Gertbland Gazette #58 | Pirates Sail to Plunder Booty, Fear of Future Battles Mount
On Sunday, law enforcement was called when a multi-masted Bermuda-rigged ship’s crew was spotted harassing commercial vessels in an anchorage outside of New Gertbland City. When authorities investigated the goings-on, they were surprised to see that the crew of the rogue sailboat had outfitted it with several homemade muzzle-loaded cannons. The ship’s crew referred to themselves as the Pirates of Barracuda Bay and to their boat as the “Skull Island Schooner.” When threatened with action by the coast guard, the self-proclaimed pirates warned authorities of a fearsome fleet led by a Captain Sourbeard. After the pirates had forced a mariner from one of the anchored commercial vessels of the of the Skull Island Schooner with a dramatic walk off of a plank, they swiftly escaped from the coast guard. Gert Aundrieou, the hostage taken by the Barracuda Bay Pirates, recounts his story when imprisoned with 20 other hostages taken by the Barracuda Bay Pirates:
“Half of them were completely unintelligible. They only responded with ‘yargh’, ‘aye aye’, ‘and ‘argh.’ The only other time I heard them say a word was when they were ordered around by their first mate ‘Powder-eye Patty’ and their own Captain ‘Lieutenant Leersnake’ where the crew would call them skipper and cap’n, respectively. Their cannons were pretty impressive and made with actual iron and stuff, and they even fired a few cannonballs into some tanker that was anchored.”
Cartographers are unsure what the pirates mean when they hailed from Barracuda Bay or Skull Island, as there is no known bay, key, or inlet known as such in Gertbland. Admiral Broadside of the coast guard has vowed to hunt down the elusive Skull Island Schooner, and bring Lieutenant Leersnake to justice before Captain Sourbeard’s fleet arrives, if it ever does.
In other news, Snack Brands, the parent company of the household-brand Yumco, recently acquired the Greenstraw company to promote their environmentally-friendly initiatives and expand into the adult straw market. Economists say this acquisition is also a response to the major legal blows dealt to the Funzi-INC corporation in 
Gundun, a major competitor in the international straw market.

However, their record for dominating the straw industry for years was now under threat by its biggest competitor, Snack Brands and Yumco. After their recently acquiring of the Greenstraw corporation, well known for their highly reliable paper straws. Funzi-INC™'s global dominance was now under threat. Until a new product that would put all the soggy paper straws to shame, a straw that would put those annoying metal straws back into to bin, a straw that would replace the ever popular plastic straw.
The Biscuit Straw!™
Using a special (And secret) formular Funzi-INC™ was able to create a biscuit that wouldn't become soft in any drink, wouldn't snap in half upon subtle pressure, and was a yummy snack after your soda! The straw is also completely environmentally safe as well since... its a biscuit. The lead scientist responsible for the creation of the biscuit was asked for an interview:
"The idea itself wasn't the hard part, making the biscuit hard enough to not break in half from handling and transportation, and both water resistant and safe to eat was indeed tricky. Jim our test subject will be missed dearly. My lawyer advises i don't say anything else about him."
The CEO of Funzi-INC™ was reported to be dancing in his office following the release of the Biscuit Straw.

A study conducted by the Parents for an Improved Schooling System (PISS), an education advocacy group supported by the prolific Worried Moms and Dads (WMD) parental rights organization, has many school administrators and parents concerned over the drinking habits of students at all levels. According to the study, the 2023 school year experienced a 23% increase in the amount of drinks spilled during lunchtime since the last school year. Child psychology experts expect the spillage rate to grow steadily as political and social tensions around the world continue to affect students and their families. Since the release of the study, PISS and WMD have pushed for legislative action in improving counselor availability to curb the spillage rate. Margarine Daofan, a child psychologist that cooperated in the PISS study, shares her own findings and solutions:
“The evidence is very clear. When people are anxious or scared they get shaky, and when they get shaky they spill their drinks more. Although you could say there may be some worry for an exam a kid didn’t study for or they forgot their homework, we cannot let this pass by. Honestly, this issue cannot come to the forefront at a better time. For years spillage rates have increased. We aren’t crying over the milk, we’re crying about why the milk was spilled.”
Recently, the WMD requested for volunteers to monitor children spilling drinks in public and report their findings with monthly “spill reports” in hopes of recording child anxiety outside of the school cafeteria.
In other news, investigations into the whereabouts of the Skull Island Schooner have led to a task force of coast guard patrol vessels to look out for any suspicious sailboats. Interviews with Admiral Broadside have yet to prove any success.

