you; NationStates is a rarity in this day and age, letting player-created content define the parameters of the role-play.
I may choose to express my values in a cartoonish way, but the under-lying values are real, complex and hard-learned.

The areios pagos is Greek in origin. Its purpose will be to create legislation, upon order of the citizens and approval by the government. I'm certain the people of Agora, although skeptical, can see the value in having such a legislative body as it will support their interests as a community
As 'Nemonicus' my interests lay in the security of the actual region, though, as 'Mole' I am free to participate in regional politics as I see fit. And so far I've seen fit to let the rest of you create any government system you wish, as long as it doesn't interfere with the aforementioned security and 'vision'.
We have a regional administration and a city government. And we have the collected nations of Agora who meet in the 'plaza' to express their feelings. An official congress, with its attached bureaucratic procedures and other rigamarole, seems redundant and clumsy, given the current population size.
If my region-mate wishes to do the work involved in maintaining yet another political committee, as so many other regions have and without much imagination, I can only wish him the best of luck. I can predict little interest in the idea from the other residents..
hmm, and Gryllus how do you counter?
I'd like to remind Lucius that we already have a lower legislative house: the Apella. Are you proposing a third house?
Well, my plans do not require massive amounts of manpower, as my adversary claims. The areios pagos only needs a few people, at most. This is not a whole institution, rather, something to replace the worn out and horrifically inactive state of government here.
No it will replace the apella because I haven't seen the apella do a single thing. However the areios pagos is a flexible system and can conform to multiple assemblies, if necessary
Smiles brightly
Quite the opposite. The fact that we rarely talk about our government, forget to hold elections, and openly mock the institutions without the region falling into anarchy is a testament to its efficiency. Our current government in so non-invasive, so un-obtrusive, that we frequently put it completely out of our minds as we go about our digital lives.
I'm very proud of that achievement; all of you should be - we did this together.

Gryllus, do you have a comment? if not we will move on to another topic to avoid running in circles
We have an 'Apella'? Cool.
See? I don't even know what's going on and I'm supposed to be in charge.
Now, that's an efficient system. It's been my experience that when something is working, don't fork with it.