A video footage starts playing with slightly distorted audio. Birds can be heard singing, leaves rustling. In middle of the video there stands five men, all of them wearing white Mih'kwéhs, a traditional scarf used by Creeyoans in everyday life, which works as a way for everyone to identify the family and tribe each of them belong. These men are not civilians. four of the men wear army uniforms and light combat equipments, showing their brand new assault rifles and machineguns to the viewers. Ziemelkrasti Readiness unit starts the largest recruitment program in years - "Askelewi must be taken seriously"
Yesterday evening, the president Longins Grube gave a formal permission for colonel lieutenant Egons Zvinelis to take hold of multiple disabled barracks and start the first recruitment season of Ziemelkrasti Readiness Unit. The recruitment ads all shout that SV-Z is looking for more than 3,000 individuals with fluency in Iskalotian, past military service with good grades, and athleticism. The Lieutenant Colonel announced that this is the answer to the threats sent by an Creeyo-nationalist, self-proclaimed ruler of Askelewi, Wipiyamahtaw. The president Grube was also asked an opinion on the possible escalation of the crisis: "What we have witnessed so far is very dangerous. the main goal of Creeyoans is to force our people out of their homes, which we simply can not allow. That is why, especially now, Askelewi must be taken seriously. They have received high-quality weaponry from Shanting and are clearly preparing for an escalation of the conflict. We have to deliver a strong message to Creeyo, which is why we have to strenghten the SV-Z positions in Cultural Border Zone."
Alongside the news that SV-Z is sending more units to CBZ, rumours have began spreading that Estian Defence Forces have made deals with Vostok, a Private Military Company from 
Novoroyska to help in efforts to stop the conflict from escalating. Whether or not these rumours are true, is unclear, as Estian Defence Forces and SV-Z have refrained from answering any questions regarding Vostok.
Amidst the increasing danger of escalation outside the borders, the presidential elections are coming closer, and many candidates have already given their opinion about the situation. Margareeta Kabin from Rohelinet said, quote: "It's very unfortunate to see the age-long conflict continuing, yet the simplest way to end the suffering of innocent is to just pull out. For some reason, the high command is not willing to do this, but instead throws more wood in the bonfire." Margus Sirel from Estiased Partei also accompanied with Kabin and wondered why Estland interferes in a subject that does not even touch Estians. Emil Tohni from Sinine Liike on the other hand, sees the increasing of SV-Z operators in the region as necessary, after "it was revealed that Askelewi is nothing but a mere puppet of Shanting, used as a hook for Shanting to strike in our side." Tohni added that this conflict will reveal whether or not INCOM is a hoax as he has been doubting for long time. Other candidates supporting the move to not step back include Matias Kõlmperä from Meie Tulevik, Andres Põder from Estiased Partei, and Sergei Suzkovic from Koalitio. Eerik Lahtuja from Uusi Alku was notably outraged of the deicision to keep troops in Cultural Border Zone and could not find any understanding for intentionally portraying Creeyoans and Shanting as an enemy.

it was very active in the city at the moment, a large part of the city in several districts had been chosen to be the area in which any tourist or new citizens would be able to come and see all of the wonders that Electrica and it's people had created, whether it was vendors preparing food, streets being decorated, or businesses getting ready to show off their goods to make a pretty penny off the visitors. Even then the city could also go about it's business without too much disruption, small ships on the canal brought in goods and people, transportation but private and public went along smoothly, the magnum opus of Electrica had fully come to life.

A young man was standing on a walkway he looked to be in his early 20's with fair skin, red hair, and emerald green eyes, both of which were watching the preparations in the distance. Workers set up some of the advertisements for a "Digital Reality Center", people setting up very techy decorations to line the streets in neon light, and a parades worth of food stalls and trucks dotted the streets and corners and was cooking up a storm. This was going to be the celebration of a lifetime, well, it was second best considering what's coming in the summer.

He turns around to see his best friends approaching, Andreas and Jericho. Andreas was similar in age to him, however he had a much darker skin tone with yellow dyed hair and yellow eyes, one which was actually a cybernetic eye, meanwhile Jericho had a much more coppery skin tone with turquoise dyed hair and blue eyes. One thing they did share besides their age was a silver colored wristband, that had blue accented colors making a circuit-like design on the wrist, with a orange falcon holding a ring, inside the ring each had a U inside of them.
Andreas: "What you doing out here alone? We only got like, half a hour before we gotta get back to the Donut.
Calvin: "I was just here watching the city is all. Jericho chuckles.
Jericho: "Hmmph, since when was you one to do solitary sightseeing?" Calvin scoffs at this but smiles and gets off the railing.
Calvin: "Solitary? Brother I'm out in the open in public, how is this solitary?"
Andreas: "Cause your not with us!" He says throwing an arm around Calvin and Jericho and pulls them in with a laugh. "But seriously tho we need to get back, the others want us so we can set up our booth for the Celebration."
And with that he guides them, heading for a tram station that would take them to the Donut of Knowledge.

News update. War nearly broke out, but was prevented by Reculand absence of weapon restrictions.
a recent Fuz protest in Stundezznia turned deadly when 1,700 Fuz protesters stormed a relatively small military base on the Stundezznia, Reculand border. the riot happened on a Stundezznia national holiday. this ment that the base was relatively unguarded. the rioters took the weapons in the base and marched out to Reculand. the Reculand military was notified, but was unable to do anything, because the military was deep inside Stundezznia to help prevent a civil war. luckily, due to Reculand absence of weapon restrictions, the protesters were met with civilians driving tanks, anti artillery weapons, machine guns, and flying private fighter jets. The Recus Fired on the Fuz protesters. In the battle, 1,283 fuz were killed, 381 captured and 36 escaped. only 3 Recus died with 7 others injured.
The battle caused many fingers to be pointed at different entities. for example, a Stundezznia celebrity blamed 
Grenopia, while failing to show any reasoning. a civil war is evidently becoming more of a possibility.

After a few days of back-and-forth dialogues between UKMCK and Novoroyska, a meeting place was finally decided: Anston, Gundun with the Gundanion officials inviting both visiting Heads of State to mediate in the Capitol Building. Nonetheless, it was decided as Andriy braced himself to meet with Mashiro.
An Isminoff I-96-300ST would be seen approaching Anston International Airport with all its grandeur of Novoroyskan imagery on its fuselage as it approached the runway.
The airport is surprisingly empty considering it's an international airport and within the capital city no less. As the plane began descending toward the runway, three S-33 fighter jets flew past it in a V formation with blue, white, and red smoke trailing behind them, the tricolor patterns of the Novoroyskan flag as the three fighter jets are then seen doing some fancy maneuvers before the smoke trails disappeared as they flew off into the horizon, probably to whatever carrier they took off from.
The I-96 touched down on the tarmac before it began slowing down before taxiing off the runway towards whatever Ceremony the Gundanions had planned. The plane took a few minutes to taxi towards the red carpet ceremony. After another minute of getting boarding stairs in place, the door of the plane opened up as none other than Mr. Andriy Vasilyevich emerged from it with two menacing soldiers in full gear following closely behind him and descending the stairs waving at the many onlookers and journalists, before stepping on the red carpet with Gundanion honor guards standing next to both edges of the carpet. ~Does the President and his cabinet have any plans for how Aurorheim might assist Kilameh?
While we haven't formally decided on anything yet, I can tell you that Humanitarian, Monetary, and Military assistance is very much on the table to add to that, we are considering deploying Republican Marines from the Navy into Kilameh to assist Anterian and Kilameh forces.
~Just how far is the President willing to take Aurorheim in assisting Kilameh?
While our goal is to assist Kilameh, we will not support nor condone any aggressive attacks against Afzhizstan nor do will we support any forceful conquest of lands, let's make it clear, we're defending liberty, not promoting a war.
~Will Aurorheim and NCSO attempt to limit Afzhizstan's economic capabilities by perhaps freezing its overseas assets or imposing sanctions?
For the time being, Aurorheim is yet to start a dialogue with other NCSO nations but, that is very much on the table as well. However, until we've talked it over with our allies, we will take no such actions for now.
~Will Aurorheim attempt to perhaps negotiate with say the Intercontinental Commonwealth in opposing the Afzhiz regime and support Kilameh?
No, that has not been considered and I'm doubtful it will be despite the rather warm relations between a few of the INCOM and NCSO states.

Mashiro puts on her seatbelt after returning from the washroom. She leaned on the window to get a better look at the pancake-looking cloud, then turned to the city below as the plane approached the runway.

Then one of them turned toward the skies, smiled with her eyes closed, and tipped her hat at the heavens, as if she was thanking something in particular.
